We mainly hunt big game Walker... non of the hyped up bloodlines in our main dogs.... They suit us the best for the cat hunting we do... They have the nose we need, the speed we want, the game drive we desire, the tree power to hold it and the locating ability needed in the thick Oregon forests. And the brains to be able to run it all. They are also versitile enough to go south east and hunt in the dirt, cliffs and totally different terrain that they grew up in with minimal adjustment time.
We also have 1 bluetick and I will soon be bringing home another to try... I LOVE a good bluetick.. Many we have hunted with locally just don't have the brains and speed we like. The 1 bluetick we do own has it.. The only frustrating thing with her is sometimes she likes to use ALL of her other senses first and brain last.... But that can also be a good thing when my walker are standing around saying "No way are we doing that" the bluetick normally piles right on in...
I have hunted with Black n Tans, redbones and plotts and have not enjoyed the ones I have hunted with for various reasons... Not saying there aren't any good ones out there, because there are.. I just haven't been lucky enough to follow behind them. The ones I have chased have been slow, lack of nose, brains and had too much grit towards the wrong things...
