Good Luck

anomolies in the breeds

Maybe it's just me but where do you think they came from? hounds with tight skin, small feet shorter than usual tails and hot nosed to boot, but they sure look good on the bench don't they? What about the solid colored hounds out there with the white showing on their chest and even feet occasionally? How about the Pink noses that keep cropping out in some, and the coarse hair and flag tails on others. Now I'm not picking on anyones breed in particular, just stating the facts as they appear to me. Most of the outcrosses that produced these characteristics were made made a long time ago, however, we are still seeing the results in the breeds today. We have hounds that chop 120 barks a minute on tree and Dogs that look stunning on the bench as a result of all this selective outcrossing by our ancestors. The advent of DNA profiling will help regulate this to some extent, and I commend UKC and the other KC's for implementing it, but as long as there are people in the process there will always be new things to watch for. What color is Liver anyway??

My point is if you are honest about the cross, then go for it just like I did. Tell the truth, register them as what they are and let time and the pups prove whether you were right or not. As far as the percentages go, how many pups really make coondogs from any breeding.

One thing that I have learned, is that often times Hounds, dont produce thier own like ness. Not to say that this breeding is wrong, But if you dont do it, you will alwayse wonder.
So If it were I, and this breeding was of my interest, I would do it.
You could just as easily be pleased, as disapointed, but you will have the satisfaction of having tried it.

I Think it could be a cross of a lifetime or a total bust! do it and find out the answer! I breed a Pedro female to my strip dog one of the nicest females Iv ever hunted with. like I said she is out of pedro which goes back to a full brother to houses lipper! further more the female is out of a direct daughter of harry on the bottom side. and just M/O anyone that believes there is a purebreed Hound is a lil touched. Hunt what trees coon! and makes you happy!

Coonhound to Coonhound isn't a crossbred ... at best , just call it cross-colored.

Hounds aren't like cattle or poultry , two dogs from different breeds could be better genetic matches than anything else in the same breed .

It aint like breeding "pure" is guranteed to produce good pups every time .... why hold a cross like this to a different standard ?

I'd imagine that if you have a good bitch , and bred her to a good stud .... you're gonna get good pups.

The ONLY thing that I would look hard at ... is what kind of pups the stud has on the ground .
