mike where are you going to find 200 coon hunters in a particular area? heck i doubt there are much more than 1000 in all of illinois,
and some of them only go out one day a week.

i dont agree with shiners but if the law states they can hunt that way than who am i to judge. same thing goes for trappers. just as they have no right looking badly apon us.. this fude has been going on for over a decade and yet we still have plenty of coon to go around.

here this is directly out of the dnr website its something to think about
"Distribution & Abundance
Raccoons are abundant and found throughout Illinois. Their numbers have increased dramatically since the early 1900s, and scientists believe there are more raccoons in Illinois today than when the first European settlers arrived here. Populations of 9 to 45 raccoons per square mile are common in Illinois. Fall population estimates as high as 98 to 101 raccoons per square mile have been recorded for parts of Cook, Kane and McHenry counties"

now illinois has a 57918 sq mi radious. we will keep the populations est Low and say 25 coons per sq mile.

that means there are 1,447,950 give or take a couple hundred thousand or so.

that means if there were 1000 coon hunters in illinois they could take 1000 coons a years and still have plenty around.

now how many coon hunters can take that many coon
from nov 5 to till feb 10
even if you went every night and killed 10 coons each night you would only come up with 900.

like i said i have other things to worry about than not having coon around. lol

i would be interested in coon pupulations from places like sc and va that may not have as many coon.

that's a bs study in so IL we don't have that kinda population. i been hunting here since i was 12 if you think all the coon hunters in so IL can harvest 10 a nite and still have plenty of coon your slick treed!

maybe you got that kinda population out there on the river so slaughter your coons idgara. i don't consider anything north of I64 so IL....well maybe up to flora but that's a stretch!

I hunt from Fowler to Saranac to Sheridan , Stanton and all the way up to Harrison I have traveled a lot of woods some private and some state land do have a guess on how many other people I have seen out hunting its a big fat Zero I hunt state land that is like hunting private land that has never been coon hunted before do you know why because you have to get off your duff and go find them its just like deer hunting around here these days everybody and there brother has some dumb excuse why they can't find a deer to hunt or a woods full of game do some research get out of your truck and take your but for a walk look for sign food sources if you have food cover and water you will have game to hunt. Its work its hard to do and sometimes it just plain s---s wearing out a pair of boats but trust me its worth it, I 've been told no a lot of times but it only takes one yes to have a hot spot. And I sit here and tell you that i will share and I don't matter because tomorrow I still be looking for another spot to turn the Red dog loose so he can do his thing, and it is his thing because he has already learned that when he tips that head back and long load bawl roles out I'll be there it just my take me time but i will always will be there.

No, and they wont be for another month, If you wait till they are prime around here you will be able to carry your yearly take to the buyer in one hand.

Our Coons are fully Prime where we are. Here's a couple of pics, One fromt he first nite of kill season, and another from a few days later.

Josh is right, I shot a real hogger on the 25th and the hide wasn't that good. Anybody who shot 125 coon this early was just wastin ammo. They'll be there is a few weeks, be patient.

I am going to skin the 9 I got the other night. I'll let you know what I find, last week Curtis and I shot one real nice one, wasn't blue at all. That was the first one we had seen that was ready.

I wish I would have skinned these in the woods

By the way, that dog is 28 pounds. I don't have a scale, but I bet a lot of those coon are close to the same weight.

had a farmer up here kill thirty in less than a week by putting fly poison in a pie tin in the middle of his corn field, he said half died with their heads in the dish. so up here shiners and over shooting coons are the last thing to worry about.

The good news is here in MN the coon are now fully prime..

The bad news is our daytime highs are single digits and below zero at night with a few inches of snow to den the coon up...
