Whichever feed works for the particular dogs you are feeding. %90 of the dry kibble feed needs more if you are hunting hard. The other aspect of feed is that many don't know how or when to feed, therefore they never realize the feeds maximum benefits.

Here in Texas, I use Lonestar Hi Pro 27 in the Summer, and Lonestar Star Pro 27 in the winter.
The Star Pro has a higher fat content than the Hi Pro.
This is good feed made here in Texas. I have never seen them on a pet food recall, and my hounds stay in good shape.
Here is thier website http://www.texasfarm.com

P.M.I. Red Flannel Prime Formula. $21.34 tax included for 50 pound bag. When you buy 6 bags you get a free one. That makes it 18.29 per bag.

I been feeding SportMix now for a few years and been happy with it.

I am feeding a couple right now Southern States Advanced Active 26/18 to see how they do on it to compare against the SportMix.

For those of you not aware of this feed, here is some info:

I have followed this subject for years and fed all types of feed. For years, I fed Pro Plan but it got to pricey and the quality is not the best anymore with not very good ingredients such as by-products and alot of corn. Diamond Naturals is about the best out there ingredient wise for the money with no corn, no soy, and no bi-products. Check out the Diamond Naturals chicken and rice, it has better ingredients than all of Purina's products. Black Gold is a good solid food with alot of vitamins and minerals. If you want to know more about ingredients go to www.dogfoodanalysis.com and check the site out, it is very interesting. I know Purina and Black Gold sponsor alot of events and for that we all should be grateful. I just cant see myself ever going back to Purina since they are now co owned with nestle from switzerland. I like to keep my products American owned if all possible. This is all my opinions of course. Thanks for reading and I hope you find the best possible feed for you and your hounds, so they live a happy and long life.

Purina Puppy Chow for pups until 1 year old. Pro Plan after a year old. One cup a day keeps them shiny and slick.

"Taste of The Wild". made by Diamond. Very high but the best I have seen. Ingredients list to start off as...Bison, Venison, Salmon, Lamb, No By-Products. It is one of the next level dog foods that are better than Pro Plan, Eukanuba, Iams etc. it is also much higher. as in about 2.00 per lb.

We've tried 'em all. Really liked ProPlan and Diamond Naturals but there is no way we can afford them right now.

We have the hounds on Hi-Standard right now (26/18) and we are VERY pleased with the results...Dogs are being hunted 5-6 nights a week with no problems, very energetic and all have a nice shiny coat. Low stool volumes too....

Hi-Standard Dog Food, IMO is the best you can buy for the money. Dogs eat it well, lots of energy, coats very shiny and easy kennel clean up.

The pet industry has turned into a huge money maker. Unfortunatly the dog food companies have figured out how to keep the cost up. I went from Pro Plan to dog Chow and the dogs still look great but lost their edge due to loss of energy and higher temps. I just bought a bag of Diamond for a freakin $25 (high energy bag). Its not good enough feed for that much money. Once again I am at a crossroads for dog food.
Pro Plan and Diamond Naturals are at the top of my list BUT $40 a bag?? + I have to drive 25 miles. I may have to turn into a dealer lol

I use the Pro-Plan shredded blend Chicken and Rice right now, and I usually feed my dogs half their food in the morning and half in the evening after they get done being worked or hunted. Not sure how much of a difference it makes physically to feed them twice a day instead of once, but I think it psychs them out and makes them THINK they're eating more haha!
