I asked my local wildlife agency about big cats, whatever the color, in west tennessee and they just laughed in my face. They said there were no big cats around here so i replied well if i see one it shouldnt be a problem killing it and it was no more laughing they said oh no you cant kill it they are protected. How can something be protected by law, if it doesn't exist.

The only large black cats in this hemisphere are black jaguars in a very small part of the Amazon Rain Forrest.

There has never been a big black cat killed or even photoed in the USA.

Only 4 big cats in the US with the most common being a bobcat. Then I would say couger (mountian lion, puma, panther). Then the lynx. Then I seen a show that had pics of jagaurs in Arizona and New Mexico but all they have pics of were 2 males.

Why is it so hard to believe that an animal that once roamed the country to not be able to be around any longer??

That's like saying we know all the creatures of the oceans. If animals couldn't be out there then how do people find new species all the time?

I'm not saying anything about black cats, because I've never seen one. But moutain lions in Tennesse...I've seen and would tell anyone...believe me or not!

Blue dogs are MEAN mofo's !!! Remember that!

Honestly my wife and I almost hit one driving on a back road one night! Got a good look at it in the headlights. Had to brake to keep from hitting it! Just as black as black cats get.

No this one lives here. I turn her out of her cage at night! She just got in the wrong place and got treed! I leashed up the hounds and put them away so she could come down. If the game warden comes calling I know why!

Scroll back up and re-read Chapmans post.. He nailed it exactly. There '' could'' be a few cougars running around , but the chance of a black one is astronomical.

Now, that being said , I did once see 3 pink elephants cross the road one night after I left the bar...Thats the shore nuff truth..

Now Sick me again moderaters!!

Here ya go...

Pretty sure it's just a feral cat, but it weighed 20 lbs, bobtail, was 100% wildcat and like to have whooped two dogs with 2 bullets in it.

Treed it a long ways from any civilization.

Shot at one!

About 14 years ago while coonhunting in Clarendon county South Carolina on the Pocataligo River, a black panther was following me/stalking me as I went to the dogs treed with a coon! When I turned around and saw the cat it laid down on top of some tree roots! I then shot at it twice and missed! Rifle was empty so I reloaded! I commensed to shooting and ithe rifle hung up! After getting my knife out and clearing the hung up bullet I started firing at the cat again and it started running to the right! I shot 16 times at it and it left running fast as a deer! So, don't tell me that they don't exist! And this one looked to be about 60+ pounds and had yellow eyes and solid black! I told our deer hunting club president about the episode and he said there were at least three on the club! I told him there might only be two now! They are for real, no joke! I then went on to the dogs treed and shot the coon out! However, I didn't go back to the truck in the direction I had come because that's the way the cat I shot at went! True story! I also saw one sitting by the side of the road in Marion County SC on Whahee Deer Club while walking back to the truck one night! Also, saw a brown panther drinking water out of a mud hole while on a deer hunt! So they do exist in the Southeast!

That's a full grown one if it's a feral cat! A lady here use to have some house cats that were at least that big if not bigger. I don't know what breed they were but they were huge, smooth-haired black cats.
