So do you not run your dogs out of season?

Does Kansas not allow it? You’ve got me hocked on reading these updates, you can’t quit ha ha

Harvest season ends Feb 15th. Running season starts March 1st. The warden has checked me like 16 times in the past 5 years while coonhunting. Its normally during early fall when he checks me but I don't risk hunting during closed periods.

I don’t blame you

We can run them year round, but our kill season ends 2/28 in Tennessee. That’s quite a bit of interaction with the warden. You must have a reputation, ha ha.

Not sure about the reputation. I hunt several nights a week. The warden is out about every night during September-- November. Were on a first name basis and most the time he doesn't even check my permit. Hunted for years before he showed up and was never checked. Reputation about like Mr Turnbow.

I was just wishing I had your reputation Bob. Many go through life attempting to do our best. Treating others like we want to be treated. Some realize they lost their good reputation a second to late. During a coon hunt this happens at times.

The running season opened March 1. Tim brought Chief & John up to hunt. I took Luke & Reb. First drop Luke went in 430 yds. and treed a double. Chief was 500 yds south on a big oak but we couldn't find a coon. Next drop they tree a coon around 500 yds. We walk the pups in to see if they could tree one. They worked around some big oaks but never treed. We saw a coon and squalled it out. The pups ran it good but never treed. Next drop Chief & the pups worked a track over 3/4 mile to a beaver hole. Luke had split off and caught one in a thick grown up drainage ditch. Next drop they put one in an old house. Last drop Chief treed a coon right at a mile and Luke was 400 yds past him treed on a coon. Tracking didnt seem all that good. Cold weather hitting tomorrow for a few days.

Glad you’re back out there

I believe the game wardens in TN only care about deer hunters. I can’t even recall seeing their trucks except at their office building I drive by daily. I also usually hunt on private land, so I’m sure that is a factor. My uncle tells stories of the old days when the wardens worked hard to catch coon hunters breaking the law around here. The way he tells it, they set at the end of his driveway and followed him to the woods back then, lol

Before the warden we have now you would hear shooting about any night in the fall. He has slowed the night deer hunting down. Dont believe he cares about coon but if your hunting coon you best be legal.

Eddie and I took the 3 littermates. First drop they strike quick and get treed at 150yds in short order with a coon. Next drop Luke gets treed at 650 yds. The girls tree quick with him, coon seen. Next drop they strike around 300 yds. Luke slips away and trees 100 yds right handed, coon seen. We sent on where Luke goes .75 to a road and we gather him. Abby comes to the road. We grab her. Bonnie goes over a mile deeper to a highway. Were waiting to keep her safe. Last drop they strike after going .8 mi. A good track for 300 yes. Dont know what happened but they didnt get treed. The gyps head west and circle back toward us. Abby falls treed at 280 yds with a coon. It was a little cold and the wind was getting stronger. Sure enjoy hunting hounds that trees coon when you walk to them.

Tim text me that Kate scored 650 in the Aurora RQE won her cast.Treed 3 to herself. Guess she won the hunt. Congratulations Tim & Dalton.

I've been hunting a few nights the past week or so. Coon treeing has been good. I'm not sure why but catching a coon or two on the ground most nights. Tim and I hunted Bonnie & Kate tonight. We ended up treeing 3 trees with coon. We didnt catch one but Luke was at home.

Hunted with Eddie Green last night. He took Abby and I had Luke & Reb. First drop they struck quick & treed at 250 yrs. We couldn't find the coon so we sent them on. Luke doesn't mis very often so I made a second check of the tree after the hounds left, coon seen. They went a mile through the section and we gathered all three. We sent them on a small creek next drop. Abby & Reb took a track away from Luke. Luke was working around a pond. Abby took the track 300 yds or so to a hole. Luke had joined them and drifted out. He got treed 150 yds deeper with a coon. Next drop they struck around 600 yds and treed a coon. Eddie headed home and I turnt loose on one I had seen along the road. I normally dont turn on road coon but thought it may fire Reb up. I let the coon get a head start for a few minutes. It was 600 yds to any woods. They lined it out 300 yds sw, then 500 yds ne to the woods. They made a loose then headed north for 680 yrs then 500 yds west to an old barn.

Tim was up with Kate & John, I took Bonnie & Annie. First drop Bonnie & John drop in 360 yds and tree a coon. Next drop they all open around 300 yds and Kate gets treed just past 400. It takes Bonnie awhile to cover. I was a little put out with her. If there going to me too I want them to get it done quick. Next drop they run a good track a couple hundred yds and tree a coon. Next drop Bonnie gets treed 130 yds with a coon. Last drop Bonnie falls treed around 500 yds with a coon. We head in around 11. Just over two hour hunt, 5 drops, 5 trees with coon.

Scott brought Sadie & LJ up to hunt. I took Luke & Reb. Tracking didnt seem all that good. The hounds opened a few times and treed on two. Sadie had the first two & Luke just treed on the last two.

It's been a few days since an update. It was after 10 PM when I loaded Luke & Reb. Reb has been a little disappointing on treeing but seems to be a decent track dog. I turnt Luke loose five times. He treed five trees with coon seen, one den tree and a burnt out combined left in a field. Luke went from 140 yds to .72 miles to get treed. Luke isn't perfect but he does tree coon.

Tim was up last night with Kate. I hunted Bonnie. The girls treed 6 trees with coon and one possum. They hadn't treed a possum in a long time. Hope it's the last one.

Steve & I hunted last night. Steve had Maggie & Roscoe, I hunted Luke & Reb. First drop they struck around 400 yds and ran in a swamp for a couple minutes and treed a coo. Next drop struck a coon around 900 yds on a big creek. Took it to .69 miles to a hole. Struck again at .81 and treed a coon right at a mile away. We drove within 50 yds of them. Next drop treed a coon around 200 yds. Next drop went in 700 yds circled a big swamp and returned. Next drop 550 yds treed a coon. Had a couple turnouts late that no coon was treed. We did tree one other coon late. Roscoe is figuring out he needs to tree .

I haven't hunted much the past few months. We have managed to get Kate, Maggie & Abby qualified for UKC. I would like to get Bonnie qualified. I sure have enjoyed the cooler temperature. The past few nights of coon hunting has been enjoyable. The Irene x Rebel female is looking good. I call her Irene.

I've been hunting a few nights a week. Coon treeing is good but will get better when the beans are harvested.
