It'd be tough to have it here in Michigan.
Deer seasons run from October first till December 31.
Kinda tough to get permission sometimes. During rifle season ( Nov 15-30 ) , or Muzzleloader season ( 2 weeks in Dec. ) , if you lose a dog , there's a good chance it will be shot the next morning.
The World Hunt ain't important enough to me to want to take a chance on getting a dog shot. Mine , or anyone elses.
Just because it's cold outside does not prove that it takes a " real coondog " to tree a coon.
However , winning the World Hunt with the leaves on does prove that if they're there , you can find them !

With no leaves the cast has alot harder time to go blind. I know of 2 trees in abig cast that would have made all the differance in the world.

It Is True

Leaves on full may by chance get you a lucky break, But you do need a little luck every now & then as we all know on the local level & why wouldn't you need it on the world??? BUT the UKC World Finals isn't won by treeing slick. True there have been instances where a coon wasn't treed on final cast of the world & circle was made & went back to most plus point cast wins, but the world championship was won by the dog that had the most consistent plus point cast wins period!!! If you've got a slick treeing dog that doesnt care to get treed by itself you're going to be beat by a dog or dogs that are treeing coon period unless of course you handle like I do sometimes & can't keep your mouth shut & beat yourself lol.If you notice other registries world hunts have been won with plus points too, but definitley don't have to have plus to win. I firmly believe in plus to win & thankfully UKC does too, but I sure wouldn't object to taking a check for several thousand dollars if I won on minus or circle either. Although the situation hasn't came up before me . I'd definitley take the money & run lol. Wouldn't you???

Some dogs might get trigger happy in the summer ... but there are few dogs that you'd see competing that will miss in the winter ... you just don't see many decent dogs treeing up blanks in the winter .. for whatever reason.

In the fall when all the fruit and nut crops are being worked on is a fun time to hunt ... we should go farther than just having the hunts then ... we should get Obama to make all four seasons be fall .

I like hunting in the heat o the summer ... keeps the fats boys and their fat dogs out of my woods ... when it don't get dark til' ten and the bugs try to carry you away ... that's when the coon are moving best and you can get a dog trained .
