i had minused her track and tree but they didnt know that before the possum was seen, so instead of having the possiblity with an argument i decided to take her out. i felt two young men already had a bad night thinking they nailed that tree. why mess it up when they are just getting into it!??!poor judge? yea i guess , but i feel like i used the honor rules , maybe not the rules but want to think more the honor. am i blowing ????!! NO just trying to state everything isn't cut and dried but just try to do whats right for hound and handler. >>>>>>>>>>>>i will admit ,thinking abiut the during milking this morning its kinda like you dumb knot you are in two hunts all year and you take your dog out without giving her a chance to get her cast win.. she's good enough but oh well people(most anyway) are more important than even the best dog!!!!

it was'nt me that it happen to in a hunt But I have sat and watch it happen to alot of newcomers like myself both in hunt and in Show . when I first started out showing there was a few that helped out and I will give then credit where Credit is due Thanks to Gary Welch , Troy Hout ,James Terry, Jackie Carpenter, Perry and a few others but there was those also who just made it down right discouraging at times to . I have alot to learn when it comes to hunting and I'll admit that also and I get frustrated alot cau8se I wanna learn and yes nite hunt also I'm not afraid of getting cut up ,bleeding or anything else .
Im alittle bit tougher then some think LOL
I just know that when I was growing up we were taught to help others learn what we already know and to be honest and helpful not rude and crude

Good sportsmanship is like a candle that is quickly burning out. Yeah there used to be a bright flame, that would light the whole room, but now its just struggleing to stay alive. Good sportsmanship as you know has to start with YOU. Do unto others as you would have them to unto you. There is always gonna be cheats, and such in this sport. Man has to do something to cover up his dogs short comings. You just make sure your doing your part and light a new candle.
In ten years from now dont forget the old timers that took you to the woods as a young man, dont forget the wisdom they past on to you. Every one talks about taking a kid hunting, and i agree its the future of our sport, but you want to see someone eyes light up, and a smile a country mile wide, then take an old timer hunting. someone that loved the sport, and did everything they could at one time. Someone that hasnt been in several years due to just being forgotten about. Now there is a good time. One rule of thumb is. Shut up. Just shut up and listen. forget the dogs they will be there, just listen to the stories this person has. Listen to how they talk to the dogs and alot to themselfs. you will find out that coon hunting has roots deeper than you could ever dream. You may also find the true meaning of coon hunting. Its not breeding or haveing a world champion, its not my dog is prettier or better than yours. Its about being in the woods with your dog and some good friends. Treeing a coon is supposed to be the iceing on the cake.

I AGREE completly! The older folks need to be taken right along with our future coonhunters. I also agree with all of you on the competition and sportsmanship. It is really sad that there are a few handlers/owners that cannot behave themselves long enough to hunt together. I wish there were alot more hunters/handlers/owners that would have "Backbones" too. If you know the rules, have a backbone. Dont let some one walk all over that younger kid just gettin started or that female that wants in on your sport. Come on guys, we are the only ones that can make a difference.

Don't get your shorts in a wad, I'm just kidding.....(I think I'm kidding.)

I am kidding. There are a few honest competetion hunters that are honest, have character, and integrity. Not all comp. hunters are crooks, and not all pleasure hunters are honest.

Blue Angel, coonhuntion is a wonderful sport that many have enjoyed for many years, and there are many wonderful people involved in our sport. You need to get connected with the right kind of people, and tune out the bad. You will make it.

Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Mr. Common Sense. Mr. Sense had been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape.

He will be remembered as having cultivated such value lessons as knowing when to come in out of the rain, why the early bird gets the worm and that life isn't always fair. Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you earn) and reliable parenting strategies (adults, not kids, are in charge).

His health began to rapidly deteriorate when well intentioned but
overbearing regulations were set in place. - Reports of a six-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school! for using mouthwash! after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition.

Mr. Sense declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer aspirin to a student; but, could not inform the parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.

