Todd

You are right about dogs being snuck in here and there along the different lines of dogs. Bottom line is a crook is a crook and they will find a way to get what they want done, whether it's switching papers or something else. I am on the third generation in my breeding program and have owned or regularly hunted with both parents of the crosses that I make. As far as outcrosses, there are plenty of lines within the six breeds so that there should be no reason to go outside the breed for so called "hybrid vigor". Melanie, I have no problem with you or your dogs, if they work for you that's great. I understand why you want to have papers on your dogs, it does make it easier to keep track of things. If everyone was honest I believe it would be a great idea. The sad truth is there are a lot of liars and crooks out there and this just seems like one more "vehicle" as Todd put it, for them to get papers on a dog. It doesn't matter to me one way or the other I guess. I will continue to hunt the dogs that I hunt because they do the job for me. I strongly believe in line breeding so I won't be breeding to or buying any single registered dogs anyhow. To all of you that do own single registered dogs or are going to single register dogs, if you like what you hunt that's all that matters.

Well said Kevin, couldn't agree more. I plan on using my dogs for breeding as long as I can. Maybe one day I will be able to say that I had my 7th generation born in my kennel as Hellcat can. I just want to see the paper trail in case my memory gets bad LOL.

I am just hoping that some system can be set up so big game hounds can be single registered without the same requirements of a coonhound. If not I guess I will travel to find a MOH and hope Brisco finds a coon before a cat of some sort for his inspection.

Get a hold of Nikki a.k.a. blackheadedwalker, I don't if she is a master of hounds or not but she would know who is in your area. Also she would have an idea where to look for a coon over there. I have hunted with her in Oregon on a couple casts and she knows about coon hunting. If I were you I would contact her and go from there.

I start most all of my young dogs on coon. if i can get them going hunting, checking dogs, treeing a little (or a lot), and making the furr fly on a coon then hogs usually can come pretty easy If you have bred the right kind of dog. Most all good big game hounds can (or could have) made a pretty good coon hound. Very few good "coon hounds" can cut it in the big game world.

there isn't anyone in our part of the world with any cat dogs. I think that is something i'd like to try that no one around here does. (bobcats that is)

never hunted hogs with dogs but i find that hard to believe. you cant tell me a hog is harder to smell and trail than a coon
