ya i think that some being fed to them when they are pups helps a lot. i think that you do need to knock one out to them at least once a month, during kill season, take big boars out for them when they are older. cutter is a steady shop when he is completely treed. he gets one usually once a month. he went one time with 72 coon treed and none knocked out. but age does have a lot to do with it.

Me too. Drives me nuts and makes it really hard training a young dog with him. Works good during comp hunting but when its hide season I sit high and dry.

now to answer the question at hand: I think it depends on the dog... some dogs need more than others and some dogs don't need any more than 1 or 2 a year (if any at all).. in some cases, giving SOME dogs a lot of fur will do more harm than good.... I beleive we hunters need it more than our dogs do......

i intend to knock out around 30 this season not because my dogs need it. i do it because i need it after hunting all year leaving coon after coon in the trees its time for me and my walkers to be rewarded a little. i don't mean monetary reward either I'm talking about hearing that thud then watching the action.
