we really need to thank our small local hound suppliers. they tend to have everything we need, and generally undercut the big box suppliers. once you have been in cooning for a while you will find that there is someone near you that has a fledgling supply business. they rarely advertise, no store front. just a guy with a small trailer full of goodies. if you dont know where one is , ask an old timer, they always do. i can think of several around minnesota, and we dont have near as many cooners as most states.

I agree....coon hunting....any tree dog sport is dying on the vine. It's a sport that you are obligated to 24/7 if you do right by your dogs. Folks that leave them in the pen, don't stay in it long. It's work and the majority of today's people don't want to have to do much work. It's a lot easier to climb in a blind or stand and leave whenever you want.

As for #'s....You go to Autumn Oaks or the Grand American and you think the whole world must keep tree dogs. The reality is when you go to one of these events a very high percentage of the tree world is represented from across the nation. When you go to some other hunting show/sale/training you see an equal or greater # in attendance, but it represents a small percentage of those who participate in that sport.

supplies

I am thankful for the suppliers we do have.In southern ohio we have 1 were you could buy anything you need for coonhunting except the gun. Many different brands of lights, trackers, shockers ,feed shots ,boxes etc etc.I support them rather than order from cabelas, basspro and others.

Normally, when someone makes a remark to someone concerning "coonhunting" your very likely to just get a weird look and a raised eyebrow. The general image of coonhunters isn't good. All the blatant tresspassing, piles of beer cans thrown out where a truck was parked, late night shooting up near someones house waking them up, loud dogs in the pen keeping the neighbors up, and stuff such as this takes it's toll on the image of coonhunters. Not all us coonhunters behave this way. However, enough do to really stir up some stink in this world. Were not really looked upon as good citizens is what I'm getting at. Sad but true.
