Loaded Luke & Bonnie and headed over to hunt with Eddie Green. He only took Abby. First drop 150 yds they blow up treed with a coon. We send on, Luke gets 550 yds left of the gyps & trees. He wasn't real proud of it but treed. The gyps were deep close to a road so we drove around to keep them safe. Abby gets treed, Bonnie covers. Luke leaves his tree and covers. I asked him not to do that again. No coon was seen. We send the gyps on. All three go a half mile and tree, they leave that tree. By now I'm getting a little irritated. We call them in. Next drop they tree a den. We send them on where they go 200 yds and tree a coon. Next drop they go over a half mile & tree a big bob tailed boar. The coon did a pretty good job of hurting the hounds.

After I got home I put Luke up & loaded Reb. Bonnie & Reb struck at 650 yds. They run a good track nearly 3/4 mile. Reb had split off and was over 200 yrs from Bonnie and got treed. He couldn't handle the pressure when Bonnie treed. There was a coon up the tree he was on, Bonnie had two coon. Next drop they strike around 200 yds and treed a coon at 530 yds Last drop they go .67 to strike, the track doesn't go anywhere and Bonnie trees with a coon. I believe Reb will be able to move a track good.

Met Steve for a hunt. Maggie & Roscoe was ready for action. Luke & Reb normally go their own way. First drop they go 900 yds north to a big creek go west several hundred yards & tree a coon. Next drop they travel 1.6 miles in the same section and no coon. Roscoe jammed a deer out of the section but got lonely and returned. Next drop treed a big den tree at 650 yds. Next drop treed a coon at 420 yds. We sent on where they go .61 and tree anouther coon. The wind was picking up and temperature dropping so we called it a night.

I went over and hunted with Jerry last night. First drop we sent Jerry's young dog Rambler & Bonnie. They went in a few hundred yards to strike. Moved a decent track for 5 minutes and treed a coon. We sent Luke & Remi next. Luke goes left of Remi 600 yds and trees a den. We send him on. He goes her direction. They make a mile circle in some big timber where Remi trees. Luke trees 100 yards away with a coon. We send Bonnie & Rambler. They go 3/4 of a mile & tree a coon. Next drop Luke & Remi work a track off a big creek into a corn field. They can't finish the track. They drop the track and we gather them a mile away. Bonnie & Rambler work a bad track well over a half mile and get treed, it was slick. We called it a night.

Tim brought Cory & Marty Mailes for a hunt. We had a good hunt. Kate treed a couple & Luke treed a couple. Treed two together and caught one on the ground. Kate treed one right beside us walking out from the last tree. 8 coon night with slow booticks works for the old man.

Had a crowd that wanted to hunt, Tim, Scott, Cory, Marty, Jeremy, Peyton & Dylan. We did manage to tree 3 trees with coon. Two den trees, two beaver holes, an old house and a couple turnouts over a mile and no strike. A little tough getting coon on the outside.

Scott brought Sadie up for a hunt. I took Luke & Reb. First drop over a mile and no strike. Next drop struck around 200 yds and treed in short order at 300 with a coon. Next drop struck at 550 yds. Sadie got the track out and moved it 350 yds and treed the coon. Next drop Luke returned the favor and treed a coon at 430 yds. Next drop they went over .75 miles. They never opened but the garmin showed like they were smelling one. Luke got off the creek going across a cut corn field. He opened a couple times and shortly after caught the coon. Last drop they went in 470 yds and strike. After moving the track a couple hundred yds Sadie gets treed first with the coon. The wind made it feel a little cool but coon were out and about.

Jimmy was treed the other direction with coon. Preston had school next morning so we went in.

Bob, I guess the weather has improved in Tennessee. Sounds like Kid is ready to win the classic. Hope to see you there.

Tim was up to hunt. We took Luke, Reb, John and Kate. It was raining a little when we turnt loose. We sent into some big flat woods. After 30 minutes and a couple zigs and circles Luke gets treed at .6 from where we sent from. He had traveled over 2.5 miles. Kate and the pups were deeper 600 yds. They went to Luke, coon seen. We debated on turning loose again, we did. They struck around 400 yds. It was raining a little. The hounds move the track steady for 300 yds and get treed. A storm had moved in. Raining so hard you couldn't crack the window to listen. We drove with in 200 yds. It started hailing along with the down pour, wind, lightning and booming thunder. We watched the garmin and all hanging tight for 10 minutes. Then Luke leaves and goes 160 yds the way they ran the track and the garmin showed him treed. We set there anouther 10 minutes before the rain let up. Kate was still hammering, shes a hard treedog. Luke went back to Kate. They were treed up a big Sycamore den. Kate has really been looking good and her tree job tonight was special. We pretty much got soaked and headed for home. First time that I had a dog treed during a hail storm. Wife called and ask if we had enough sence to come in out of a hail storm. She already knew the answer.

Wife

Knows someone has to look after you. I went west to Terry and his girls. They took angel and I had Kid. Cut them and angel treed at 500 and we started to her Kid was deeper not struck. Nearly to angel and she decides to leave. We listen and Kid strikes and trees shortly at 836. Before we get there angel joins him. Coon shot by girls and jumps out and proceed to whip both dogs. Turn again and get in large swamp we could not get to dogs and ended up having to call them in. Girls had school so we all went in.

Tim was up to hunt. He had Kate & John. I hunted Bonnie & Reb. It was 18 degrees. Hounds had to go hunting to strike. First drop struck right at a mile. Worked the track 250 yds and treed on a den. Next drop garmin had them traveling 1.5 miles & no strike. Next drop they strike at 550 yds. They work north, head west 400 yds. Then back south over a half mile to a den tree. Last drop they strike at 600 yds move to around 800 to a dozer pile. Kate strikes a couple hundred yds off the pile. The other go to her and they tree a slick tree. Walking out Kate strikes, they trail 50 yds and tree a den tree. Second night this season for getting skunked.

