Here is video of a hunt in the high mountains of Webster County at our camp. T was a cold and frosty Febuary night with frozen snow. I have managed to upload 3 mini video's of our last few hunts. I haven't video every drop but these cover all that I have done. I will post the others in the next couple of days... Enjoy, JR

Tonight's hunt

Wasn't so pleasent we made 2 drops 1st drop resulted in a leaner which we couldn't find the coon anywhere so I guess they missed. 2nd drop they stretched a stripper (skunk) lepew.... So our hunt was over after that..... We left Roofus at home its to hard to hunt him on a work night he keeps us out late... Our kill season ends tomorrow night. Probably won't go have bad storms in the forcast and my hounds hve been skunked. I am hoping to be able to bath them and my collars tomorrow in tomato juice...

Roofus has never been after a skunk that I know about. He has never ran a deer I knew about. I did see him tree 1 possem 1 night but his heart wasn't in it and he left when I hollared at him. Most of the dogs on his mother's side have never run junk in their lives.

Sue looked and sounded good. She has a huge mouth she got first strike. She has a little work but once she gets it together she should be a dandy. If fact we will not be selling any time soon. We were very impressed her. She may be a special hound. We want to make sure she gets her time in woods this spring.

We have a dreded trip to the hospital tomorrow. Penny goes in for back surgery she 3 ruptured disc she's been in alot of pain since last September. So pray for a safe operation.

A chilling 18 degrees this morning. At 6 am yesterday I swept 4-5 inches of snow of the back porch and when we gat back home @ 4:30 pm they were another 5-6 inches on the porch again. However the snow has been melting down steadily on the ground. Penny is doing fine she is having some pain and won't take her pain meds but she recovering well and thanks everone for their prayers. Thanks for the Pm's as well..

Here are some updated pics of the Tapps bred pups... Thanks for keeping me updated on them Neil...

Some may think I am crazy for over loading myself with females lately. I done the same thing several years ago I used to keep 15 big hounds. At one point every bitch I had came in heat within days of each other. And yes I bred everyone of them. And ended up with 45 puppies which gave me 60 hounds at one time. I was feeding one ton of feed every 63 days that is fourty 50lb bags. At the time I was trying to find the line that worked. I was hunting Oney, Wilcox, Hardtime, and Alsome bred hounds. Then by the time I found what was working my older dogs started dying in sequence and everything that I had been working for was gone. It took the zap and desire of hunting out of me and I quit for 5 years. Now I find myself in the same postion. I really truley believe that I have the stud that I need in Roofus. I really feel if his pups are given the chance they will make an impact to the English Breed. Not to go against any calls or Pm's etc. But some of these guys just wear you out wanting to breed and etc then when it comes to it they never show up. Now don't take me wrong I enjoy all conversations and thoughts about it all.. And look forward to many more. I am not a saint either I have guys in NC,OH,TN,VA and WV wanting to go hunting with Roofus and I haven't taken the time out to get that done yet but that will change soon...
So I am rounding up females that I feel will make excellent crosses on Roofus. I sure hope it all works. When breeding you never know how that cross will turn out so you take a 50/50 chance on be successful. For any reason that any hound we raise or own don't suit us we will NOT use it in our breeding program. We want to help bring back the hound traits that have been lost over past few years. Our goal is put 100 pups on the ground out of Roofus while he is still alive. Don't get offended by no means if we refuse to breed your female or sale you a pup. We want to be able to breed the right females and sell his pups to the guys that will give them a fair chance. If those reasons offend anyone we are sorry. Our goal is to protect Roofus and the English breed. Any pup that we sell from our own kennel will be backed with a our 1 year guarantee. Our guarantee is as follows. That if your pup doesn't suit you for any reason by the age of one year I will buy your pup back for the purchase price only or replace it with another pup from another litter the owners choice..

And don't forget about our CASH reward program as well which I have reposted it below..

If any pup reaches all mentioned degrees as listed above the total Cash Reward would pay $1350.00 per pup. So Good Luck to all and let the winning begin...

Junior, I like to line breed. I like to stay close to the line that has always worked for me. I am sure Roofus will cross with a lot of lines but I am hoping Kenny will breed Little Nancy to Roofus sometime. That will be close line breeding but I am sure that it would work.

She sure has the loud mouth the line is known for.

