I sure didn't know how it was going to go but I pulled out with a good bunch of guys who had some nice hounds, Kitty just pulled ahead. Had one call I wasn't happy about but that's competition hunting, things are going to happen, you just have to roll with it.

I sure appreciate Darin for pointing me towards her and for getting her started off right. I can tell she has had some good schooling while at your place even now. Also to all the others that have owned her. If not for all of you then she wouldn't have kept on task like she has. To me the hard part is all the time and money spent on training a hound and I give the credit to all of you who have hunted her up before me. All I did was finally carry her to a hunt to do something in the public eye with her. She is the first hound that I have put in the hunts I didn't train all by myself. So I know what it takes. Alot of people can handle a hound in a hunt but it takes extra effort to train one right. So Thanks to all who hunted her before me.

It's funny to me how these hounds right around 7 to 10 months just have a switch turn on seems like. Up until then they may be doing some stuff but it's like things start to come together. Also they'll hunt hard but that's when they start ranging out too. Once that starts it's time for the tracking system. Yeah, like I told ya I've had guys that wanted to deer hunt my stuff becuase they are so loud and run so fast and hard but they just won't hardly do it. A few but very few. One hunter stopped by the other day and told me that he was legally deaf but he could hear my hounds in his stand about a mile away and was wanting one. But I told him the same, people have tried and just couldn't get them to run them. Mileage also sounds about right. It was a haul coming up there this past summer I know.

I've got a good friend of mine that's getting in bad shape with cancer I plan to go see Sat. However, if I get time I may just try to make it to another hunt this weekend we'll see. If it goes half as good as before then it'll be well worth my time. Now I'm just itching to turn her loose in competition again. It's sure been a long wait to get back to this point again.

Kitty doesn't mind treeing by herself but she doesn't mind helping out either. First drop the other night she had first strike but thought she might have just been excited so missed that. Then she rolled in there and grabbed one with a bluetick, we saw. Then she threw in with a Walker was checking his tree so she trailed away and it pulled him off, he took minus, and then once she was sure it was right treed it pumping out about 100 + BPM, on a den. Never heard from the bluetick again it took minus. Then we recast them and yet again she struck in pretty quick they went through a bunch of junk walker pulled up again Kitty backed him this time coon was on the outside. She just didn't get one by herself this time. Like I said she don't care if it's by herself or with another she'd getting treeeed, with the meat.

checked the weather down by you. Wish it was like that around here. Its a warm 3 degrees this morning. We might be leaving here Tuesday nite before the Nashville hunt. It will give us time so we dont have to hurry so much. Wouldnt mind for it to warm up a little here. Any finger or other body part that was ever hurt sure freezes up quick. Picking up a male pup out of Jabo to add to our bear pack. I figure he will give Kid Rock a hunting partner and they can make bears climb together. Annie will be the oldest of the young dogs at 2 1/2 yrs. Then With Ciscoe and Dozer there will be almost a complete pack once again. Then we can start weeding out the offcolored dogs once and for all. A friend was over to breed a grade female to Ciscoe. Hopefully she took. I guess she is a top bear dog and he is trying to get her single registered. Take care and dont forget to hollar if you need anything.

Sounds good to me but time will tell. Everything in our cast looked kind of crazy the other night. I don't know if it was the hydrogen sulfide gas floating around or what. The coons acted like they had been dogged to death and were really running. First dump struck in right at us and treed a mile in according to the garmin when we went to go back to the truck, to move. I plan to hunt Kitty about every night this week so I should know something on Fri.

Good talking to you the other day. We got to find ya some females now. You're about to have a real nice group of males up there. Had a good hunt with Kitty last night. Everything went real smooth. We started about 10, coons had quit moving, quit about 12 had a 30 min. walk to a new place for the last drop. Went to were there was some pretty thin coons. Last time I was in there with 2 hounds one of which was a world champ we treed one coon and we started a little after dark. Kitty treed three the first one about 3/4 of a mile in. I let her tree for a good while before I got through the thicket to her.

Figured out after that one she doesn't like the light shining on her while I record. This one was a lay-up.

The last one she treed one I have ran with 6 other hounds that could tree a coon and have never seen him. Saw him last night.
Three trees all dens but all with the coons asleep on the outside.

We've had some bad weather but things are clear for now guess we'll see how they go from here. Took Sister out the other night she was hunting hard. She remind me alot of the ones I have just a little lighter colored. It was non-stop hunting around for things the whole time we were out there. She was out there several times where I didn't see her for a while sniffing around, trying to hutn something up. Kitty went in and treed so she went in with me, was smelling all over the tree but not barking yet. For her first night out at night I was happy with her though. I've been pushing Kitty pretty well trying to keep her primed up and get that NtCh title on her. Once that happens then I'll be back to training pups and should be moved to my new house where I can hunt, literally, out the backyard.

