Nowhere did I say anything against or for bird dogs! I said that the percentage of bird dogs that turn out to be something is much higher than coonhounds!

It is just supply and demand. I raise both English Coonhounds and German Wirehaired Pointers.

People looking for bird dogs have more money. There are fewer litters of bird dogs compared to the number of people that want one.

Your average bird dogger is a little naive about dogs compared to your average hound dogger. Many people looking for a bird dog think the more they spend the better pup they will get. Well that can be true or false depending on which pup you pick, just like hounds.

With a poor bird dog you can still have some success in spite of the dog. With poor hounds you don't go to too many trees.

The faults in bird dogs can be corrected to some degree by training. With hounds we don't do much training. You are stuck with what the dog inherited.

Just be glad that hounds are not priced like bird dogs. I could not imagine paying $1000 for a pup that turns out worthless.
Kyle

Right there is where you are implying that coon hounds are better than bird dogs because more is asked of them. That is why I posted about their ability and training. Each field has different qualities that make them great, and when you have a dog that is good at either one, that's even greater.
