John-you said your hunts have been up and down-we had one of those last night-same big old bright moon-other than that about perfect conditions. 4 blue dogs and 3 amigos. Reject and Annie crossed the creek and put one up a big oak--I took an extra leash and managed to make it across a log without taking a dip. While this was going on Kate and May Flower treed deep NW up the creek on what we consider the right side, which just happens to be the side we had turned out on. In my second attempt to persuade (Nice way of saying it) the dogs to swim back to Bubba and Bobby on the opposite bank-the head to my light went in with the dog. I had barely made it over with the aid of a light--I did end up wet but felt better when we found the next coon up their tree. This morning I put chest wadders on and armed with a rake I found the head to the light--of course that meant recrossing the creek again. Hey that,s coon hunting. It wasn,t the first time-show won't be the last. I was mad as a hornet but would have laughed the loudest if I had fallen in too! We always remember the real good hunts and the real bad ones -right?
HEHEHEHEHEHE!!!!! Funny Stuff.

Water was cold--deep too!

Reoccuring theme down here--go hunting-dog(s) cross creek--I get wet. Did not think it was affecting me-When I started across the log I took the phone out of my pants pockect and put it in my utility shirt (fatigue to nonmarines). When the phone fell out- the water was clear enough that I could see it when it came to rest at the bottom-barely but there she laid. Stuck the tally hoe stick next to it and held my breath while running my hand down it and came up with the phone--don't know if it is ever going to work again. 40 degrees while this was happening--water felt a few degrees south of that. Boots are on the driers and clothes are drying out, still messing with the phone but could not get the hunting light to work and the charger appeared not to be working either. How could this be-the light worked fine after spending the night under water and now it goes k-put. After a couple of expletives of which I have since apologized for-I discovered that the jack and the charger were both unpluged-back to bed for me and no operation of heavy equipment. Thinking about turning loose tonight over at that real shallow creek. Oh yea, the tree was hollow after all of that!

Sounds like you need to find a different spot to hunt or start shoting all those coon that cross that river. Is this the same spot you told me about when you had to cross and get reject?

I was hunting last night and got poked in the eye with a stick good thing Patch and belle were treed. Got a picture of Patch before this happen and I had to leave the coon in the tree. It was hell getting out of the woods. Joe

Ed Mead

Ed had 3 stints put in today-was told everything went well and that he was sleeping-may get to come home as early as tomorrow if there are no set backs. There may be additional procedures performed after he gets over this. I'm sure if you will make your feelings known to him -that Ed and his family will appreciate it. He has certainly helped a lot of us including me and to me he is truly one of our greats. If you feel the same way then by all means find a way to let the man know it.

I've met Mr. Ed several times but wouldn't say I know him real well. He made it a point at Bluetick Days to come shake my hand and congratulate me on mine and Brummy's win. That really meant a lot to me. You won't find a better person anywhere. Will you shoot me his address C.W. so I can send him a card?

Ed

Spoke with Ed by phone this afternoon-he sounded great and is determined to bounce back strong as ever. Few more things to get done before he is off to the races-but he definitely has the right attitude. Told him alot of people were asking about him. Have made some crosses lately and have a litter here if any of you are interested in this breeding. Linebred Super Jet 6--the sire is a littermate to Reject and the dam is a littermate to the All Jazzed Up female. She had 9 and raised 9--some are spoke for. They are weaned and I would prefer they go to hunters interested in this line of dogs--you won't have to break the bank to get one. The ones that stay here I will start working with--that is usually when I get attached and become selfish. O yea-dog swam the river the other night!!!! Just think and I was gripein about crossing a little old creek.

Rainy Night in Georgia

With the forecast kinda of gloomy, I took a chance on beating the rain last night-glad I did. Took young dogs with the idea that I would be able to get my hands on them a little quicker if and when the bottom droped out, which is usually right after the leash is unsnapped. There is nothing wrong with my young dogs necks--they know how to bend them up. Struck hot-which can be good and well you know--got treed quick on this rainy night. Not one but 2 possums up the tree-took them off and they repeated-hot track and treed again. Thought here we go-first time they have treed possums and now it is turning into a habit. Fortunes turned in an instant-2 coons were looking down upon all that commotion-watching me petting dogs. My mindset changed from -what are you doing out here to one more turn out-I never say quick-cause you stay out all night then. Drove over to a spot that I hoped would produce the desired results-and sure nuff bam and I'm looking at another possum, but one of the pups has a track going -so I cast the other towards her and this turns into the race of the night. Now I'm thinking are they running a coon ?when they both change over to that sweet sound. The tree is small with vines and that is what they are treeing on-so I'm wondering if it is another slick tail--nope a big coon for here. Total 3 possums and 3 coons-and I beat the rain! Yea.

