Tonight for example. I took my WalkerX Leopard. My twelve year old Walker (grandaddy) and a Registered leopad hound. The killing season started two months ago but the alligators didn't know it, so tonight was the second night I hunted but the first in six months for these particular dogs. The crossbred pup treed and shot that one. Did not leash him and he fell treed back near the truck, Killed #2. Loaded and took the leopard to a bird patch and led him by the collar 50 feet to the edge of a swamp. He struck in ten feet. Sniffed along the top of a fallen dead tree and treed about 40 feet away.. I shined. nothin. Cussed a little, he left but re-did the same thing. Cussed some more and shined again, not to see an eye, but to see a tail. Coon tail. I really thought squrrels had been running up and down that dead log, and I shure felt bad about the cussing.
Hunt walkers, tree in five minutes, drive 1/4, walk 200 yards, maybe cooneye, maybe hollow, leafy but maybe slick. Hunt sguirrel/coon combo's, strike at your feet, watch what's going on, put the coon on the ground in 5 minutes. You decide.
