AM General retained full ownership of the military contract Hummers. The commericial H1 and H2 division which was owned by General Motors is what the Chinese bought.

THESE Hummers that GM are just SUBURBANS in a different set of clothing... Big Old Yuppy "SUV's"...

THIS should be the least of our concerns... let the chinese have them.... Let's be concerned out things like our crappie education system in the USA... we NEED to educate our kids without having to use private education. As the parent of one son who had the LUCK to get Private education(thank you Grandmother...) and 2 who had to go to public school (the money ran out...).... I hated to see 2 of our kids get less education... There HAS to be SOMETHING that can straighten out the govt...and get the money put to the RIGHT places???

I'm not a very politcal person... but I do see that SOMETHING is wrong here.....
I'm praying for changes.....
HappyHUNTING! Heather

they have been buying our debt from all of our foolish social programs we can't pay for for a long time and they need somewhere to repatriate all that funny money wet ink currency they have accumulated. there is only so much you can do with a pile of gold, you might want a hummer to cruise around in to go with it.

i honestly believe "we" have NO INTENTION of paying back that debt. can anybody say bernie madoff? can anybody say pyramid scheme? our citizenry will get this same hammer dropped on them just like the chinese.

Are you 100% sure? From what I read the AM General plant goes too. All plants are still under operation till 2010. Im not swearing I have all the facts though. I couldnt imagine a Chinise owned company manufacturing out military trucks. I also saw where the Hummer has a new vehicle out that are to withstand land mines.

holding u.s. currency or anything "paper" denominated in it (stocks, bonds) is like holding a stick of t-n-t with a lit fuse of indeterminate length that you can't see.

Humvee (HMMWV and H1) and Hummer are two totally different companies/vehicles today.
GM selling Hummer has absolutely nothing to do with the military.

WASHINGTON (Army News Service, June 3, 2009) — The military’s High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle, also known as a “HMMWV” or a “Humvee,” will continue to be made in the United States, by an American-owned company.

The recent announcement that Detroit-based General Motors will sell their Hummer brand of vehicles to Chinese-based Sichuan Tengzhong Heavy Industrial Machinery Company, has no bearing on the U.S. military’s Humvee.

“The Army’s Humvee and the civilian Hummer look similar and share a common appearance,” said spokesman Lt. Col. Martin Downie. “But the rights to produce those two different vehicles are no longer owned by the same company.”

Humvee manufacturer AM General is an American company based in South Bend, Ind. The company produced the first 55,000 Humvees for the Army in 1985. The company continues today to produce the Humvee for the military.

In the early 1990s, AM General began producing a civilian version of the Humvee, calling it a “Hummer.” But by the late 1990s, AM General had sold the Hummer name to General Motors.

While GM will sell the Hummer nameplate to Sichuan Tengzhong, the military’s Humvee, its designs, unique performance capabilities and technologies will continue to be owned by, and the vehicle produced by, AM General.

I'm sorry but need to disagree. During the Reagan years We favored trade to the Japanese whipping out millions of American Companies, (American Jobs). And used the excuse the japanese we're more Educated. Well the uneducated Amer. gov. covered there butts by saying this.

Now we closed American companies giving the jobs to Chinese peasants crawling in from the rice fields and using the excuse of education. LOL. Cheap is Cheap, Rep. or Dem.

Doesn't matter how much education a person has if a mentally challegened individual is calling the shots.

In the industrial world today any country around the globe can be competitive. Todays machines are all basically the same software packages. By saying this I mean that the Haas or Okumas making the GM, Ford, Chrysler products are the same machines making the Hondas, Toyotas, Nissans working with the same tooling manufactures with the same tolerances all in competitive form.

I think lightning1 pretty much summed up the education, our Gov making excuses. Also our trade policy problems began with Jimmy Carter or maybe even Ford. My high school teacher in 88 talked about the world economy then. Its been a Gov agenda through 7 or 8 Presidents to join the glbal market.. Problem I see now we have vast majority of foreign owned companies making products on our soil while many of our own decided to take business across seas to stay competitive. Gov incentitives and regulations have played a large roll in this. Id rather not elaborate.