Little Hunt

C.W. sounds like you had some fun..I got to go out last night, but for only two drops. Weather wasn't to bad, (damp-Chilly-misting rain). First drop, ran one in a hole. resent and treed about 350 yards, (Big Coon). Second Drop, struck and treed about 420 yards, (big den tree). My new 5 month old pup got a taste, before the weather started turning for the worse. It was beautiful today. hopeing I can go a little tonight before the rest of the bad weather/Winds head this way. TTYL...

Girls Night Out.

We took just the ladys and may flower to night. Lady and her pup Lady Bug. Radar said rain would reach us about 8pm-well I will go ahead and tell you they were right. we knew we had about 2 hrs to hunt and we hunted about 2hrs and 20 minutes. The last twenty we were soaked trying to get back to the truck. On Monday night I squalled a coon out--had it run down the tree-lots of fun for us and the dogs, plus we had a guy along who had never been coon hunting and two more who had never seen it happen-so they got a kick out of it too. I thought it was going to happen again to night- had one run down but turned and started back up. We knocked that one out and treed 3 others. From Friday until tonight that made 14 we have looked at which is OK down here. Watching the weather I know alot of you are catching it as well,we need the rain and deer season in ending-so everything is gonna be all right. Merry Christmas and Good Hunting Everybody!

BBCHA Hunt --3/ 10/ 2012-Roberta, Ga.

Just confirmed our BBCHA hunt again for this year. More will be posted about this later. The Flint River Club has relocated into Roberta about 9 miles closer for me. This will help the club and I for one hope we resume satellite dutys for the Winter Classic in the future. The Winter Classic has been won from this club at least 3 times and I know for a fact that Blue dogs won it twice cause I was along on the cast. A Uhaul had to be rented just to "tote" the winnings back north. Plan to be at the Winter Classic and maybe the Grand American this time. How many of you knew the Grand American began life as a water race in New York State? Much needed rain for our area-now it rains every other day. Tracking conditions improved--come Jan & Feb. start to find out if you have a coondog or just a dog that will tree a coon. Good Hunting-Good Luck & Hope you have a Great New Year!

Glad to hear we're going to do the BBCHA hunt again CW. Also glad to see it has been moved to March. I also agree with you that I would like see Roberta be a satellite club for the winter Classic again.

BEARS!

Middle Georgia's one day Bear season netted 34 Bears -most were harvested in and around the area where we hunt. Greg Wilson's son Seth got a nice one with his Bow. I have a picture on my phone that has managed to survive the visit to the creek bottom--will post after I get techno help with the posting. We have treed two bear and I know other hunters who have treed them in this area. Dwight Hawse from Va. is a Bear Hunter-uses his Tank dog which is out of 6 Again X Gr Nt Ch Glista's Blue Creek Sissy. Tank was the first pup sired by 6 Again-only pup in litter period. He does tree coon too. Saw where a dog out of mine made Nt Ch in Coonhound Bloodlines and called the owner. Ask the guy what kind of coon dog she had made. His reply was a simple-fair! I want to know or I would not ask-but had never been told this right after one just finished to Nt Ch. So I ask him to please explain his assessment of her. He said again-she is just a fair coon dog but she is an excellent Bear Dog! Hey Eric-loved the swimming picture--that is when you tell em-build a fire I'll be back & catch them dang dogs. It's funny -they swim across to tree the coon and then act like they are allergic to water when you try to get them to come back across to you-I will get wet tonight since I talked about it today-waiting on it to get dark.

John I had 5 people here last night to hunt and will say the 2 dogs they brought did all right--I was expecting a little more out of these I am feeding. the garden produces vegetables, the chickens lay eggs and I expect the Blueticks to tree coons-in return I will feed them, water them and haul their sweet little behinds to the woods. I think my end of this bargain is kept more than theirs, but as you said -they are just dogs--that is a Larry Harvey qoute, too! Some of the people on here should volunteer to write columns for the Bluetick Associations--I was president of one and part of the responsibilties of that job was to have a column every month-pretty sure BBCHA still does that but have not seen it by the other group every month in the last ten years-guess we should not take things for granted or is it the people we should not take for granted? We did tree 3 last night. I made the trip across the creek. Made a short round tonight with a young dog-no coons seen but she worked one good track aways and put a tree on it. The only thing louder than her was a train that came by and it did not beat her by much-in the sound department. Happy New Year everybody!

Happy New Year to you CW and all the rest also. Enjoy your post along with the other reports on this page(s). I agree with you on the articles, if you take the job, you know that is part of it.
