....I think we all need to be careful... you never know how what you say will be taken... For instance... here I am a tiny 40 plus yr old woman... not too trashy... Got about ten realy polite Irish roofers here... I walk outside happen to pick a shiny clean screw up off the ground and yell up to these fine gents.. "Anybody want a good screw" TOTALLY seriously... I had NO idea what I was saying... I was REALLY talking about the screw... you should have seen these poor guys trying SO hard not to laugh. I saw one looking like he'd faint... thought about what I said and CRACKED up.. they all laughed and when I called my hubby to tell him I was Crying and laughing!

YUP... gotta think before speaking, typing etc....

NOW... we all need to clean up our Minds! LOL!

LOL....

... I felt like a MORON! I had these poor men... who were From Ireland... much less RUDE outwardly than your average construction crew here in MA....LOL...
I grew up with male best friends... so I can be a bit Boyish but Not with Strangers! My poor husband laughed Just as hard tonight when I reminded him of it and told him about this thread...

Oh yeah... life can be Interesting..... I'd like to use my brain injury as an excuse for that day...But I can't cause I Really thought it was a Very USEFUL little Piece of metal with threads... that you use in construction... so it was just DUMB!

I figure ill come out and say what is probably on a lot of people who have read this topic mind's, Is it that hard to overlook this topic or do you have to keep coming back to stir the pot? Obviously he has taken cautin in his trapping, and just because some people have had dogs caught in traps is no reason to ban them. Its part of hunting, many dogs have been hit by cars as well should they be banned in all 50 states. If you take your time to know what is going on in the areas you hunt traps should never be a problem. Not just trying to single you out, alot of people do this same thing, or start anything, if you dont like the topic do you have to tell everyone about it? I noticed you have made nearly 1500 posts on this site and can you honestly say every single one of them was about hounds and hunting? Thats all im going to say about it.

On a second note, Trapper4life, congrats with the catch, I wish I really knew what i was doing when it comes to trapping. All i seem to come up with is empty traps. lol

only problem with all this logic is this

has anyone ever had their dogs get OFF the land they started on? Is it possible to know there are traps on the next piece of ground, or the next? OR if the guy who set the traps even had permission. 220 conibears have NO place on dry land!!! If you cant set a foothold to catch the desired animal why set a conibear to kill ANYTHING that comes through?

and no I have anything against trappers in general, in fact I used to trap alot before I started hunting. BUT I didnt set in culverts or fences or anyplace I worried about catching a dog or any other pets.

Congratulations on your catches. Trapping gets in your blood. Beaver trapping gets real fun in the spring when they rut. If you want some real fun go after the coyotes, they'll keep you on your toes. I always put my sets away from the den, it keeps the kits out of my traps and the blankets in them. Good luck in the rest of the season.

I say this- the man said he pet- proofs the traps,is nowhere near a residential area, and is legal. It's also pretty obvious that if he's catching that many coon that size that nobody is hunting (decent) hounds around there. Quite a few coonhounds have been shot over the years, should guns be outlawed, too?

As far as this just being a coonhound site, it's also not a "pictures of your kids, pictures of snowfall, or college football debate" website, but I enjoy those posts, too. If all you're interested in is "UKC registered coonhounds", and your life contains nothing else, why are you on the internet and not in the woods 24/7?

Trapper4life,

If you need skinning and for putting fur up suggestions, Fur Harvester's has a very nice on-line manual at the link below.

http://www.furharvesters.com/

You just click on the manual's picture down on the left side of the page. Let me know what you think.

This also has some good information for anyone who would like to put up coons.

How many of you kill everything you tree? How many trappers kill everything they trap with their coni's?

Seems pretty clear to me what group I'll align myself with. What group can honestly say they practice conservation? Houndsmen. If we want to protect our sport for years to come, the hunters and houndsmen and women should stand as far away as they can from the trapping group.

What does a beaver trapper average for a wage? 10 cents an hour? Dummies!
