Cotton

Just won another best of show with Cotton at Tuscaloosa. Finished her with 3 best of shows and a class and breed at Alabama State Hunt. Hope I can get it done tonight in hunt. My buddy and long time blueticker Charlie Schafer won best of show male with his young blue pup out of Logan.

Hunt

Well didn't do any good in the hunt. We didn't have a cast winner. 4 trees but rough undergrowth and couldn't find coons. Cotton had a chance to win it. She split off and came on a tree but it wasn't right. Two other dogs started hot track right beside her in cornfield and Cotton moved off tree and got in on race. When dogs got gone I shined edge of woods and she had coon but he must have been up awhile. I was disappointed. Never seen her move once treed. She looked as bad as I have seen her look in a long time. Well just keep the nose to the grindstone and keep working. Darren

Good looking female with a really good locate!!!That place is just tough to see coons. Really large trees with a privet understory. It wont be long before she is a Nite Champion

Thanks Charlie. She is just a dog and will have bad nights I know. We just gone stay after her. Thanks for guiding us. You put us on coons every turnout, just couldn't see them in that hedge undergrowth. Hope your pup comes on out for you. He has the right tools. Y'all keepem lookin up. Darren

HUNT

Hunted last night for a little while. Turned BB and John Wayne loose first. Been trying to get BB back to normal as I had to get really rough on her for Dillars. She looked good last night and acted like her old self. She went 750 yds and got struck. John opened good with her and they got treed deep. I drove around and John was treeing good with her. Bushy tree and couldn't find coon but proud of how BB is coming back around. Turned Cotton and my pup loose next. Cotton went 800 yds , crossed Yellow Creek and finally got a few barks on cold track around beaver pond. Walked in and called her out at 11:30. Tracks are tough around here right now.

Scott he ain't changed much. He is put together right. Very stocky and has a good head.

Stanly I know it is a day by day process, sometimes we get in a hurry!

Hunt- Went last night for a little while and man it was sweltering hot!! 87 degrees when I went thru town at 8:15 pm!! First drop I cut Cotton and John Wayne loose on creek. Cotton struck almost immediately followed by John. It is a rough place with tall banks and blown over trees and hog wire fencing. Cotton ran coon down creek and took a side ditch that feeds into the creek. the ditch runs along a pasture and soon heard that big dying bawl locate. She hammered tree good and John came in to the tree just before we got there. When he did get there he fired up really good on the tree. Most intense that I have seen him so far. Backed up in pasture and seen coon. Cotton is getting these creek coons figured out. They gave her a little trouble to start but she has done well the last few times I put her in there on the creek.
Next drop I cut BB and Rickett loose down the other direction on the creek. they struck an old track and began trailing down creek. They turned up an old ditch that runs thru a rough patch of cutover and trailed a long ways up ditch. Finally they got close to a mobile home park and I had to catch them up. Called it a night and it was still 12:00 am when I walked in house.

I am tickled to say I acquired a pup that I had my eye on for a little while. He is out of Terry Tibbs Razor and Cotton's momma. This pup was owned by my buddy and family obligations have caused him to take a break. This pup is a natural born tree dog. I was with Matt the first time this pup was taken to the woods at 7mths old. He had seen a caged coon at 4mths old and that is it. this pup crawled up on the tree with Cotton the first time he was taken hunting and blowed the top out. Matt has hunted him one other time and he done same thing, never had his mouth on a coon. I am excited at the potential this pup has for sure. He is not too hard to look at either. He is a good looking sucker with a monster mouth. Good luck to all bluetickers this week and Y'all Keep'em Lookin Up!!! Darren

Hunt

Went for a hunt last night.My buddy that bought Dolly came for a hunt last night. We cut Dolly, BB, and John Wayne. They struck but wasn't a good track. Dogs got split up with BB alone and the other two deep the other way. There was lots of locating and movin on!! Got frustrated and cut Cotton loose about 9:45. Cotton got 600yds down branch and struck track. She worked her track and moved nearly out of hearing. I drove about a mile down road and got back in hearing just in time to hear Cotton let out her locate. She really hammered tree. She was deep and took us a while to get to her. Dolly and John Wayne came in to her just before we got there. Cotton had coon and we got them and caught BB trailing other direction down creek. Cut loose again at 11:45. Caught Dolly and John Wayne crossing gravel road where branch crosses under road. Finally caught Cotton all the way on other side of bottom and never got a bark. Called it a night at 1:00 am. Gone hit it Monday night. Y'all keep'em lookin up! Darren.

HUNT

Made a couple drops last night. Took Cotton and my two male pups and my buddy took Dolly. We cut down the creek and they left hard. They got struck at about 700 yds and Cotton treed backed by Dolly at over a 1000 yds. We finally got to them and they were on a big bushy tree surrounded by privot hedges. Couldn't see the tree. Neither of the pups were at the tree. Stroker was 300 yds down the creek and Blade was 275 in the woods on other side. We got Cotton and Dolly and sent them down the creek the other way. Those two pups didn't care what nothing else were doing. Both independent suckers. Cotton and Dolly worked an old track for a long time and treed on a big den. Finally gathered up the pups and called it a night.

i bet she woud cross real good on the logan dog r ms . guthrie tourch dog he likes one wen of being a duel grand and he has some old utchman in him to. i will say this that old female is put to gether the way i like them if you make a cross put me down for pick on the front end of males keep them old blues looking up darren

Not sure what I will breed her to yet. She has Scout up close and I believe Moody Creek Jammer in there. I will post her pedigree in next couple days. I have a male out of Raggs that has Lincolns Blue Yoakam, old Albert, Hornet, Scout, Northern Blue Levi. Thinking seriously about him. He is a houndy rascal too and is a hard classy, clean tree dog.

Took off last night but gone hit it tonight and see what I can get done. Sure wish I could hit a couple good tracks with these pups. They have both treed good on hot tracks but just cant get after good tracks around here right now. Gone stay after them!!

Well same ole crap. First drop I cut Cotton and my Blade pup loose. Blade went one way and Cotton went the other. Cotton struck in at about 250 yds but it was one of them sorry tracks. Ole Blade came back by us and sort of hung around so I loaded him up. Cotton worked the track down an old slough run for about 400yds and finally got treed. I cut Blade to her and he left out and treed some with her. I got to tree and it was a big wooly sucker that we couldn't hardly shine.Blade treed some with intensity but would get distracted some. Still not bad for an 8mth old pup that has been hunted 3 times and never had a coon shot out to him. He is a natural tree dog. Treed the first time in the woods and seen one caged coon at 4mths old. Next drop we cut BB and Rickett loose. BB ended up coming back and we caught her up, Rickett struck a track and worked it across bottom. It was a sorry track and finally drove around and caught him up. Called it a night. My nephew seen a coon cross the road about a mile from where we hunt at 5:30 pm!! What are them suckers doing??!!
