Ole Blue

Hey Vaught... You started this crap a long time ago with your blood line encyclopedia junk. Answer this question for me... Just because a dog shows a Hammer bred hound 5 generations back is it Hammer bred because of that? Really that is what you have been driving at all along isn't it? I am just going by your favorite statement in saying "Give credit where credit is due." Also if I don't tell you a dog has Hammer way back there then am I denying the fact? And by the way my stuff is Utchman in every pen I got.

I won't presume to speak for John, but I think he is a little bit of a kidder. I used to get kind of vexed at him once in a while, but after we communicated a little bit via e-mail, I like him, even if he does talk about those Hammer dogs a lot.

We all like to talk about what we like.

Bluebuster, I have a son and daughter of Albert and a granddaughter of Broadaxe Max tied up outside right now, so I like Uchtman dogs too.

My preferred line, the Ranger blood, does have a shot of Hammer III several generations back...not sure how much influence it is having these days.

John Vaught...

Hey Vaught... Take it easy old timer. I was just more or less pulling your chain to see how fired up you can get... It worked. Ha. Next time I go through Berea you can show me your hounds.

hammer dogs

I have up close Hammer blood. I like the way the dogs hunt, run and tree. It is my preference in blue dogs.

John, I dont doubt that Arkie has a shot of Hammer blood way back there, but I have never researched it. Where exactly does my Arkie dog have Hammer blood coming in? Would it be through Mash?

Mash was a great-grandson of Hammer III if I am not mistaken, Kelly.

In 1972, I think it was, Gary took his old Flash female, out of Smoky River Rambler, and bred her to Hammer III. This cross produced Gr. Nt. Ch. Southern Blue Hammer.

He bred Southern Blue Hammer back to old Flash, his mother, and got Flash II, his all time favorite female.

Flash II was mated with Ranger III to produce Ranger IV and Platner's Blue Mash.

You are right that Warren's dogs are doing very well. As you know Jeff bought Nt. Ch. Will's creek Diamond Dandy off of Murphy. And I can tell you that he is one heck of a coon dog. I am impressed with this hound. We have hunted him a dozen or so times since we got him and he hasn't "lied" to us yet. Jeff is waiting till the leaves are off to put him in hunts, he is that confident in him. Right now , before all this rain lol, the weather was just too hot on him (Jeff that is). We bought a 5 month male pup off of Jeff's male at A.O., we got him for a friends son, he is 14, and we plan on training this pup with his daddy. The 14 yr old boy went hunting with us a few times and is hooked. So we are helping him out by getting him his first dog. He was very excited when we took him the pup Sunday when we got home, he was grinning from ear to ear! I know that the Hammer line is not the only blue dogs that are making it in the hunts, I just like the one I have.
