I was brought up to believe you shouldn't give a hound to much attention or they wouldn't hunt hard or range out. I will say I won't touch a pup while out hunting but house dogs seem to listen and handle better.

Have two other's that live down yonder in hunt head quarter's but they are crated at night. I wouldn't mind gettin down to 4 hounds & keep them all in the house. For me health wise it is awsome to let them out to do their thing & run off a lil steam yet get them in when I want to.

The real bonus from it all is the one on one time as far as handling goes. I don't need a leash when I go just say,"COME ON BUM" & he's beside me no matter how far or how many track's we walk over.

This one has picked up on my health issue's as well. When I am in a bad way he know's it! Two day's ago I was down hard for the count & he was beside me either stairin at me or nudgin me the whole day till I went to bed & he still kept coming in checkin on me. He woke me several time's by lickin my hand & slept rite next to me on the floor aposed to his own bed.

You'd be surprised the intellect that you'd never know about in when you have them in a kennel.

And who said dogs aren't smart? Well maybe not all!
I have 2 weiner dogs and I swear they are smarter then my kids, and my daughter has a 4.0 in college. Now son is a different story at a 3.0 in his senior year!

Our dogs have been treed all morning on the coon in the maple tree above the pen! Even the AKC showdawg BnT was winding it and gave Bob the hint to look up! LOL... Got some pix but the camera is being used at the moment so I can't post em.... This is one of a litter of coons that have been calling the hayloft home and making the blue dawg nuts...
I'd say even after yrs of retirement and the easy life that a coondawg is always a coondawg(and a fake one can think he is too....the BnT sounds like a high pitched tarzan...)

Enjoy your hounds whether house dogs, kennel dogs or on the chain... they will perform better for you if they have the desire to please you!

in my case, most of the hounds that i hunt, hunt a little [or a lot] harder than most people want, so no problem there. in particular, xtra, cowboy and half all hunt almost scary deep. cowboy now hunts closer, but while training these three, it was not unusual to pick them up 2-4 miles from the truck. and while on some occasions off game was the reason, many nights they would just drift through the country, like they had spent all day dreaming about it!

ch nt ch pr Flatridge Budro slept in the hotel with me on the road runnign the purina race. he lives in the house all th time and sleeps in the bed. He gets upset when I go hunting and leave him home. Any one who has hunted with him knows he is not at all adversely effected by living in the house. His father also lived in the house, I am sure all ov you remember Buckeye Bud? He had his own room in the house. If you have a coon dog you will never take the hunt away from them.
