HomeHSUS response to $100 M Stocks Question
HSUS response to $100 M Stocks Question
Written By: Susan Thixton4-29-2010Categorized in: PetsI just had to ask. The following is the response I received from The Humane Society of the United States when I asked for a list of the companies that HSUS holds over $100 million in stocks in.

Dear Ms. Thixton,

Your question about the securities held by The Humane Society of the United States, a 501©(3) charity, was forwarded to me for a response. Unfortunately, The HSUS cannot provide a list of the publicly traded securities we hold because this could be construed as giving investment recommendations or advice to the public.

Thank you for your interest in our charity. I hope you will visit our Web site so that you can learn about the many animal issues, (such as closing down puppy mills, ending animal fighting and the slaughter of horses for the international horsemeat trade, factory farming and a host of others) we work for on a daily basis.

Irene Ballenger
Director, Planned Gifts
Department of Philanthropy
The Humane Society of the United States

My reply to Ms. Ballenger of the HSUS…

I understand your position that making public the company names that HSUS holds could be construed as giving investment advice. However, on the other hand, withholding that information from the public could as well be construed in a multitude of unfavorable ways. If you cannot divulge the exact company names, could you at least provide a list of general areas of investment HSUS holds stock in? As example, automotive industry stock - 20%; agriculture stock - 20%; and so on. The public does deserve to know this. As well, could you provide a statement as to why HSUS holds over $100 million dollars in publicly traded stock? Comparable national charities such as American Red Cross holds only $2 million (in savings and stock), Goodwill International holds only $5.5 million (in savings and stock). I would like to know why HSUS holds so much more than other national charities.

Thank you,
Susan Thixton

No response from HSUS. What a shame.

Wishing you and your pet(s) the best,

Susan Thixton

"Hunting dogs, often viewed as something like hunting equipment rather than members of the family, are often neglected and abused. They often live in pens or are tethered outside. Dogs sometimes receive no exercise or attention when they are not hunting. Hunters sometimes kill their dogs if they start to perform poorly or never learn to hunt properly."

Hmmmm...straight from the website article....now trying to figure out how to send them my pic(and all the others I have seen) of my hound dog sleeping on the couch!!

And as far as the no exercise when not hunting-I am an obedience instructor and I can guarantee I work with "pet people" exercising their dogs a WHOLE lot less than hunters!

Jacka$$es......

HSUS newsletter to kids raises red flag
May 10, 2010 by Ken Anderson

In Nebraska, officials of Lincoln Public Schools (LPS) have instructed the district’s teachers not to distribute a recent issue of a Humane Society of the United States newsletter aimed at third and fourth graders.

LPS officials took the action after being alerted to the newsletter’s controversial content by Nebraska Farm Bureau. “It contained misinformation about contemporary agriculture,” says Cheryl Stubbendieck, vice president of public relations for Nebraska Farm Bureau. “It clearly worked to advance HSUS’ agenda. It showed pictures and had commentary about factory farms, and suggested that what was portrayed there was the dominant kind of agriculture.”

Stubbendieck says what concerned her the most was that the newsletter also urged youngsters to contact federal agencies to request tougher regulations on livestock production. She says targeting young children is a tactic HSUS likes to employ. “We are seeing HSUS targeting these young people in order to get to them before they maybe have fully developed their critical thinking skills and been exposed to other viewpoints.”

And while the Ag in the Classroom program is also aimed at young children, Stubbendieck says the difference is that the agricultural messages are not political.

“I suppose you can argue any presentation of information has an agenda behind it,” she says, “but we talk more in the Ag in the Classroom about the science of agriculture—the impacts on the economy and society.”

The newsletter in question was the April 2010 Junior edition of HSUS’ KIND newsletter. KIND stands for “Kids in Nature’s Defense”.

Email San Antonio about dog laws

From RPOA Texas Outreach and
Responsible Pet Owners Alliance
"Animal welfare, not animal 'rights'
and, yes, there is a difference."
Permission granted to crosspost.

May 13, 2010
Action Alert!