The oldest female out of Roofus is gone the minute you turn her loose and you won't see her again until she is under a coon. When she is treed, you can go to town and get a cup of coffee before you go to the tree. Sort of like Roofus wouldn't you say?

I would love to get a video of her and or at least a picture. I am planning on running an ad in this years English Issue of the Coon Hound Bloodline magizine. Roofus currently has 9 pups on the ground. I would love to be able to put a picture of all 9 of them in this upcoming ad. I currently have pictures of 5 of the 9 Thanks, JR

I recieved a sad phone call last night

from my ol' hunting buddy William "BILL" Brown. He called to tell that he lost his best friend GRNITECH 'PR' BROWNS GAULEY RIVER DAN last Tuesday he was just now getting able to talk about it. Dan was the results of a line bred ONEY cross that I made nearly 13 years ago. Dan was the last living hound from that cross. I had 7 pups in that litter and they all have since passed away. Dan was 12 1/2 years old and lived a great life he diagnosed with cancer on his right leg when I think he was around 7 years old. The tumor came back a couple years or so ago and the vet said it would be best to let it take it coarse rather thaen surgery they claimed it would never heal back. This is sad news for me and a few others whats really sad on me I have none of that stran left in my kennel. How ever I am on the list for a great granddaughter to mine and the granddaughter to Dan due in April. Not sure that I will get one but I am on the list. This was the best cross I ever made to date. Bill does have three males in his kennel to carry on the legacy. One of which is UKC and AKC GRNITECH and UKC HTX and the sencond is NITECH HTX with 3 wins towards grandnite. In which both were bred but the youger male of the two lost the whole litter of 10 pups a couple of weeks ago. I understand that our best freinds don't live for ever. But Bill and Dan were really close to each other I can remember when Dan won his 1st nite hunt I believe it was in Clay, WV. Bill was so excited he let Dan ride up front in the seat beside him on the way back home. If Dan had been given the chance I believe he could have been one of the winningest hounds around. Dan was a very classy tree hound that stood straight up belly tight against the tree and never moved no matter the weather or company. He hunted in a big circle 45 mins to an hour. He could be hunted anyway you wanted to hunt from the road, foot or rig. He had it all and was putting it in his pups as well.
Sometimes we as people tend to do things that don't always make alot of since me ecspecially. Back several years ago a short time after making this above cross the pup that I had kept was really cranking and his stomach twisted and killed him before he was a year old. Then Sarge and Joy died which were the Sire and Dam of this cross . That took the whole desire of hunting out of me because everthing that I had worked for was gone. I had several diffenent bloodlines at that time and this was the one that seemed to have cklicked. When one suffers a loss like this it affects every member of the family. But what I have learned with my past experience is coon hunting is in ones blood stream and you either have it or you don't. It took me 5 years to admit that dang it! I had it in my blood. I had sold everything I owned that involved a dog. I mean everything down to the feed pan. It has been a strugle getting back to where I was when I quit not to mention expensive. I now feel I am real close to that turning point. I have what I think one of the best leaders of my Kennel that I could have in which is you guessed it NITECH GRCH 'PR' MADDY GEES ROOFUS. I feel honored and blessed to own him in what I feel is a GREAT hound. I am seeing greatness in his pups. With all that is going on we have decided to keep the 'PR' WEBSTER'S LILL SUE female pup out of Roofus. We will be changing her name to 'PR' PLAIN ENGLISH'S MADDY GEES SUE. From this point on we may use the Maddy Gees name in every Roofus pup we raise so when every one see Maddy Gees in the name of a hound they will instantly know it must be out of Roofus. I hope that that name and the hounds that carry it will represent themselves well in the hunts. I understand that they can't do it from the back yard. I do plan on entering Sue and Blu in some hunts soon. I don't mean to boast this litter in anyway from Roofus' previous litter. But this litter is showing great potential of becoming winners if given the chance. I hear that Roofus has an outstanding female from his first litter that is being used in training pups at two years old and is scheduled to breed to outstanding stud when she comes in heat. Roofus can and will reproduce winners and I am gonna try my best to help prove it. If Sue and Blu continue to progress from where they are now I believe they will be in the winners circle soon. I could type forever but I think I will stop here. I hope all is well in the coon hunting world in all parts of the world and let the legacy live on after all it in an American Heritage.
