I guess I might if I have ran out of bullets. I have shot several on the ground when the dog couldn't finish them. Just don't understand why you would use a gun as a club. More unloaded guns kill people than loaded ones. As far as using a bolt action, you must not have pine trees where you hunt. Hard to cut a hole deep into a pine where all you can see is flicker of an eye deep behind a bunch of limbs.

why? you ask? because i was out of shells, the dogs couldn't finish it, and it was trying to go into the river. was it dumb? yes, i suppose it was in hindsight, but at the time it seemed the thing to do.

LOL

10/22

Best .22 ever made. I've got one thats over 30 years old. It looks pretty bad, its been left in the woods for 6 months before i remembered where I left it. It was leaned against a tree and had fell over and covered by leaves. I pick it up fired it and its never jammed, mis-fired and hardly ever gets cleaned. I've also got a Ruger .270 deer rifle that I would'nt trade for any other gun.

I learned that lesson with an old Nylon 66. Can't remember who made that gun, but it was a good 'un, even after I had to duct tape it together!

lol

i don't recall the 10/22 being in "duct tape-able" condition when i got done with it. but, the coon didn't make it to the river.
i also, at a later date, left it(with the new stock) in the middle of a large beaver pond on a hump after killing the coon and trying to gather mine and my buddies dogs. got turned around going out, got to the truck about 4:30 am. when back the next afternoon and walked somehow straight to it. weird and wacky things.

My stainless 10/22 with the solid made composite stock has been tossed around like a rag doll, horse kicked, left in the woods, ran over, dropped in the river, head butted the mules and its not failed to shoot accurate. I honestly dont know how the old Weaver scope (older than I am) has withstood the punishment. The gun is a little heavy, but I like it. I bought a lever action Browning one year and put it in the gun case, decided it was to pretty to use.

I love my 10/22 carried it for years. I bought my son a mossburg plinkster 702 when he passed his hunter ed class. put a 4/32 scope on it and now we use it . much lighter and just as acurate. it only cost $104 out the door

We rabbit hunt with 10-22's, behind beagels. 4X power scope dosen't get any better. Clips are real easy to put in and out.

I broke the stock on mine one night breaking up a dog fight, had it in hand and seemed like the thing to do at the time. New camo stock and it's still working and even looks a little prettier. Back in the day of M1's and M14's those Drill Instructer's had a lot faith in a good butt stroke.

I got a stainless synthetic that's about fifteen years old. Shot a pile of coon and been through the mill and still looks like new. I carry it with the mag full and the chamber empty and when the dogs hear me rack the slide they get real quiet. The mag fits flush so you don't catch it on brush and it's easy to unload and move to a new spot. If you have issues with the mag just go on rimfire central and they will show you how to tune it so it works flawlessly. A 10/22 full of stingers is big medicine on big coon.
