Joe, I've got a female that Im planning on having bred in late April. I've narrowed it down to three dogs and two of them are directly out of Whitey. Joker and Riverbend Style here near my home in Tennessee. I, like you, believe that a dog throws the average of its litter. With that being said, wow what a litter Joker is out of. Joker, White trash, Dolly, Molly, Abby is one powerful litter and in my opinion could be marked as one of the greatest ever as far as BALANCED coondogs. Ive seen almost all but Joker go and was wondering if his pups hunt the same way the rest of this litter does? Also what parts of this litter's hunting style comes from Whitey and what did they Iowa dogs contribute? Thanks

Roger,
Joker is about like the rest of that litter. He's a little more of a "loner"....won't take second tree to anything...He got ate up as a pup, and won't cover another dog....they can cover him...he does not care, but if they beat him to the tree...you'll find him somewhere else...that's probably the biggest difference, and it's more from his experience with an older female when he was 9 months old.
His pups are pretty much carbon copies. The get gone, get struck pretty easily, don't say a ton on the ground, and are looking to get hooked up with a coon. Not "overpowering" tree dogs, but you won't have to scratch your head and wonder if they are treed.
I never got the chance to hunt with the Sadie dog, but have heard that she was quite the operator....so honestly, I can't tell you what the Iowa County impact was to these dogs. Joker's momma was out of Gary Starns Sadie dog...I think she won walker days once...or maybe the Lee Crawford hunt...Joker's momma's sire was Harry, and of course I will always believe that the best part of Harry was from his momma....so you basically have doubled up on the clover.
I can say this with near certainty. Joker (and he was the only one in the litter that got this) got his color from the Iowa County line. Now in all the pups I've raised out of him, there has only been one blanket back, tan headed pup...( and I had to give her away cause everyone wants an ugly dog from me.)
