My predictions for 10 years from now.

At least half of those coonhunting now, will have quit. Myself included. it will mostly be due to the aggravation of trying to go. We're one more Obama away from losing a lot of existing freedoms. Just last week a sheriff deputy stopped me and told me I need to let "dispatch" know when I was going coonhunting.

Instead of 10 dogs at a nite hunt, there will be 2-5. One cast of reg. and one cast of NtCh's. Sometimes only one dog will be entered in a category. There will be a lot more "cheap" titles and when one dog shows up, sometimes it will be handed a win because the one guy that's running the club won't have a guide or judge available to put on him. Nobody will care about a Ntch, GrNtCh title or the Top Rep. lists since a lot of the dogs on it, got there cheaply.

Big money Comp. hunting will have moved to "pens" since most areas of the country will not be safe or legal for man or dog to turn loose, or laws prevent it. The fat cat mafia owners that have crept into money hunting can sit in an Air Conditioned lodge and watch the hunt on monitors. They can eat, drink, smoke and bet big money on their favorite dog without putting on a pair of boots or owning a pair of overalls. Not exactly coonhunting, like grandpa did it, is it?

Some areas of the country that have vast areas of public ground will still accomodate dogs that go hunting and tree real, live, wild coons. But these kind of dogs will no longer be what wins in any existing KC. It will be an odd collection of throwbacks and antiques that still do it this way.

Sorry to be so bleak, but might as well find a fork, because if it doesn't happen in 10 years, it definitely will in 20 or 30....

I'm not sure what hunting will be like in 10 years as that will go by pretty quickly. Having said that, I'm pretty confident within the next 40 years, 80% of your free casting coonhunting will be done on public hunting ONLY.

I say that because most all of the private hunting is being swallowed up at an ALARMING rate by deer leases. Trophy Deer hunters are some of the most GREEDY people in this great nation. Now if I have stepped on some toes by this statement then look yourself in the mirror and ask yourself this; When was the last time you found somebody hunting on your leased land, (without written permission) that it did not cause your blood pressure to esculate to the point that you felt the need to walk up to these folks and give them a piece of your mind about them having the nerve to walk on your LEASED land without your permission.

I say to this SHAME ON THEM ALL!! If all of our neighbors would have treated us that way when we were young. We would have never continued with the sport of hunting.

A high percentage of us hunters grew up with hunting being a part of our family heritage. Most all of our local farming neighbors would allow us to go hunting on their land, (written permission or not) and allow us to enjoy the wild outdoors that they were part ownership of.

Today many of those farmers have died off, the farms are being bought up by the big money men who are leasing out the hunting rights to the deer hunters to help pay for their investment. Where does that leave the average Joe, who is trying to raise his family and can barely pay the rent on a house, put food on the table, and cloth their children, let alone even think about being able to purchase additional land that he and his family may enjoy for years to come.

It leaves 80 to 90 % of these hunters having to trample to public hunting areas, one on top of the other until those coon populations are so very thing that you wont be able to hit but 1 or 2 hot tracks in a week of hunting.

All the while the Deer hunters will still be baiting their deer with corn, and killing 15 to 30 coons off each corn pile, and complaing about how much corn the coons are eating. I go back to making it ILLEGAL to bait deer, coons or turkeys, and you wont have the expense of feeding those coons.

So where do I see coonhunting in the next 10 years?? I will probably get a ticket for being captured on a trail camera retreiving my coonhound from a tree beside of a corn pile, out in the middle of nowhere. OMG Please Pray for Me!!!

more like 5 years

I will most likely be done in the next 5 years because I will have no where to hunt. Between the coal mines and logging and land owners no longer allowing hunting I am losing spots almost weekly. **** shame

Man! What a bunch of Killjoys!!!!!!!

I can guarantee that this cantankerous ole pain in the butt will be fight'in every step of the way to keep my hunting rights. I will drive 150 miles if I have too!

I plan on taking my last breath in the woods whether it's legal or not!