Phil Davis was up to hunt. We had a decent hunt. First drop Bonnie & Joey struck quick. Pushed it 420 yds to a den tree. Next drop Luke got away from Breez and treed a coon at 650 yds. Next drop Joey gets treed at 350 yds. Bonnie had taken her track to 550 to big water and didnt like the thin ice breaking through. She went to Joey on a den tree. Next drop Luke runs a good track to an old house. Breez trees a big den tree. Next drop Bonnie gets treed at 160 yds, Joey covers. Coon hung up and neither old fella wanted to climb. Next drop Breez trees a coon at 450 yds, Luke trees one at 900 yrs. Phil wants to get headed back to Arkansas before the sleet hits. I put Luke up and grabbed Reb. Bonnie and Reb struck at 220 yds. They move the track good to 868 yds and tree a coon. The sleet had started so I was done.

I met Eddie for a hunt. He had Abby & I took Luke & Bonnie. First drop Abby gets struck quick around 300 yds the others help out and they tree a coon around 550 yds. Next drop Luke goes east 400 yds Abby & Bonnie strikes 240 yds north. There working in heavy over when Luke decided to help out. They get out of the thick cover and start moving good. After about 3/4 mile they stretch it out. By the time we get about to them they strike deeper and get treed. We drive as close as we could but 800 yds of muddy field one way. They were up a big oak. Fog was so bad we couldn't shine the top. Didnt see a coon but Luke thought he was there. Last drop they strike around 700 yds and tree a little deeper. Bonnie was 10 feet on a separate tree. Abby & Luke had a coon. Bonnie had a big oak with vines & the fog was still bad. May of had one but we didn't see one. After a mile of walking muddy fields I was ready to call it early. I sure like this litter of hounds.

It thawed out and rained anouther inch. I was sinking in two inches walking to feed hounds. I was still having leg cramps Monday from a mile long mud walk Sunday night. Guess Scott is headed up to hunt tonight. It's going to be a mud hunt. Four nights left of season.

Scott brought Sadie up for a hunt. I took Bonnie & Luke. First drop we hunted a 600 yd ditch. They went through it pretty quick. We gathered and sent the opposite direction. They went right at a mile and treed a coon. We sent on where Bonnie & Sadie blew up treed with a coon. We sent on where they went over 700 yds & treed slick. Coon setting next tree over. Next drop they went .73 miles and treed a den tree. Next drop 280 yds to a hole. Next drop they ran a good track .6 miles to a big creek. Not sure what happened to the track. We were driving around when they hit the creek and we never heard a bark after we stopped. Luke treed a half mile deeper with a coon. Coon seemed to be moving good. Scott took the pup I had out of Luke home with him. Hope he makes a good hound for him.

Met Steve, he had Maggie & Roscoe, I had Luke & Reb. First drop Luke opens around 650 yds and trees. Maggie opens 200 yds right handed about 30 seconds to go 200 yds and gets treed, they both had one. Next drop Maghie opens at .67 and trees at .62. Luke covers and there was 3 coon in the tree. Next drop they go 1.5 miles and dont strike. Next drop they struck at 230 yds, take a good track around 600 yds and tree the coon. Next drop 204 yds and blow up treed with a coon. Steve headed home. I sent Luke & Reb in a small timber that doesn't get hunted much. 75 yds treed with a coon. Next drop they go through a half mile ditch no strike. Same on the next drop. Last drop Luke opens around 250 yds. I hear him catch the coon at 470 yds. I waited a few minutes and the fight continued. I went to them and I'm not sure rather they were chasing the coon or being chased. Luke eventually grabbed it right and ended the battle. He will have a few battle scars from that big boar. Wind was 20 to 25 mph and it seems like i catch more coon on the ground on windy nights.

Jerry Crain & I hunted even though the weather wasn't all that great. Wind at 20 to 25 mph and temperature dropping. First drop Remi & Bonnie worked a rough track on a big creek several hundred yards to a beaver hole. We sent Rambler & Luke next, pretty much the same result. Next drop the gyps go in 500 yds and tree a big oak but we never saw a coon. Luke & Rambler tree on a learning tree over water. We sent them across the water where they pick up the track and tree the coon at 330 yds. Next drop the gyps tree in about a minute 95 yds in. They had a big boar. Jerry was going to have the pelt soft tanned. Luke & Rambler struck close moved a good track to 480 and treed a coon. May not be tough enough to hunt tomorrow night, the last night of season. I sure feel like Bonnie has made steady progress on coon treeing since season opened. Luke probably has but its difficult to see. Turn him loose and he tries to tree a coon for you. He treed a blank tonight when the coon crossed out over water but he's pretty honest.

No hunting the last night of season by this old fella. Twenty degrees, a sheet of ice and wind was too much. I bet Luke & Bonnie was glad. There pretty hard and need a little weight put on. Its difficult to keep a hound slick and pretty hunting them around lots of cold water and big coon biting around on them. I can promise you they know what there looking for when turnt loose. Bonnie backed a dog on one possum and Luke bayed a beaver was the trash they participated in since season opened. I wish they opened a little quicker on working tracks. Bonnie still backs on slick trees at times. For a 2 yr old Luke is very accurate. They both handle decent but some work left to do. I've enjoyed the many hunts with Tim, Steve, Jerry, Eddie, Matt, Scott, Phil, Jim, my son, Dusty and Jeremy and the grand kids. Cory & Marty made it up a couple nights. I hope they all enjoyed it as much as I did. I thank God daily for giving me good health, a very forgiving wife and the opportunity to coon hunt.
