i hunt squirrels with dogs because i like hunting with dogs. sure, i could kill more squirrels still hunting or trapping them in the city. i don't find that fun. hunting sqirrels with dogs, compared to coon hunting is nice because you can see what the dogs are doing. you can see where you're going. you're less likely to get lost. you don't have to wade swamps so much. you can eat what you kill and like it. you get to shoot more and more often. your dog gets more fur in its mouth. your dog gets to use its eyes and ears. it's a great way to sharpen your dogs senses. and, you can go home, eat supper, and go back out and hunt coons with the same dog. it's a dog thang.

Most coonhunters need two hounds...one to hunt and one to brag on...

I asked Dad once why he usually had 3 beagles when he kept saying he liked to hunt a good pair. He said every time he got down to two something happened to one of them and he only had one. I guess one to many was better than not enough.

Just as many as they want. As long as they get fed well, fresh water, shots, wormed (includeing heart and all other) and most of all a life OFF A CHAIN AND HUMAN INTERACTION MOST DAYS. If you can't do that in my opinion you have to many and if you can then it doesn't matter if you have 1 or 1000. It is nobodys buisness.

I think you should only have as many as you can hunt and afford to take care of!

I have 3 beagles that get run at least 3 times a week and in a pack.

I have 1 coon hound that gets hunted at least 4 times a week. I dont like to pack hunt coonhounds.

As far as how many? I would never have more than I have time to give plenty of running to. If your going to leave them in the cage all the time then buy a rabbit.

I took two dogs out, we hunted in 30 degree weather till 4 am, back into the dog houses....throw hides into freezer n to bed... I get up at 7am ( too prove a point to my world and get my chores done....also knowing there is a nap at 2 pm with the kids...this is my weekend...)

that night at 4 pm when the suns goin down... whos outside ready to go? well them two dogs, that just went... will go but they dont look..... too on FIRE about it...I need two more dogs.......

every Hunter needs 5 dogs whats the big deal...NOW I would only imagine ya'll have enough brains to clothe and feed everyone in your family... Hounds and livestock included...or make a change...right?
