HTX

Ive not hunted in any yet but i think it is agreat step forward , i think breeders should utilize this , to its full potential, Pup buyers can at least have some kind of knowlegde of the parents ability to at least be a capable hound , the particulars will have to be up to honesty, or hunt with them to find out.
Great Tool i hope it continues!!
P.S. I just bought a pup 2 weeks ago Sire was HTX2 and Dam was HTX 1.

How can you get your club to host these hunts? I just got voted in as the Secertary of Mid-State CHA of Kesslers Cross Lanes WV. I would like to address these hunts at one of our upcomming club meetings.. Any info would be appreciated... Thanks, JR

Cartwright,

The way I got our club to host these was a 3 step process. 1st I printed off all the forms and info from UKC's website on the hunt tests and provided it to the club members. 2nd Proposed to do 3 on a trial basis to see if they were worth doing. And 3rd I promoted it by word of mouth at the other local clubs to make sure they were successfull.

Todd, when are you guys having some more. I need to get Hank up there and have my niece get him finished. Just seems that I always have something else planned when you guys hold them.

These hunts sounds like they are alot of fun. I am going to talk to club president about them. The last 4 nights I have took my female out if she was hunting these hunts 2 she would passed with ease. 2 she would failed terrible. I like how they show even a top hound is goin to be off some nights.

I have one of those what if questions.. I don't think this will happen but what if you had 25 dogs show up for this hunt. How would justify getting them all enter in the test?

I just saw the Hunt Test page in Bloodlines. I think it is very well done. Thank you UKC for giving us hunt testers a spotlight to do a little bragging.

It's a legitimate question Cartwright but it has yet to be an issue. The more people you have there to run, the more people you have that can also guide and serve as inspectors. Because the actual hunt test is less confrontational than serving as a non-hunting judge of a cast, finding people to serve as inspectors is not an issue with a group of any size. Your group will need to be made up of about 1/3 of people that can guide and you are set.

The number of entries has not been an issue yet and I'll be surprised if it ever is no matter how many dogs you draw.

I entered one htx a couple months back. Got to see a hound work a track and take two tree minuses in the moonlight for 50 minutes. Sent mine the second hour where he went through a section with out a bark and the second dump the garmin showed him to have went 3/4 and made a circle back to us as time expired. You will have a better time if coon are moving.

I've been to 4 of them now & wonder why this didn't start years ago. I've seen good coondogs not pass & then turn around & pass with ease the next time.
Much more relaxed atmosphere, & everyone is hoping everyone passes. Haven't heard any bickering or arguing at any of them.
As far as breeding to a dog if looking for a stud dog I would breed to a HTX dog over a NT CH dog. They've proven they can do it alone. JMO.

i have hunt tested two of my dogs. the 1st one passed 3 out of 4 and the other 3 for 3. the 1st dog is the best dog i have ever owned and i sure wondered about it. he is a check in dog if he doesn't find a coon and it cost him some faults. i believe this is a great thing ukc has provided, especially for people who are disabled or elderly that don't nite hunt anymore. it gives everyone a part to do with ukc. i wish it was a manditory thing to pass before entering a dog in the nite hunts. i believe it would help all breeds in the culling department.

I belong to the Mercer Co Coon Hunters Assn in Pa. I have judged some dogs in the tests and it is not easy for a hound to pass. This does show what a legit coon hound is and not a fake or lucky winner. We need to continue with these tests and improve it.

I love these hunts!!! My dog is really tight mouthed and I always end up with the last strike in an open reg. class so I have not gotten any other titles on him. I have hunted my dog in four hunts and my last one I got him HTXed!!!! My first hunt was two den trees, next two hunts I passed with flying colors cause I treed two coon in both hunts and my last hunt I only treed one coon but any way I passed!!! Our club has really loved them. There are two dogs that have passed including mine and one dog would have passed in only three hunts but he messed up and had the same judge twice!!! We have averaged 6 - 8 dogs a hunt and we just all break up into pairs and go hunting!!!

But does and one know what H T X stands for??? Hunt Test X-pert?????

Rummor was they started these hunts cause there were two many dogs making it to the world qualifying hunts and couldn't go to the last round cause when they'd take the dogs out they couldn't treed a coon by them selves!!! LOL!!!
