A Coolie is the same as a Draw , holler , cut , ditch , ravine , .... All these you can throw a rock across , EXCEPT the Holler. The Holler is to wide to chunck rocks across. Canyons on the other hand , your just screwed. You can't cross them or throw rocks across... You'll need a mule for Canyons !

I generally hear the term ''Coolie'' from out west deer hunting.

Cricks and creeks are the same thing to me. Its a branch that you can wade or jump across.

Rivers and slews on the other hand require more technique to get around. Generally rivers require driving around and slews require a long walk , or a tree fell across it to cross on. Thats when you slip and fall in , and its always over your hip boots..

Hope that cleared up some coonhunting terminology...

I asked Bruce Conkey about the dc40 when I bought my garmin from him a couple weeks ago. He said he's heard all the rumors, but he heard the same rumor about the dc30 for over a year before they came out and then when they did, the dealers still couldn't get their hands on them for another few months.

As far as cricks and creeks and sloughs. We have all creeks here, just different sizes. A little creek is one you can step across. a big creek you can wade across about knee deep. A freakin big creek: you better find a log jamb to cross on!!

Randy I am in Memphis as I write. Watching the news (not really) but while im sippin on a nite sleeper because im in the middle of the city and watching tv I noticed the news talking about how a smaller boy lost his life in a ravine. Although I hated to hear about the loss of a life the name (ravine) hit me like. I couldnt believe a news caster in the south mentioned ravine(was really shocked). THATS the difference in the country and the city. FYI in the shouth any hollar is called a hollar. Ravine is nothing more than a statement made by a yankee Across the Mason Dixion line...

Lee , have you ever noticed when you ask people in the south what their hunting they say;

Last night I ''carried'' Sally and Bill...

People in the north say;

Last night I ''hunted'' Sally and Bill..

What do you call a female dog? Bitch , Gyp , ...More people now days just call them ''females'' lol

What do you call a Potato or Tomato ? Tater , spud , Tamater , maters.

How did we get so far off topic? lol

I'm a field tester for Garmin and I've been using a test prototype of the DC40 for the last 6 weeks in testing. The DC40 should hit the market sometime this summer. It has many new features that I believe will improve your outdoor experiance. New features are,

An integrated camera with zoom features that will allow you to see treed game before walking into a tree. The camera also allows you a view from the dogs perspective.

A scent indicator that allows you to know ahead of time what your dog is running. The screen will flash '' Opossum'' ''deer'' etc etc.

The new DC 40 will also have a built in shocking system that will allow correction of unwanted behavior. For example , when your screen flashes '' Opossum'' , you simply apply the tone button and if that doesn't solve the problem , you can then apply a shock at various levels of stimulation until the negative behavior ends.

I hope this answers some of the questions you have about the new DC 40. Thank you.

The dc 44 mag will soon replace that however. Due to the molecular structure of the battery it will have a permanant battery. This will interface with auto gps and it will send a text to your dog that a car is coming

first thing i did was cut the length of collar off .. 2 inches past the gps antenna and attached day glo with chicago rivets.leave the buckle side alone.just put day glo from the gps antenna,the peice with the holes that goes in the buckle. garmin said if i did not cut anything on the wire side of the gps antenna it would not void my warranty.and it did not,they replaced one and i cut it off and put day glo on it soon as i knew the new collar worked right after they sent it.. i knew 30 yrs ago them cloth nylon collars dont get it in the winter time. you can buy 1- 25 inch d ring collar and get enough when cut in half for 2 garmin mods. i went ahead and made one orange and one black and entered it the same way on the hand held. so it says orange or black. i like to know which dog has on which collar from the git go.

I'm soo confused. I thought a coolie was the little guy that pulled a rickshaw.... A hollar is "U" shaped and a ravine is "V" shaped. I know. Two nights ago I got into old strip mine spoils and they were ravines...."V" shaped horrible things that made the young guy hunting with me huff and puff like an old steam engine.

Randy, I was on a fire in Idaho a few years back. My assistant Crew Boss was on the radio saying something about the 'hollar' Those western boys didn't have a clue as to what she was talking about.

garmin DC40

I'll be posting an Update on this website this week about the DC40 collar update and the information I have from some sources who work at garmin.

www.GarminAstroDog.com

The (Unofficial) word from Garmin has an official release schedule, and will be changing the suggested price.

Although as we all know, Garmin really was behind the eight ball on the DC30 collars, Things could push out and slip some. But I'll post their Plan shortly.

Expect official statements and information soon.. Very soon..
