Coon dont venture very far from their dens either, the more food available, the less they travel. During peek berry crops, they wont move more than a few hundred yards to feed and water before heading home. Ever wonder why so mnay on here mention treeing dens? Coon just dont roam far from home, and will move their den if they really need to travel. With that said, I always use a tracker...cuz my dogs arent always on a coon when they've traveled 5 miles from where I dropped em
For equipment, I use a Johnson Merlin with Johnson collars. Very reliable, and has great range...I wish it were smaller and easier to take to the woods with me but, on a good night I wont even need to take it out of the truck.
nicely put! I want a dog thats gonna get out and tree me a coon, but at the same time i aint turnin my dog loose in this section to hunt the next one if you know what im saying.
