A "TRUE BREEDER" WHETHER THEY OWN A STUD OR THEY OWN A FEMALE IS A BREEDER THAT LOOKS AT WHAT THE QUALITIES THAT THEY HAVE GOT IN THE DOGS THAT THEY HAVE, AND THEN LOOKS AT THE QUALITIES IN WHAT THEY WANT TO HAVE, AND THEN LOOKS FOR WHAT THEY NEED TO GET THE QUALITIES THAT THEY WANT.

A "TRUE BREEDER" ISNT AFRAID TO GO TO SOMEONE ELSE'S KENNEL TO GET WHAT HE/SHE WANTS IN THEIR KENNEL.

A "TRUE BREEDER" ISNT AFRAID TO PROMOTE WHAT NEEDS TO BE PROMOTED.

A "TRUE BREEDER" ISNT AFRAID TO CULL WHAT NEEDS TO BE CULLED.

A "TRUE BREEDER" IS SOMEONE THAT YOU CAN CALL UP AND ASK, I'VE GOT THIS AND I WANT THIS WHERE SHOULD I GO TO GET IT.

A "TRUE BREEDER" IS SOMEONE THAT IS NOT AFRAID TO TELL THE GOOD THE BAD AND THE UGLY WHEN ASKED ABOUT THEIR KENNEL AND WHAT THEY ARE PRODUCING.

A "TRUE BREEDER" IS SOMEONE WHO IS NOT AFRAID TO OFFER ADVICE TO ANYONE THAT MIGHT NEED IT.

WELL, THAT'S ALL I CAN THINK OF RIGHT NOW.

Fellow 4, has stud and has done the research on his stud, and only breeds females he hunts with and believes will benefit the breed, after researching them as well

Most definately the right choice in my opinion.
And not just the female owners make the decision. My dad isn't going to let a female be bred to Looser he doesn't think won't make a coondog. He said he would rather breed to 20 females who he knows Lose will cross good onto rather then 100 females who the pups won't be coondogs. Well shouldn't you guys think of the people who are trying to start out. You have to buy your first couple of hounds somewhere dont you? I agree with you John D. 100% as always you nailed it .

Just another opinion but, I personally believe owning a stud has nothing to to with being a breeder. The breeder of record is the owner of the female at the time of breeding. There is a reason for that. The influence of a male can be across hundreds or thousands of pups. The infuluence of female is much more limited. I have both owned stud dogs and bred outside females and my own. The part of that I consider breeding is in owning and producing dogs for generations by the choosing of what male to breed my female to. I could breed them to my own stud or someone elses but the true test is, do you keep a female from your own production to carry own the next generation. I am proud of the studs I have promoted in the past but the part I consider true breeding is in owning females from generation to generation for 35 years and hunting their offspring and choosing the studs they will be bred to to produce the next generation.
