I'm sure they wouldn't be. The MOH isn't held accountable for making a wrong ruling. And it's a good thing. Nobody would do it if they had to pay some kind of penalty for making a mistake.

To put it another way ,,, after you score your tree and are leading your dog away;;

Senario 1... the other dogs are trailing... There is NO option here , you MUST cut loose..

Senario 2... the other dogs are treed... There is NO Option here , you CANNOT cut at all.....

Senario 3... one dog treed and others trailing.. This is where the new rule applies.. You have the option to cut or not..

Someone can correct me if I am wrong...

Longshot,Allen explained UKC's policy on this one in a different post.Another dog does NOT have to be struck or opening.They just have to be out competing for strike.

Travis, that is true , but it has always been that way.In the past you could always re-cast after scoreing a tree as long as no dog was treed somewhere else..

I suppose what you are saying is ,,, I just scored my tree ,,, and another dog is treed , but the others are not struck in and are hunting somewhere... Even then I can cut loose???? Correct??

The wording in the rule says '' if another dog is trailing , you can cut '' .... I suppose it should have said '' if another dog is still out , you can cut ''

Someone clarify????

In regards to rule 3d d)

"Dog cannot receive plus or minus strike points if he is not on trail when first dog is declared treed unless he trees on separate tree."

A is treed and 5 is up.

B is struck after A is treed with a line under it.

B is treed for 125 (due to new rule change) before cast arives at dog A's tree.

B is at A's tree when cast arives.

B is minused his tree points for not being on his own tree.

Does B now become liable for his strike points since B was "treed" on a "separate" tree from A?

Virgil , this is what the new rule says.;

If they are at tree shut out on when judge arrives, strike points are deleted. For all other situations they are accountable for their strike points.}

So strike would be deleted and tree would be minused 125 because the only call possible would have been a split tree for 125 because the first tree was closed... In the past the dog could trail around and quit or the 8 catch them and still not get minused, but with the new rule , they are minused on strike unless on the same tree shut out on.

Bottom line is,, dont call your dog treed after the 5 is up on a tree , unless you know for sure that is split because if he is not split , it is an automatic minus , reguardless if coon is seen, circle or whatever because he was shut out on that tree.

Even with a 3 to 1 cast vote that the dog should be scratched, a Hunt Director can't make the final decision and go with the cast vote so they can finish their hunt until a panel is formed. Now with a 2a.m. deadline, not enough qualified to be on a panel until 1a.m. come back to make the decision. Unless the deadline is extended or everyone just quits, there is no way their hunt can gets finished to make the original deadline. My idea of the Master of Hounds sitting at a club house to make a decision, so the cast can get back to the woods. Now a Hunt Director won't be able to do that. Just my opinion, but I've been playing this game since 1970 and I want the decision to be made as soon as I get back to the clubhouse, so we can go finish a cast, not an hour or two later. I also dis-agree with the turn loose rule, but that's a whole 'new can of worms' and will cause problems, in my opinion. Take care, Ron.

RON, IM MORE OF A PKC HUNTER THAN ANYTHING ELSE, AND HAVE BEEN SINCE I GUESS 89. THE PANEL IS THE BEST WAY IN MY OPINION, IT WORKS GREAT AT PKC EVENTS, AND THEY HAVE EARLIER DEADLINES BECAUSE OF THE OPTION OF GOING BACK OUT ON A LATE ROUND ESPECIALLY ON THE WEEKEND HUNTS WHERE IT ONLY TAKES 1 PERSON TO TAKE THEM BACK OUT

Mark, Travis is right in that so long as there is a dog out you would have the option to re-cast with a dog declared treed. The terminology leaves a little grey area unfortunately. Wish we would have re-written that one a little to make it a little more clear in that regard. But yes, so long as a dog is out that is not declared treed, a handler has the option to re-cast his dog after scoring a tree. This will be addressed in the January Advisor article.

HUNT PANEL, about time

now UKC just has to bring in a fee for putting a question on the card. This would stop alot of unnecessary questions!!!!

Well there is a fee for a question brought to a panel, $20.00. Question for the MOH are still free.
