I'm not throwing stones at old Sackett.... I never hunted with him, and as I said, I only hunted with one dog directly out of him....and he was just a common coon hound...nothing special about him. I know that he was bred repeatedly, and could not reproduce his own likeness.
But we so often get focused on the stud, and we some times forget about the Dam's contribution to reproductive ability.
My point is simply this....if Sackett had 300 pups, and one of them went on to be a super reproducer, it's likely that the Dam was as much, if not more, responsible for the reproductive abilities as the sire....
