Do you live around Sumatra? There used to be an older fellow that lived in Sumatra that hunted. I think his last name was Richardson.

I have won 2005 PKC In. state Leader Mouse, 2006 PkC In. state Leader with Prissy, 2007 Johnny Ringo 4th in Pkc Ga. state race, 3rd PKC english Breed race, Senior dog tickett in April, Over 2,300.00 money in 4 mos. Tar Screamin' Rain From Aug, till now I have won 1,053.50 Won Labor Day Classic with 3 cast wins and 2 final 4's and a pup ticket. With all of these dogs in 3 yrs. I have killed less than 10 coons. this shuld tell you that a coon dog--- does not need all the coons you can kill him if he does then he is not a real coon dog------ or not what I want to hunt. My point is Coon dogs don't need A LOT OF COON. Just hard hunting. See you in the woods.

Bud,

I hunted Ivy one year and won the State race with over $3000, and she didn`t get pleasure hunted for over 6 months. Threat hardly ever gets a coon shot to him, but did catch like 40 this year on the ground. I guess he says if you aren`t going to kill me any, I will on my own.LOL

I think that pups need to have them at first, then back off and don't give them one for awhile and see how they react. Mine has seen 4 since january plus a few he caught, but a dog that has to have everyone isn't much of a dog to begin with.

Chris Your right I don't have time to pleasure--- hunt a dog so they need to no what to do. If your dog needs to be pleasure hunted and a lot of coons shot out to them. then you need to Just hide hunt, and let the real dogs go to the hunts.See you at the hunts Chris take care.

Guys this is my opinion and only my opinion, if you want a real dog , shooting coon out aint bad because I never seen many good dogs become a real dog or win big with out killing a coon. You might look good with out killing coon, but I bet they look better if you did and for me dogs have to be in range of 98% or better have a coon in my world. I have no den tree either, coon or slick. The way to look at this , do you work good without a paycheck if not your dog will not coon. I will grant you , maybe I need a coon for myself to satisify me. I would shoot a dog for being under 95% for very long and I only pleasure hunt mostly.

LOL i will agree with that...

I have alot of men building buildings for me... i have learned that knocking one down on top of them don't seem to help.. paying them good does, telling them they did a good job helps.. when your dog does it right petting them up and letting them know how happy you are with them will do twice what shooting a coon will do..

Couldn't you just as easily say "it's called "coonhunting", not "coonkilling"??

That's what my boyfriend tells me when I ask why we've been sitting in a tree all day and I've yet to see one ****ed deer... "that's why it's called HUNTING not KILLING!" Food for thought.

i think you have to look at it in 2 different ways, finsished coon dogs rarely need a coon, young dogs just starting out cant shoot enough out to them imo.

Well there should be plenty of coons with nobody shooting any out anymore. And dogs like to have coons shot down, I like dogs that love coons and have never done anygood with a dog that didn't care for coons. But I am glad to know that I am the only person that shoots coons in the entire US.

i kill them in the fall/winter. and sell the fur. it pays for most of the gas i use. now for the people that live down south where the fur is not prime. i don't think that you need to shoot a ton of coon out. in the summer i try to shoot a few out to them. just to fire them up even more then they are.

i;ve heard this saying a few times "if your dog needs every coon shot out to it that it trees, your shooting the wrong animal at the tree"
