Alot of the problem with pups starting out great and then hitting a plateau, becoming "burnt out" and so on is that they were culls to begin with and someone just couldn't see it. Perhaps they were born with an abundance of tree power and looked good when they were puppies, playing puppy games, hunting puppy spots and being handled like puppies around easy coons.
They done so good their owners were sure they could take the next step. But at some point the lack of tracking ability, the facebarking/illness, the junkiness, the jealous independence, etc. all started showing itself.
Its easier to say they burnt out than to admit they were culls from the beginning.
