i don't see what the big deal is one way or the other. coondogs will tree coons, others won't. i have a dog that can do it either way. only thing about a bucket, in this area anyway, it evens up some of the areas you hunt. with or without, coondogs win.

why dont yall just let people hunt the way they want to.if they want to hunt over feeder buckets more power to them!!!!!!i hunt over feeder buckets all the time and love it. whens it 1000 degrees you would much rather walk 200 yrds to get your dog treed than 3 miles.some of you are right most of these gr nt ch dogs were made that hunting over feeder buckets

Yall also keep this one in mind...I've got 2 young kids that I take hunting, and this time of year, I hunt over feeder buckets because I'm not taking young kids through a snakes and ticks 1/2/ the nigt...I dont think they would want 2 go 2 often if you take the fun out of it...Also. you dont get out till 10pm and have to get up at 5am for work...I dont hunt the hunts, so I am talking pleasure hunting

They aint no difference in turnin a dog on a feeder and turning a dog where coons eat.As long as theres a coon in the dad blame tree im happy.I dont care how it got there as long as my dogs at the bottom of the tree and the coons in the top of it.Coons arent stupid and can usually get away from the dog if they try hard enough.Its just a matter of opinion but IMO buckets are fine and every where i hunt has a feeder.

I think this argument is about hunting off feeders in night hunts and racking up huge scores. not about whether or not you hunt feeders or not. driving 2 hours to a night hunt and drawing out with a guide that does not hunt off buckets, working to score 2-3 coon and coming in with an honest 200-400+. And you gotta take 2nd to the local guy guiding, coming in with 1200+ , hunting off buckets that 10 coons are feeding on.
Its no different than baiting turkey or deer.
The night hunts become a luck of the draw, other than the best dog wins.

boys coondogs should tree coons anywhere. on feeders or in the wild. if you get beat dont blame it on feeders. i wish people would stop whining and take losses and go on with their lives.

Has been beaten like a dead horse since the first visit I ever made to this site.

To those that think a dog that hunts buckets can not tree a wild coon, come on down and pay me a visit. 13 year old dog will tree coon anyway I let him loose. He has been retired for some time now as well. Sittin on the porch swing with me drankin cold beer.

If you own a coondog. feeder bucket or not he'll tree you a coon. chances are if he aint treeing feeder bucket coons, he aint treeing many coons at all cause their the most easiest coon to tree. get you another dog.

..I think some are missing the point of this guy's thread.............he isn't saying dogs that hunt feeder buckets can only tree coons on feeder buckets.............as several have said.........a coon dog is a coon dog..............buckets or no buckets........................what he IS saying is if you draw a guide that turns the dogs loose down a creek..................and the feeder bucket is up the ridge 150 yards in a pine thicket.........and his dog knows this and hunts the buckets regularly......he has an advantage........dogs turned loose on a creek are generally gonna bust down the creek.............not head up a ridge............3 or 4 turn looses like this and it's hard to beat the guide and his dog, especially down here where we don't have many coons........other side of the coin, if the coons are not movin'...the dogs that are wayyyy down the creek are gonna blister the homey's butt..........lololol

i know a guy who is a prime example of this,his dogs are bucket trained,they know were the buckets are on every drop and he can about tell you what tree there in BEFORE WE GET THERE!!!He hardly ever take them outta range where he cant guide to his spots,and yet he has titled a number of hounds this way,but when he takes those HIGH POWERED hounds to other hunts they dont do to well,now saying this i do have a couple feeder bucket drops but thats it but i use them as a warm up or to just get a drop in i have 800 plus spot with no buckets and you can tree coon after coon there,theres a place for feeders but in hunts i say nay

In the State of Virginia its Just illegal Period .. No If ands or Butts !!

If I were to Post "Boy the Bear are Really hitting my Feeders Hard" and show Photos of my hounds around those Feeder .. Guess What thats a Mandatory 1 year "if Caught" of No Fishing or Hunting and a $250-$500 Fine plus Court Cost, 2nd Time Caught is a Lifetime Suspension in Every State thats recipitory to Virginia .

The same law that pertains to Running or Hunting off a Baited Site Covers Every Critter that lives in the State ..

Just try to tell the Judge that hey the "250 acres of Acorns on the Ground is the same as the Feeders" ..

ok ive hunted mississippi and lousiana and michigan i have hunted with buckets and without all i have to say is thin coon thick coon a good dog will strike no matter what and also bucket no bucket will strike EVENTUALLY i just had to say that cause i use buckets in half my hunt arae
