Local news said last week that demand was down 22 million gallons from same period last year and oil companies ordered more barges for some reason. What part of this statement is untrue and where do you get your information. I know for a fact the barges were ordered.

We have not quit adding daily to our reserves.

While demand may be down across the board it isnt across the world. People seem to think that we are the only ones that use gas and oil in this country. Oil is a world commodity. We could produce and refine out own if the DEMOS and the EPA would allow it.

Article in USA Today

I was reading an article in the 'USA TODAY' in the article it
stated if we tapped into all of our oil reserves..ANWAR, Gulf
Coast and the Rocky Mountains we would only save 3 cents on the gallon. The article quoted democrats and republicans against
drilling our reserves. The article also said that our untapped reserves in ANWAR would not last more than 13 years....so my question is...is this propaganda???? Do we have the ability to be
self sufficient or not?

Jeff, the last solid figures I saw about our oil reserves is that the oil in Alaska and the Northwest alone would run 60,000,000 cars for over 60-75 years non-stop.

Others speculate that we have a 200 year supply in Alaska alone.

Gas prices?

Forget the gas prices below $10 a gallon just let them sell automobiles that get 200 miles or more to the gallon. That CAN be done !

Oh yeah make them retrofit older vehicles and make them cheap. Or better yet make it a "stimulus motor" and give them away !!!! LOL

Seriously though better gas mileage or alternative propulsion is the answer ! Alot of things have already been developed lets make the government help refine and develop them !

Jonah........

I was reading an article in 'Popular Mechanics' there's was a guy
I believe his name was George Rose who invented a system that
set on a cars carburetor and used the fumes off the carburetor
for actual fuel. The article claimed that any gas burning vehicle
utilizing this contraption got a minimum 80 mpg!!!! He invented
this 'vapor burning' contraption in the 70's the patent was bought by the government and it was never seen again....so
my point is if this thing was created in the 70's just imagine the
technology we have today.

Its pretty much common sense. Think about this..that rover they are putting on mars.. Any BP stations on mars yet? One of two things is going to have to happen..either get away from a gas engine..which can be done..or make a gas engine that gets 100+ mpg..which can be done..

Really doesn't matter if we have a 2 year supply or a million year supply. One day there is gonna come a time when the human race will have to deal with the situation. Blame whoever you want to democrats or whatever. Its big oil greed and big oil money.

quote:
Sorry, but that article just isnt true.
Yeah wipe I wrote the story and the Florida Sentinel printed it. I will give you credit though. As Jeb Clampett was finishing up he did flip flop and say yes to drilling. Why should he care? He's gone...

Moratorium on Offshore Drilling (1990)

In June 1990, President George H. W. Bush responded to concerns about preserving the ocean and coastal environment with a directive ordering the Department of Interior not to conduct leasing or preleasing activity in places other than the Texas, Louisiana, Alabama, and limited parts of Alaska offshore until 2000. The moratorium affected virtually all of the coasts of the North Atlantic, California, Washington, Oregon, New England, Mid-Atlantic and the Northern Aleutian Basin. It also included the Eastern Gulf of Mexico off the coast of Southwest Florida, an area extending 700 miles from Baldwin County, Alabama, southward to the Florida Keys.

Bush's directive expanded a moratorium Congress imposed in 1982 that removed 736,000 acres off the coast of northern and central California from leasing for oil and gas exploration and production. The concern for possible environmental damage and social disruption caused by both routine activities and accidents, such as oil spills, resulted in local pressure to prevent these possibilities by removing areas from the lease schedule. In 1998, President Clinton extended Bush's Executive Order until June 2012.

Fox News WASHINGTON — President Bush on Wednesday put his weight behind a move underfoot in Congress to lift a 27-year-old ban on oil exploration off U.S. shores as gasoline prices reach ever higher, and he cast blame on Democrats for Americans' pain at the pump in an election year that is focusing more heavily on economic issues.

Democrats contend that oil interest-tied Republicans are only seeking to expand oil companies' territory, and are ignoring land already available for oil exploration.

"For many Americans, there is no more pressing concern than the price of gasoline. Truckers and farmers, small-business owners have been hit especially hard. Every American who drives to work, purchases food or ships a product has felt the effect, and families across the country are looking to Washington for a response," Bush said, speaking from the White House Rose Garden. He took no questions.

