I had one out of Mike that had a lot of go, and have heard of others.

Jewel and Mike will both go until they get treed, and can get through the country in pretty short order.

I have never raised a lazy pup out of Jewel yet. They aren't all world beaters, but you never have to kick one of them out from under your feet. I imagine Mike's pups are the same.

Look to Bodacious or Littlejohn's Rock.

I have a 5 month old pup out of Bo and a very nice Chief female. I think this little rascle is going to made a fine hound. I already see some very good traits in him. Nice even temper, minds very well, will go hunting by himself, trees like a jackhammer on squirrels and a coon hide. About 2 more months and he will be ready to take to the woods. I sure don't want to rush him, but I'm getting so excited about him.

Roger wants info. first hand I'm sure and from a hound who has several, SEVERAL litters on the ground before he takes his nice female to him.

You are exactly right, Tom. Every stud throws culls.

But the fact is that some traits are strong in some lines, other traits in others.

Roger look to the total line, not just one good dog in a line. Follow the bloodline for a few generations.

The Jet line could be one direction to go. If I did, I would breed to Jet 8 or Gauge. Both have good reputation and have done well in hunts. Need to talk to their owners to get the scoop on their pups. Most of the ones I've seen lately have been out of Five Again, they looked good. Billy Dehart has one that I would like to own. Very nice young dog, plenty of go in him.
We have some Jet blood in our older Nolan Creek dogs. It came from Wisconsin Jet, who was a direct son of Jet I. We breed Wesconsin Jet to a Bush Creek Blue/ Southern Blue Pride female. One of the best crosses we ever made. From the cross we got, Dual Ch Nolan Creek Star and Gd Nite Ch Nolan Creek Blue Samson. No doubt he was the best most complete dog I ever owned. Was a total package in every way. He was not a deep hunter, but he covered all the ground he need to tree as many coons as you wanted to hunt all night long.
So I don't ever knock the Jet line. They were very good to me back in the 80's

Tom Jones,i'll look into Rock.I heard from a couple people that his pups go hunting.Several in the Bullet II X Ruby litter are slow to go hunting. Not all of them, but several.I don't understand it because the parents aren't that way.

Bigorangebuddy,i'll find the ad,and read it.

Blueticker,i know i'm getting old. That's why i want the dog to do the work.I want to sit on the tail gate, then figure the best way to get to the dog treed.I need my sleep, and don't want to wait a half hour for a dog to mosey on down the creek to get struck two hundred yards from me.If Hambo throws close hunting layup dogs, then i won't breed to him.I hunt creeks that have very little timber along them, and run for miles. Not pecan groves,or feeders.I want to breed to a dog that throws pups that get deep fast if they have to.
I'm more than willing to breed to a male near my back door if it's proven that he throws get in the dark, hard hunting pups.Forgot about Lucy out of Mose.Do you know if lots of his pups have that little extra drive?

I'm not putting anyones dog down with this post.I am asking a simple question, and know what will suit me.Don't want to just raise pups, but will probably keep the whole litter if i find the male i'm looking for.

Uchtman's Zeb
Bodacious
Littlejohns Rock
Mose
Bo Bo
Roscoe
Have been mentioned to me as males that may throw get in the dark quick pups.

Yes, i do, i used to own one. Didnt sell him because i didnt like him just didnt have time to devote to him like he needed. But he's a really nice dog, ask anyone who's hunted with him. Quickest dog i think ive ever hunted with and get treed with meat.

I started hunting jet hounds about 10 yrs ago and I have had over a dozen or so. They dont wor in my back yard unless coon are sitting up around corn fields then they are nice. getting deep is diff. in diff. parts of the copuntry. Here, if a dog wont hunt through creek mile in less then 10-15 mins. you will not make it home before daylight, coon are allways on the creeks but just which section their in is another ball game. I made two drops last night and my hound traveled through 4 different 1 mile sections and he doesnt run by many.

This is why I get on this board a few days and off for months. everybody has the facts including myself.

Most of the Jet line fanciers I am acquainted with would not consider either of those as the place to go for the Jet blood. In my humble opinion Hoosier CC Iron Will is the best Jet bred "proven" stud dog material out there at this time. He also has a proven record of reproducing early starting hard hunting pups. I don't think the same can be said about all of the dogs mentioned here. Roger if you have any serious considerations about putting some Jet blood in your stock I would call Jeff Timms.

P.S. Roger, For the dual type hound you fancy, you could not go wrong with a litter of Rush Creek Oppy pups. He will give you all the go you need, and a little extra chrome to go with it. Just my opinion and that's all.

Tom,

I am dumb but not that dumb.

Of course there are bound to be some lazy ones out of several hundred pups.

I just speak from personal opinion that I have not been acquainted with a line of dogs that has as few lazy pups as the Ranger bred dogs.

That is a fault you almost never see among them.

They've got their faults like every strain does, but that is probably the least common fault in them that I have seen.

I hope nobody perceives any of my posts as a "my dog is better than your dog" kind of deal.

All the good lines of Blueticks have something to bring to the table.

I have hunted with Lewey and some of his pups, and those suckers aren't bashful about knocking a hole in the dark either.

JAGGS

Jaggs, Most of his pups cover ground like they are running a Deer silent, and dont look back for company, they have mouths that will hurt your ears, can drive a track, and have a Coon when they Tree.

All the good lines of Blueticks have something to bring to the table.

no much to argue there
