A cell phone should be on vibrate of private. I like at least one person to have them when I am on a cast. Lost of snake, holes and you don't know what medical problems a guy might have. The rule states no conversation between casts, good rule should stay that way.

Unless I missed something it is OK to call between casts as long as scores are not discussed. So don't go trying to scratch people for cell phone use. Yes cheating can be done with them but most use will not be for cheating. For safety reasons they should be mandatory on a cast.

If I got a hott lady friend callin me bc she's after me when the hunts over... then I best be able to talk to her LOL!

On a serious note, I believe the only way to control cell phone use would be to restrict for use only during TO or emergencies!

if people were honest it wouldnt be an issue. I carry mine just incase of an emergency of i get lost. I.E in wannamingo last saturday night a judge left a whole case of people in a real big piece of woods, one of the cast members was 17, what happens to him if he gets lost?

HERE ARE THE SIMPLE FACTS AND THE RULE:

If it is determined that cell phone usage between casts is taking place with any sort of reference to scores, those parties involved will be dealt with under the Inherent Rights & Powers of United Kennel Club and may be barred from one year up to life.

SO, YOU CAN CALL AND TALK TO YOUR BUDDY ON THE OTHER CAST.

YOU CAN CALL AND SAY WE TREED 3 COONS, ONE HERE, ONE HERE, ONE HERE. DONT SAY SCORED, TREED.

AND NOTHING CAN BE DONE UNTIL YOU CALL AND SAY OUR SCORE 250+ WHAT IS YOURS.

THEN IT CAN BE A PROBLEM. BUT JUST BECAUSE YOU SAY YOU SCORED 3 COONS, DOSENT MEAN YOU GOT PLUS POINTS. YOU COULD HAVE TREED A POSSUM AND GOT MINUS/SCRATCHED. YOU COULD HAVE GOT SCRATCHED FOR THE HR RULE.

MY PHONE STAYS ON ALL THE TIME, I STAY AT THE TRUCK. BUT I STILL USE COMMON SENCE, AND RESPECT. IF I LOOK AND SEE IT'S KEITH, KEITH LIVES IN MORGANTON, THERE IS NOTHING STOPPING ME FROM TALKING TO HIM ABOUT THE SCORES OR ANYTHING.

IF PEOPLE WOULD USE COMMON SENSE AND NOT TRY TO FIND A WAY TO BEND OR GET AROUND THE RULES, IT WOULD ALL BE SIMPLER FOR EVERYONE.

WHAT ABOUT MARINE BAND RADIOS AND CB'S? TWO PEOPLE ON THE SAME NTCH CAST #1 IS TALKING ABOUT WHAT'S GOING ON IN THE CAST, MEANWHILE JOE BOB ON NTCH CAST #2 IS ON THE SAME CHANNEL LISTENING IN. HE WOULD KNOW WHAT SCORES WERE, WHERE THEY WERE HUNTING, WHERE THEY TREED, HE COULD EVEN LISTEN AND WHEN THE LEFT GO IN BEHIND THEM AND TREE THE SAME COON.

WHAT IS UKC GOING TO DO THERE? GO AROUND AND COLLECT CB'S AND MARINE BAND RADIOS BEFORE THE CASTS LEAVE? I THINK NOT. AND DONT THINK THEY DONT GET USED BECAUSE THEY DO.

Cell Phones

Christy said it right. You can talk on the phone all you want, as long as you dont metion SCORES. A guy tried to scratch me one night for talking on the phone. My girlfriend that was 75 miles away had called me and I called her back after the last drop of the night was over. All we had left to do was tally up scores and sign the card. He made a problem out of it just because I was winning/had won the cast I guess. Some people will do anything to get a win.

You are right, nothing in the rules allows a judge to scratch a dog or handler because they talked on there cell phone. Talking to your girlfriend while competing on a cast may be the worst possible example of bad manners but it isn't scratchable.

YOU CANNOT SCRATCH FOR TALKING ABOUT COONS TREED.

UNLESS THERE IS A SCORE MENTIONED, HOW CAN YOU?

THERE'S NO WAY TO KNOW IF THEY HAVE 650+ OR 225- IF THEY DONT MENTION THE SCORES. THE OTHER PERSON HAS TO ASSUME THAT THEY "SCORED" THE COONS, BUT THE COONS MIGHT HAVE BEEN "TREED" DURING TIME OUT AND THEM NOT EVEN HAVE A SCORE. OR THEY MIGHT HAVE "TREED" 3 THEN GOT SCRATCHED ON A POSSUM.

IF SOMEONE SAYS WE ARE SITTING AT 225+ ON ONE COON, AND STILL HAVE 45 MINUTES LEFT TO HUNT OR SOMETHING TO THAT NATURE, YOU CANT SCRATCH THEM AND THEY CAN GET BARRED.

BUT YOU CANNOT SCRATCH SOMEONE FOR TELLING SOMEONE ELSE THEY TREED 3 COONS ON THE CAST TONIGHT.

YOU CANNOT GET A LEGITIMATE SCORE OUT OF THAT SENTENCE TO BE ABLE TO CHEAT BECAUSE ALL YOU CAN DO IS ASSUME THE COONS WERE SCORED AND NOT JUST TREED.

Most "cheating" that is presumed to be done from cell phone usage is "to come in with a higher score" If someone intends to cheat this way its not to hard to make sure you have a better score.

3-coons most possible = 675+

so the cast asking "makes sure his score is more"

see what i'm saying.

YEP. AS LONG AS A PERSON IS REPECTFUL ABOUT USING THEIR PHONE AND DOSENT DISCUSS TO ANYONE ELSE ON AANOTHER CAST PARTICIPATING IN THE SAME HUNT (OTHER THAN SOMEONE ON THE SAME CAST ABOUT PICKING THEM UP OR SOMETHING) ANYTHING ABOUT SCORES, THEN I DONT SEE A PROBLEM WITH IT.

BACK TO WHAT I WAS SAYING ABOUT THE CB'S AND RADIO'S THERES NO WAY TO STOP THEM, BECAUSE ALL THEY HAVE TO DO IS TURN IT OFF AND SAY, WELL IT'S NOT EVEN BEEN ON.

A potential call to the club house a few minutes before the time deadline to find out what it takes to win. The other cast members had scratched with most of the hunt time gone. Before they left appointed a good buddy to finish the cast as the judge. With just a few minutes left that big score comes strolling in with the winner. It's happened, I see this as a big problem.

That's a problem that will never be stopped. There is no logical way to stop it simply because you have the driving between hunting spots to contend with... it's easy to monitor useage during hunt time, but what about the spectator that is hanging back from the cast on the phone? or the guy whos calling in his truck while driving to the next spot?

I feel the only way this problem can be resolved would be to really come down hard on those who are caught using the phone to relay scores. It's simply not feasible to completely stop or regulate the use of cell phones in today's world.

People need to take a lesson in playing by the rules and being fair. In a sport like competition hunting with hounds, the only way it can work and be fun is if people learn how to be honest and play by the rules, not bend them...

That happened long before cell phones were invented, i saw it myself. I have 4 children that all drive, If my phone rings I answer it no matter what. I also have a job that requires I carry it 24-7. Cheaters will cheat no matter what you do.
