I am not new to the forum or to computers, but I guess I am also PC challenged!

I ALWAYS try search first, but often do NOT find the answer to my question (even though I am SURE the answer IS in here somewhere!)

The problem is, I do not know how the computer thinks, or how it uses the algorithm.

I have had several judges comment the past few months on how I am setting my dogs' feet on the bench.

So I did searches using several keywords to try and find out how people properly set their feet.

Here is typical lists I got finding out how to stand a dog on the bench: (out of 107 threads listed, 1 in 10 actually was about bench showing)

1) Do you have to have out of state license for comp hunt?
2)Reviews on cordless lights
3) Tracker light collar problems
4) Brad and Ron's daily devotions
5) Trouble with returning casts
6) Here a possum there a possum
7) The most unusual place to tree
8) father daughter cross
9) close coon encounters
10- Bench show help
11) Aggravating coons too much?
12) Trapping beaver
13) Bobcats
14) Another hunt test question
15) Concrete in kennels
16) 220 conibear/minnesota
17) 8 minute rule
18) How to keep your dogs home
19) most "Famous" person you've ever met
20 - bench show question
21) Need advice on training come command
22) scoring two trees as one
23) lay up dogs
24) matching deersheds
25)Direct from Iraq
26 - benching a dog
27) Thing to do at WallyMart when you are bored
28) kennel silencers
29) Acceptable colors for UKC great dane regs
then finally, on page 5 of the list, two threads that kind of came close to answering my questions!
30) correcting leaning on the bench
31)Show people, I need your help getting a young dog back on his toes

This is a typical search response list (and I had to read through MANY posts to find something close to what I wanted)

I agree that very specific topics like "Ivomec" are EASY to search for and the list of replies is mostly ABOUT Ivomec. But for showing and hunting questions, it could be hours of reading hundreds of threads to get what you need.

So while I agree, we should search first, realise that some of us do not have the time to read through 100 unrelated posts, or topic titles that SOUND promising but do not answer the question.

We are NOT posting the 'same old' question to irritate anybody! People DO reply to my questions, so I have to assume that some folks are happy to stop and reply and others are free to skip over 'the same old same old.'

Wildhounds,

I'm sure your experience is similar to many others on this board...you have to read the fine print...

Basic query: separate your search terms with spaces.

Advanced query: Join words with AND, OR and NOT to control your search in more detail.
Add asterisks (*) to use wild cards in your search (*bullet* matches vBulletin etc.)

This is the fine print. This message board is fully indexed, meaning that it will find a match for every word you type that is at least four letters long.... So, if you type "how to stand a dog on a bench" the results will be many and not very relevant.

If, however, you searched for how and to and stand and a and dog and on and a and bench"...the engine will ONLY search for that string of words.

You have to understand how the search engine works, it's not as robust as Google, but instead simply looks for words and provides you with a lst of all of the topics that have those words contained in them.....

Using the search bar is fine but asking a question that has been covered before sometimes will get an answer that has not been given before that might really help. I like to see a little fresh input every now and then, new methods and remedys come along every day.History and Archives is great reading but if you don,t keep up with the latest techniques and formulas your not gonna make any progress JMO.

I know this is old but still relevant. A help also would be to either make 'folders' for repeat questions: dog food, bench ?, what if ?, etc. could make it easier to find. or even make those topics sticky. maybe the layout/setup needs a revamping. I think Ive been a member since 2003 and the look has not changed...maybe its time for a makeover!?!?!