Please help San Antonio pet owners by emailing the San Antonio Convention and Tourist Bureau to express your opposition to the city's animal ordinance revisions passed in 2007 and the new proposed revisions on the table now. It will only take 5 minutes and will help Responsible Pet Owners Alliance tremendously.

You can copy and paste Talking Points below in the form at:
http://www.visitsanantonio.com/VisitContactUs.aspx
Adapt them to reflect your personal viewpoint on why you will no longer visit San Antonio.

Talking Points:
1) Ironically San Antonio, home of the Alamo, the shrine of Texas freedom, is about to legislate pet ownership out of existence with a proposal to sterilize all animals; prohibit all gifts and sales of dogs/cats that are not sterilized and much more.

2) Our pets are legally our property. Don't Mess with Texas Pets!

3) Two years ago San Antonio passed the most anti-pet ordinance in Texas and is now considering more onerous regulations from radical "animal rights" extremists and Animal Care Services.

4) We will vacation elsewhere until your city becomes pet friendly once again.

5) We travel with our dogs and no longer feel welcome or safe in San Antonio with them.

6) We urge the city to RESCIND Mandatory Spay/Neuter, Intact Dog and Litter Permits, and permits for owning all species of pets and OPPOSE the new onerous provisions.

I had the KIND NEWS thrown out of our school district last year after I provided the superintendent with an enormous amount of evidence of the real HSUS agenda.

The KIND NEWS website has links to other sites and downloadable documents that suggest kids should start animal rights groups in their school.

Here is a link to a "kids action guide" telling kids how to become an activist. The guide even has anti-hunting and anti-fur propaganda in it.

http://www.kindnews.org/mission_hum...ction-Guide.pdf

We wouldn't let al qaida recruit our kids in public schools, why would we let the HSUS do it?

This kind of propaganda should not be allowed in our public schools. It's nothing more than passive indoctrination.

Is it being distributed in your school? Probably, better find out and get it stopped. If you need me to compile info for you to present I'd be happy to do it.

URGENT - send your protest NOW

Monday night at 7:00pm ET (4:00pm PT), CNN will air a special, entitled “Jane’s Fight For Animal Rights.” The show will feature animal rights activist Jane Velez-Mitchell speaking with representatives from H$U$, In Defense of Animals, Sea Shepherd, Farm Sanctuary, and Mercy For Animals, hardcore animal rights groups, every one. It will also include special guests Bob Barker, Pierce Brosnan and Jorja Fox of CSI.

These radical animal rights groups are being given an unprecedented FULL HOUR of television to spew their garbage, with NOT ONE MINUTE allotted to those who know the truth, that the goal of these groups is to end to our relationship with animals. We have less than 24 hours to let CNN know that their biased and unbalanced reporting is not acceptable, and to demand equal time be given to the opposing point of view. Also known as the TRUTH.

If you value your dogs, birds, pets, don’t want to be vegan, don’t want zoos closed and even more, believe in your right to own them, go to http://tinyurl.com/26nkkvm. Scroll to the Comments section at the bottom of the page and tell CNN your opinion of their decision to air this show. It’s a few minutes out of your life, but it could make a huge difference to your future with your animals.

We broke our legislators’ fax machines over AB1634 and it worked. Now it’s time to flood CNN with our opposition to this program. Don’t let your rights be dictated by elements of the lunatic fringe and clueless celebrities.

Do it now! Click here... http://tinyurl.com/26nkkvm...scroll down, type a few words and hit send.

I cannot explain link

I WAS able to access
http://tinyurl.com/26nkkvrn
to access
http://bennyhollywood.com
I posted a comment twice.

I'm not computer savvy enough to understand how it works.
I DID find a contact link for CNN from a listing in SMALL PRINT that says "Contact US"
http://www.cnn.com/feedback/forms/form11b.html

Maybe Buckshot can give us some clues about all of this. I found a download that's supposed to fix drivers for computers with Microsoft Vista (which is what I have)wanting to access "tinyurl" - but I'm not brave enough to mess with the diver on my laptop - too easy to get a virus or really have an expensive mess for my computer techs to fix.
We might need some expert input on accessing these sites.