Well been taking Kitty out to where the coons are thin to get her ready for the hunts and it backfired this weekend. Kitty got struck in first, got deep, treed about 2 miles in by the garmin with 5 coons up one tree. We spent over an hour trying to get close enough to her so I could tell what she was doing. The whole time this Walker hound kept running coons about 100-200 yards from us treeing lay-ups. She made 4 or 5 trees before I could get close enough to Kitty to tell she had treed. By then we were still about a mile or better out from her. The only thing we could here was her locate until about 3/4 of a mile in then I could finally here her chopping non-stop. She kept the tree going as one of the walkers with her came back to meet us and the other one was so wore out from treeing she had quit barking. So she, at the point I got to her tree had been treed for well over 30 mins. and is was fairly warm in the 60's. Finally, we got to her after a hour and a half of the hunt had gone by. So the walker hound got first with 725+. We saw 13 treed coon in 1 hr. and 45mins. in open woods. It was sure a show but it would have been more of one if I could have heard Kitty to get to her. She has a good mouth but well over a mile thru timber isn't the best hearing conditions. Guess I'll try again this weekend.

It happens to everybody! Most people just don't admit it! Congrats on your honesty! Besides, it doesn't feel so bad when you get beat by a good dog, or your dog is treed the whole time somewhere else! That's out of your control. It's hard to compete when they're out of pocket! Better luck next time!

Kid Rocks big first big summer. I know he will be doing great but I hope he doesnt get banged up too much. Gonna get a high tech recorder and record every minute of the hunts that I can. He has a little buddy named Hank to go with. Kid is way ahead of most pups his age. Hes treed on bears. Treed his own coon at 4 months by the cabin. Treed numerous chipmunks and squirrels. And treed coon by himself last fall. Sits and watches deer cross the field every week. Hes been loading up in the dog box as soon as he was big enough to jump that high. I couldnt ask for more.You and preston and family will have to try and relax at the cabin here for a week or so. Chase some bear and chase some more bear. Or maybe come and coonhunt. Next fall Im going to try for that 50# coon up north that I always wanted. You guys should start applying for bear tags. My next tag Im going to donate to a young person.

Yeah, not seeing your hound for about an hour and a half tends to lower your score. If I could have heard her and gotten to her then she would have been able to keep up but without being recasted we were stuck. Normally, that first strike and first tree would have been great but it didn't work this time to many coon, to close to us. People at the club said they had never heard of a cast seeing that many coon there in a hunt. Even though Kitty only had one tree on the card she still had 5 coon up the tree. I was proud of her even though we lost. She did exactly what I asked of her. It just didn't work this time. Always the next weekend though.

Just keep me posted. Hopefully, Dozer can join in on the fun. If nothing else he'll make a good kill dog for ya during hunting season. I would love to come up for a hunt. Went out to New Mexico right before I was deployed to Iraq. I found this place all by myself and was setting up camp while everyone else was scouting. Well opening morning, I slept in becuase of working so hard and sure enough my brother went about 300 yards from camp and shot a nice cinnamin colored Black Bear. It was the only one we saw the whole trip.

will be right there with them. I have high hopes for that big guy. He will turn out thats for sure. I sure would like to see when he meets his first bear face to face. With him,Kid and Hank, its going to be something to see. Since starting with the Redbones there has never been a question in my mind wondering if they will turn out. If Kid would have been born a little earlier, he would be a finished bear dog right now. Before he will be 15 months old he will be a veteran bear dog. He is fast that is for sure. Its going to be hard for some to keep up with him. See you in March. Thanks again for Dozer he will fit right in. I forgot to add, Dozer will be a vet after this summer also.

She treed 4 different trees with coon but two were out of time. One was during a timeout and the other was 2 mins. after the hunt ended. First coon they struck out of hearing and treed 3 miles in by the garmin. After that they treed a few hundred yards from us and then she literally split treed 10 ft. from us with a blue dog 20 ft. from us and they both had coons. Then they treed a lay-up behind us on the next drop. With the final one split treed 2 mins. after the hunt. Several red dogs were there, some pretty young, but unfortunately Kitty was the only one to win. Again, I sure appreciate the time others put into training Kitty. A 3rd. or better and a best of show and Kitty will be a NtCh Ch.
