you are correct that it is not required to delete the collars and start over each time, I just feel it is better and that way I am sure each one is set and not interfering with anything else. Ga Dawg it may have prevented your issue if that was done, not sure. Anyway thats just what I do and everyone can choose to do or not but I haven't had problems with mine and I love em.