Mentioning $4-per gallon gasoline more than once, Bush said, "My administration has repeatedly called on Congress to expand domestic oil production. Unfortunately, Democrats on Capitol Hill have rejected virtually every proposal, and now Americans are paying the price at the pump for this obstruction.

Now you tell me. Why wouldn't bush blame the dems? Easy way out for him he's outta here end of year....

LOL! Spin it however you want Wingman666, The Democrats have blocked every oppurtunity to do ANYTHING to decrease our dependance on foreign oil.

Bush1 banned exploration, we already knew where the oil was in those areas. Bush2 said he will veto the exploration ban if Democrats lift their blocking of more drilling and refining.

blame-blame-blame will never solve anything period.... drilling alone will not-never create energy independence etc., but increasing domestic production is a factor that should be used, also embracing new technology-supporting it and not trying to handicap it, conservation also very important...domestic production has declined, but not just democrats, also industry planning and operation plays a role... we need strong leadership to triangulate-bring our best minds together to help solve the problem, we have the science-innovation-savy to do this, but lack leadership to move the effort forward.... many great ideas out there, need to put them in practice and not just blame-blame for the current situation, it has been long time coming with multiple reason for it, now time to find solutions-implement same and not dwell in the past by just pointing fingers to assign blame...

I have heard many of these stories of 80 to 100 mpg cars. patents only last for so long, why have these cars not resurfaced. someone somewhere would have built a fleet of these cars to show the world. if I had the technology to build a car of this type I believe I could find a financial backer to help out. not saying it is not true, just show me one

Got this on a email today thought it was kind of funny.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

OPEC sells oil for $136.00 a barrel.
OPEC nations buy U.S. Grain at $7.00 a bushel.
Solution: Sell grain for $136.00 a bushel.
Can't buy it? Tough! Eat your oil!
Ought to go well with a nice thick grilled filet of camel’s ass!!!

Yes guys oil is lower and yes gas is dropping. In Branson ,Mo.
this morning it is 3.71 at our store in Blue Eye, Mo. it is 3.64. Thats down .12 cents this week.
The first thing that needs to happen is get some of these enviromental laws repeeled that cost us about .84 cents a gal. then instead of proposing more regulations that will cost more taxes, like the Democrats have purposed , we need for some of these "spotted owl" laws to go away.
Oil could be $200. a barrel if these stupid inviromental laws were gone gas would come down even more.

Let's cut down on the 20 or so different blends for different areas that the EPA forced Ol companies to produce as well. This adds anywhere from 8 to 20 cents on the gallon depending on the specific blend.

no doubt that regional blends add to cost of pump price, forces retailers to not purchase what is best price, but what can be sold in their area.... industry figures indicate that it only costs a penny or so to make the blended gas over non-blended, extra cost in distribution or is there increased profit potential as well... are too many regs., but only part of the problem....

The last time I checked gas prices in California were more than a penny or 2 different than the national average. Even when oil was at it's cheapest California's average pump price was well over 30 cents above the antional average. They have the most stringent blend rules tpo abide by. Once again, the econ-nuts hit the pocketbooks of the consumers.

not sure about your pt... never said that blends only increase the cost a penny or so only that the additional cost to produce is that amt. the added cost in distribution-marketing, change over from summer to winter etc... are too many regs. that do add to the pump price... no doubt cal. is an eco-friendly state that taxes to try and accomplish that goal... gas is too heavily taxed at all levels of gov't., but taxes are too high period, another indication of need for tax reform-not just cuts directed to whatever group the politicans want to pander to....

Whitepower?? Can you not respond without an attack?

In case you havent noticed the left have attacked this country under the guise of "global warming" and "eco-awareness", just like they did in the 60's and 70's when we had HUGE gas problems and the left then warning of a impending ice age, doom and gloom, etc, etc. With all the fault being blamed on corporate America and big business.

When are we as Americans going to wake up and realize that the left wingers in this country are trying to destroy our economy?? A well known American historian said rcently that Communism has been replaced with Eco-nuts. Same people, just a different path to their goal.
