mills im only 50 miles from the UP of michagin.ya its pretty flat in these parts but you get up by lake supirior the terane gets pretty rough. the revines are steddy and deap. and i get alot of my big hides out of them areas. because know one else hunts them. terane is to rough.

For those of you that think that all of those den trees are slick.....or the dogs run the track backwards...

mills that just dont sound like my style of hunting.I would rather through my snow shoes on and go get deep. the only cold weather hunting that we realy do is cat and coyote. but it sure is fun. once you hunt a couple times inthis cold weather your body adapts to it. of course I hate heat sow theres no way id make it down south.

i think its got a lot to do with the dog your hunting some dogs wont mess with old cold tracks.


I've hunted with guys around here that make twice the den trees i make. good or bad some dogs go till they find a track that satisfies them. I've hunted dogs that just made one or two trees a night those dogs are more likely to make den trees imo.

Where and when ,just so happens i got some vacation time [first two weeks dec.]so i just need to know where???

we took out ol' skeeter and a pup and treed 8 no slicks no dens. oh yeah caught 1 in the creek and 1 in a corn stubble field and bayed till i got there

hope every one had fun thats the important thing.

4 singles, a double, 2 on the ground, went 3 mile treed 3 coons, and home by 4...I was done!!

I almost never go to a den tree. Very, very rare. I can't speak for other parts of the country, but down here in North Georgia. A dog that consistently trees den trees is a very poor track dog.

Elvis so much has to do with what part of the country your in. Up there where you guys are at where coons spend so much time in dens during the cold months I don't think it's a bad thing to tree lots of den trees. But down here it's a different story. Most of the misunderstandings between me and you and Oak Ridge and Jim is simply because of the fact that we hunt in two totally different worlds in regards to coon population, coon habits, Terrain, and climate.

ELVIS when its cold like it is now.I under stand den trees with out a dought. you will hit dens. when I posted this it was late sep maybe early oct. I dont hit many dens with my dogs at that time of year. when I would go with a couple different hounds we would hit dens. and I mean alot 3 out of 4 on average. as my dog progressed and quit honnering these older dogs. she started taking the track on her own. and we would see the coon. not a den. or supposedly a den. lot of them so called den trees a squirel coudn't fit through the hole they found.
