I live in Boone, which is about 15 miles West of Ames on Hwy 30...

Most of our hunting is along the Des Moines river.. I still go down to Woodward and hunt on my Grandfathers farm about once a year or so... the new owners aren't ready to let someone go hunting on a regular basis but don't mind every now and then.

Boy now you two would make a pair...Chip and Grummitt on a hunt together...I want to be at this one, I will come along for the ride. Just to let you know Chip that Grummitt is my nephew...I always like to let anyone that might go hunting with him that he likes to go in the hills...oh and if you do get together, have him show up early and grill you and your new wife some chicken, so she doesn't always have to cook, he does a good job just remember this one little hint...your grill will never be the same again...LOL...I had him grill chicken outside last year at Christmas time it was so cold and windy that he had my gas grill so fired up that it was on fire and it hasn't worked since!! All kidding aside you would have a good time with Grummitt and he really is a good cook...sorry for letting out your secret Grummitt but the last time I responded to one of your posts you threatened to not cook me anymore chicken, now I am going to have Chip help me out...LOL. Chip those are some good pictures, I always enjoy seeing those old pictures, it also shows how long coonhunting has been in your family blood. Sorry I couldn't make it to your wedding, but I want to wish you and your wife the best for the future!! Hope to see both of you at some of the events this year.

Looking forward to seeing you and the family this year...I always had a good time when Stacie and I were hitting all of the IA events, there are a lot of good people to see when you get to a show, I spend more time visiting than watching the show...boy that was a dumb statement...LOL...see ya soon.

Sue

Chip,

My father-in-law lives over toward Lake View, we were up there visiting last Feb. If we ever get that far north again I'd like to hook up and turn a dog loose.

Blue Iron, anytime you get out this way feel free to look us up. We usually have a hound or two to turn loose. It seems like I hit the hunts hard for a couple of years and get burned out so I take a year off. I always keep a good hound around, and love to go pleasure hunting.

Tooter,

I think your granddaddy was right. There is deffinately a difference in the hounds of back then and the hounds we hunt today. Hope you enjoyed the pictures.

this is too good to miss, count me in....

Its not sammy I'm worried about, it is Trish. She might get loopy on cactus juice. lol I can't handle her when she is straight, can't imagine her on the "juice".

Maybe we will see you all at the winter bench show in webster city next month.

Nice Pics!!!

I remember when my grandpap used to nail his hides to the side of the barn (like the pic you showed). Hunted with carbide lights, and a shotgun to shoot the coon. He'd kill 200-300 coon per season, and never had any use for a registered hound until he quit hunting, and started to show dogs in his later years. He's been gone for coming on 20 years now.

Those pics bring back some good memories. Thank you!

yea, I still have my Grandpa's carbide lite, my dad always used a coleman lantern, the kind with two mantles. He cut a folgers coffee can in half to use a a deflecter. My gradfather used a single shot 410 and my dad used a single shot rifle, dad later bought a 22 that had a clip. I enjoy looking at all three of them in my gun cabinet.

The hounds may come and go,,,, but the memories stay fresh forever.
