We have hundred and thousands and some ten thousands of dollars invested in dogs and equipment. Yet we look for the cheapest feeds we can get by with. I know. Im guilty to. LoL

A lot of us are guilty of this, but also it comes down to the convenience of where you buy it that determines what feed we give our hounds.

I fed red flannel for a few years. I thought it was pretty decent feed. The price was why I stopped. $32 for 50lbs was a little much I thought.

Most knowingly feed the cheapest they can and then try and rationalize why it is a great feed. Getting called on it is offensive and they get even more stubborn with slinging cheap feed in the pen. Little backwards but coonhunters are that way. Many feed cheap because they have too many to feed. Instead of slimming down the yard and feeding better, they rationalize feeding cheaper. lol It is a viscous cycle. They will tell you exactly what you need to do with your dog to make it tree harder, to break it from trash, what wormer to use, and what the best bloodline is......tell them they feed crap and watch out! Red flannel sucks.

I have fed just about Every feed available from the cheapest to some of the most expensive .......You can tell a dif in the quality from one to the other.
I was a little skeptical on the Diamond EA, but after a month or so I could tell a Huge difference in how my hounds looked, one of my Cur dogs was kind of hard to keep weight on, but after a month of EA that solved that problem, he actually got too fat, had to cut back.

Evaluating a feed or the performance of a dog is always in the eye of the beholder. If someone only knows what a Ford Pinto can do, that becomes their measuring stick. If they don't know what their dog is capable of, they will never know what to look for or the road to take to get him there. They will just jump up and down claiming that the Pinto gets them from point A to point B just fine. Yeah, ok.

Over the years I fed about all there is to offer in my area. Victor, loyall, purina, everything diamond has to offer, pro pet, Iams. What I discovered is there are a few high priced feeds that are actually worth the $1 per pound they charge But most people get caught up on hype and advertisement and convince themselves that if they are Payin $40 for 40 lbs they must be feeding a much better feed.. In reality some of the high priced feeds are living on their name and product they used to produce, not the product they put in the bag today

There is some truth to this. Most can find what they are looking for though, if they know what they are looking for.

$30+ here.. I wouldn't feed it to my hound. Not enough protein & fat... Too costly, poor quality ingredients.. Jmo...

I switched to Diamond Extreme Athlete and Diamond Naturals Chicken & Rice, the dogs did Great on both.
I thought I would try this Red Flannel Hi-Protein, I am on the 5th bag and it takes more to feed, more clean up, and dogs don't look as good.
It's back to Purina or Diamond Naturals for my dogs.

Feed what you can afford and be happy with your decision .....!!!

Very few coondogs get hunted hard enough to ever see a need for real high quality feed. Mine stay slick and fat on plain old purina dog chow and they live long healthy lives.

If you hunt hard a dog will get way too thin on grain free, they have to have carbs in there diet. It's ok for the dogs that only hunt once or twice a week. I feed a 30/20 with rice for my hard hunters. Plus you guys have to stop changing dog food for the seasons. It takes months for the dog to adapt. If you have them on a 30/20 in the winter keep them on it in the summer just cut back on the amount of food you give them. It WILL NOT BURN them up in the summer if your feeding a good food. It has nothing to do with how much protein or fat it's what makes up the dog food.

You need to check out chewy.com. Right now with your $7.00 rebate check if your order 4 bags to get free shipping you can get it less than $26 + some cents. Their normal price per bag is $38.99 and they just cut their price to 32 or 33.99. This price wont last long but the $38.99 is their norm.. Plus the free shipping to your door is great. You have to message them and provide check info for the Purina checks and they will provide an address to mail them in.