Finally, Common Sense lost the will to live as the Ten Commandments became contraband; churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims.

Common Sense finally gave up the ghost after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot, she spilled a bit in her lap, and was awarded a huge settlement.

Common Sense was preceded in death by his parents, Truth and Trust, his wife, Discretion; his daughter, Responsibility; and his son, Reason. He is survived by two stepbrothers; My Rights and Ima Whiner. Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone! .

If you still remember him, pass this on; if not, join the majority and do nothing.

Seriously,

I just came off a week of hunting for some big dollars in another registries World Hunt.

I can honestly say that I witnessed an entire week of sportsmanship during that hunt. Six nights of hunting, not a cross word heard. Handlers actually helping each other get up out of steep ditches...."he/she did a great job" when a competitors dog treed a coon off to themselves, right down to risking life and limb to get dogs out of trees that they had climbed after Ricky!

It's not dead! You can only really harvest sportsmanship when you cultivate sportsmanship. I honestly believe that if you go out with a chip on your shoulder and the "kill em" attitude, that is what you are going to get in return.....

I HEARD A STORY 1 TIME WHERE A CHURCH WAS LOOKING FOR A PREACHER, THEY STUMBLED UP ON THIS YOUNG FELLOW THAT HAD JUST GOT INTO THE PREACHING MINISTRY, THEY ASKED HIM TO COME PREACH, SO THE NEXT SUNDAY HE CAME MET EVERYONE AND THAT NIGHT HE PREACHED THE MOST AWESOME SERMON THEY HAD EVER HEARD AND HIRED HIM ON THE SPOT. THE NEXT SUNDAY HE CAME IN AND PREACHED THE SAME SERMON AGAIN,THEN THE NEXT SUNDAY AGAIN AND FINALLY THE CONGREGATION STOOD UP AND SAID ALL RIGHT PREACHER THE FIRST SUNDAY IT WAS GREAT THE NEXT SUNDAY IT WAS OK BUT YOUR PREACHING THE SAME THING THIS SUNDAY THE PREACHER LOOKED OUT ACROSS THE CONGREGATION AND STATED WELL WHEN YOU START APPLING THIS SERMON TO YOUR LIVES AND LETS START DOING WHAT "GOD" WANTS US TO DO INSTEAD OF WHAT WE WANT THEN WE WILL MOVE ON ..

WE CANNOT DO ANYTHING GOOD WITHOUT "GOD" WITHOUT GOD IN OUR HEARTS AS OUR PERSONAL SAVIOUR THERE IS NO GOOD..

I feel that "sportsmanship" is a fitting title for this comment. To set the record straight, I am on the Board of Directors for TSCHA. It recently came to my attention that a former member of the Board, and a person who I once considered to be a friend, has decided to relay a personal email sent to him by me. I am not now, nor will I ever be, the spokes person for TSCHA. I apologize to other Board members and those who remain members of the General Membership for anything that was written out of context; howver, I do not apologize to this person for the truthful opinions I said. we pulled off the road the other night fixing to unload on a managed area ..guy drives by about 75 yards drops his dogs out they tree he shoots then leaves ..i guess i was raised different what happen to common sense you dont do people like that just gripes me

Ever heard this one? When I go to a hunt and lay my money down, I don't have any Friends until the cast is over!! When this is said, don't expect much sportsmanship to be shown. Amen Oak Ridge!!

i have been on hunts where if the other guys dog wasn't on the tree he would not even throw his light and help look for the coon. And some will turn their light on bright and just shine in one spot. I have even seen one guy put his light on the coon and cut his light off and never shine the tree or say he found it. the way i look at it....thats the same as cheating. sportsmanship is fading fast. i always do all i can to see the best dog win the cast. Sometimes its me and sometimes its not. If you learn to be a good sportsman the wins will come. Just like i was told yrs ago....take your minus and the plus will come.
