The blues are getting there with walkers as for as speed but still lacking in some areas. I own blues now and their Rattler or Bullet bred they just seem to have the speed i'm looking for in comp hunts.

LOL and people ask me where I get my attitude from..I have hunted with so many different bluetics it's unreal. Heck I hunt walker and english dogs and have pleasure hunted with more bluetics and every time I seen one unleashed I held my breath.. Love drawing them blues in a nite hunt though. Been beaten by 3 and all they did was cover every dog that had a coon.
I have pleasure hunted with many but out of that many 1 was very good. Several of the others could tree coon one night and then the next look pathetic. It's all about consistenty.

Good luck in youre search, hope you find a good one.

Yeah you've hunted with so many... A total of three..... LOL LOL..

You've hunted with three different blueticks and all three of them beat your ass and it was not by covering other dogs. You and Loyd are a couple of idiots.

if someone thinks there arent any good blue dogs out there, they either dont get out enough, or are intentionally blind...I would say the percentage of dogs from every breed that make it are pretty close, it is simply easier to find a good walker because there are so many of them out there...

Yes Levi , youre right I got smoked everytime I have drawn a bluetic. So bad that all I can do is get on here and bad mouth them. I wish I could count how many hunts I have been to over the past 5 years and out of the hundreds I have been beat by a bluetic 3 times, a redbone once, never a black and tan,and an english dog to many times to remember and a plott once.

I have never been beaten by anything in pkc except for a walker 98% of the time and english the other 2% of the time.

I don't know what part of I have hunted with several bluetics pleasure hunting is so hard to understand. I have hunted with over 30 and out of those 30 1 was good. Im not bashing the breed just telling it like it is.3 of my friends have now switched from blues to walkers after hunting the nite hunts and with me. Like I said there are some good ones out there but rareley any for sale without paying 5,000 for it. I don't need to prove a thing to you or any of you blueticers. Ill stick with my walker dogs and we will see who is laughing at the end of the night plain and simple.

What do I like about blueticks? Well, lets see........... better nose. better voice, better disposition, honest tree dog, a lot less trash than those nasty spotted dogs, etc. How they hunt varies from strain to strain. I got one that hunts close and one that if he's gone 45 minutes you better start driving cause he's treed and you can't hear him, and he's got a big mouth. I took a hunt with my sons grand night walker female this fall, she ran a deer, mine treed a coon. Guess my old blue dog ain't too impressed with all them trophies or maybe he can't read.

Sorry treberta, I couldn't care less about night hunts. I score with a rifle and I've shot better dogs than most of those ugly spotted dogs I've hunted with. I avoid comp dogs like plague.

Treberta, think what you want, but you want to go off numbers? Blueticks won the Battle of the Breeds this year, High Scoring dog Friday night, Larry Hamlins Bluetick Jugg - 850+, and High Scoring dog Saturday night was Steve Idlemans Bluetick - 1050+....merry christmas

Good comeback Matt Let me know when one wins the world hunt in UKC. Where it's impossible to write up outragous scores and the dog can't be a one cast wonder but a consistent winner.

Man trebarta I am suprised there is a coon left alive in Ohio with the dogs you must hunt. Can you tell us the names of your dogs? Are they at stud or big PKC money winners? I just want to know so that if I am looking for something to breed to or get a pup out of you can help narrow the search as they are obviously the best. From the sound of it I am suprised you have a job you can probably just coon hunt between hide money and hunt wins.

You must be one heck of a dog trainer. Kudos to you.

Briar, when did this Battle of the Breeds turn against me?

Did I ever say one time my dogs were the best? I think not. Man I love it when people assume things. Hope you all have a merry Christmas. Remember there are things much more important then coon hunting. Life is to short to get all worked up Obviously I have my oppinion on the best breed and you have yours.

You know, I believe we are actually in the same boat, so to speak, lol...I have hunted with 3 walkers (enough to be able to honestly judge them) that I consider sho'nuff coon dogs, and I would feed any one of them...

Nobody must like a good coon dog in my area in WI. 20 years
ago around here most of the dogs in the hunts were Walkers,
not to many of us hunted Blueticks. Now there are only a few
Walkers and Blueticks are the most popular for some reason,
wonder what It could be. Redbones are even winning more than
Walkers. I have hunted with several nice Walkers just like all
the breeds. One thing I know for sure I prefer to draw Walkers in
my cast as I've had alot higher winning percentage hunting my
blueticks against them than when I draw a cast full of Blueticks.
Matter of fact the last first place I put on a dog (last cast I was in)
I drew all Walkers and he was treed by himself with a coon while the Walkers
were boo-tickin around when they finally got treed it was empty!
At a two nite Walker sectional a few years ago only one cast
each nite was won by Walkers, they quite having Walker
sectionals after that.

blueticks the good an bad

the sad part is if yall would have read my post closer you would have seen it was a joke an a old one at that. i really dont care if the dog is purple an has yellow spots or is part rat terrier if it can tree a coon thats all that matters an your the one that has to feed it an as for you danny glista maybe you should take some blood pressure pills before you have the big one its sad that people take a breed of dogs so serous that they cant see the part that not every dog is prefect.

I am by far no expert on the subject, nor will I talk like I am one. Personally I really like the blue's. In winter they seem to find the track, and don't just run. I won't say there are better breeds out there, just better hounds. As they say with the Champion steer at the Denver stock show "He was the best on that day, and in that judges opinion." My advice is to try one. I feel that the breed is aesthetically pleasing, has the look of a hound, traditionally have a good loud long bawl voice, and above all seem to love their owner, and want to hunt for you.

One of the best dogs I ever hunted with was a bluetick but as a whole I dont like the breed. They dont have that stay put tree in them from what i've seen. I like walkers, they all have some really strong points that the other breeds dont have, and thats why I like to crossbreed, but thats a whole different subject.

truth is..............its all up to you on what kind color or breed of dog you get. you have to be the one that picks the breed of dog you like best the one that catches your eye. i think this was just one of those asked questions to see what kinda of responses you was gonna get. the blue breeders are going to tell you good things about them and the walker breeders and other breed hunters gonna tell you all negative things about them. i figure you knew that before you ever hit the enter key. you asked about bluedogs the breeders of bluedogs are looking at selling you a pup. some are just haveing fun and makeing them squirm.

my question is..............what is wrong with alot of folks here? they have no sense of humor at all. if they cant tell when someone is ribbing them or jokeing BS ing which ever you call it. then how in the world do they know what a coondog is?

About blueticks

I have had blueticks for 30 years, and I love them. I have been training dogs full time for 10 years. I have trained walkers and english dogs for other people and I have had some real nice dogs of other breeds. I like looking at the total package when it comes to buying a dog other than its color. how the dog acts in the woods, how they act at home, they may tree a coon tonight, but will I be hunting with that same dog tomorrow night, will that dog mind me when I call it. What ive seen out of the hudred or so dogs that have cam thru here is that most walkers are to hard headed, they are not the quietest dogs at the house, they tend to run the chain from daylight to dark, they are flashy but not steady, tend to have to much tree and not enough nose and brains to use it. English dogs tend to not have enough nose and give to much mouth, black n tans dont have enough speed, and redbones take to long to become a finished dog. Now I know there are some great dogs out there that are not blue, but 9out of 10 blue dogs have it all. The ones I have have cold noses but they have the brains to use it, they are great around the house and the woods, and are easy to train. Look around to find what your looking for. You are more than welcome to call me and I can help you find what you need. Fetter wilder. 859 866 9967. E mail fw2deephollerblues@gmail.com
