You can replace the springs on your traps for a couple bucks each if there coilsprings. If there several years old they probably need them.
Ive caught 25lb coon in 1 1/2's and found them curled up asleep the next morning.
Caught by mistake in big traps, when the leg or wrist is broken it doesnt take much for them to twist out.
BTW, thats the reason for the myth that animals will chew there legs off in a trap. In the days of the mountian men traps came in 1 size and it was for beaver. When set on land or when animals tangled before they drowned, those huge traps broke bones and the leg was left behind when the animal twisted out.
That and the part of the foot that is under the jaws goes numb after a bit. When chewing on the trap the foot can be chewed by mistake if theres enough room between the jaws and base plate. They cant feel it because everything below the trap jaws is numb.
