Tramp 11 and Gin

Took Tramp out for a run last night. We went up the river a ways to a place where I use to hunt his ole dad from time to time. Turned him east up the swamp. He went in about 500 yrds and struck a cold track. It was an old feed track. He trailed the coon south and made a circle and came back toward me a ways and then headed back east again and treed. I moved to about 250 yrds of where he was treed and walked on in to him. He was treed up a large oak den tree. I shined for a while to make sure that he wasnt on the outside, he had made it home. I leashed Tramp and came back to the 4-wheeler. We moved on up the swamp aways and turned Tramp into the swamp headed south. He went in about 300 yrds and struck a good track. I knew that he was getting into a rougher part of the swamp where there is a lot of water. He moved the track on in a couple hundred yrds and treed. There was an ole woods road headed in his direction so I went down it until I came to where a slough crossed it and it looked deep, so I left my 4-wheeler there and found a place to cross and walked on in to Tramp and I was right there was a lot of water in there. I made it to him and he was treed up a large water oak. The tree went up about 25' and the top half of the tree leaned real bad. I knew this was some of the work of Katrina. There was also some big oaks still laying on the ground in there that had been clay rooted by the mighty storm. I found the coon pretty quick laying on the forks of a large limb. I walked in and petted ole Tramp some and we headed for home.

When I got to the house I put Tramp up and fed him, loaded Gin up and headed back to another part of the swamp. The first drop I turned her down a small branch thar ran through the swamp. She went in a couple hundred yrds and struck a cold track. She worked it in there a few minutes
and got it straitened out and started moving it back up the swamp. She had started moving the track pretty good, but she was headed into some bad country that I didnt want ti get into this time of night, so I picked her up on an ole woods road that she was crossing. We moved back down the swamp a ways and turned her into an ole slough bed that was almost dry. She didnt go far and struck a hot track, moved it on in about 100 yrds and treed. I walked in to her and she was treed up a pretty good sized gum tree. It was pretty thick in there I shined a few minutes and didnt see anything. I walked back under the tree and shook a vine, and then walked back out and found an opening where I could see the top of the tree and there he sat right in the top. I walked back under the tree and petted Gin and we headed for home.

Chris with Tramp and Gin

That siatic nerve has come back to visit me. It seems to come back about every 8 months to a year and when it does I'm usually down for about a month, at least thats the way its been for the past couple of years.

Chris and two of his boys came by last night and picked up Tramp and Gin and took them to the swamp. Chris Said he had a very good hunt. I wasn't there so I can't give all the details, but Chris said that the dogs struck and made 2 trees pretty quick and had coons in both trees, but the third coon was a different story. He took the dogs for a spin around the swamp, through a lot of water and through some rough country, but the dogs did a good job on him and treed him up a big oak tree in next to the river. Chris and the boys walked in to where the dogs were treed up a large oak and shined for a little bit and didnt see anything, but when Cole hit that Squaller a big coon looked at them with both eyes from way up on a big limb. They petted the dogs up and headed for the 4-wheeler. Chris said that he and the boys had really enjoyed the hunt and both dogs had done a good job on all three coons. Thank you Chris and sons for working these ole hounds for me. I really appreciate it.

NERVE

Mr. Jack I'm sorry to hear your nerve is acting up and got you down. I know rest is about all you can do for it until it gets better. Glad Chris and the boys can get your hounds out some for a good round of hunting. Sounds like they did as good as anybody could want a hound to do, 3 for 3. Rain is moving in tomorrow they say and when it does I will give you a call and see if your up for a visitor and some dog talk. Take Care and keep that heating pad on high and if you need anything just holler.

Chris with Tramp and Gin

Chris and his two boys came by again last night and picked up Tramp and Gin. They went up and picked up Clayton and hunted up there behind Claytons house. Turned the dogs loose and they went in aways and struck. They worked the track a ways and the dogs splitup and both trailed on in a ways and treed about the same time in different directions. Chris said both dogs did a good job and both dogs had a coon. They made one more turn out and the dogs struck a good track and moved it on in a ways and treed. They went to the dogs and they were treed up a large Magnolia tree. These are ever green trees and chris said he believed the coon was there, but they could not get him to look. They petted the dogs up and called it a night. Thank you Chris for hunting these ole dogs for me. I sure appreciate it.

Get well wishes

Thanks To all for the get well wishes. The doctors say they will have me back huntin in a short time, but right now its a job just to get to the back door. I hope they are right, we'll see. This is not the first time that I have been down with this Siatic nerve. The last couple of times it took about a month to get going again.

2015 Purina National Championship

I received Tramp 11 invitation to the 2015 Purina National Championship the other day from UKC. Tramp earned this elligibility by winning 1st place at the Mississippi State Championship. The Purina National Championship will recognize and celebrate all the coonhounds and their owners who won top honors at all State Championships in 2014. As if the camaraderie and Prestige of this hunt was not enough, The folks at Purina offer a grand total of over $7000 up for grabs to its winners. The hunt will be held in Salem, Illinois on May 8 & 9, 2015. I would sure like to go, but Salem, Illinois is a long way from Oakvale, Ms. and right now I'm down with this Siatic nerve. We'll just have to see how things are going when the hunt time gets a little closer by. Whatever happens I sure appreciate UKC and Purina for giving Tramp and me the opportunity to go and compete in this hunt. It should be a great hunt.

Congrats

To you & Tramp II on getting the chance to hunt in this. Hope you get the chance to make it up & your nerve issue gets cleared up. Lots of coon & flat hunting in Salem area. If your health don't allow you to come, just send Tramp up & I'll make sure he gets his chance to hunt in it & then get him a ride home with someone from Bluetick Days. Take care, Ron.

Congratulations on the win, and this prestigious opportunity to compete in this highly acclaimed hunt. I sure hope you get to feeling better, and are able to make the trip. You did a great job with Tramp, and are doing a good job with his offspring. You both deserve the opportunity to compete. Good luck, and God bless!!!

Mr Jack

I hope your feeling better. I have had that same nerve issue since I was 19 and had a round of it a couple of weeks ago. Get better and I hope you can get up to Salem for the Purina hunt. That would sure be nice to see Tramp win it. We have had cold weather here and I have not been able to get out all of February but am planning on going to Ashland to the BBCHA Spring hunt so I am hoping we get a break in the temps soon. Take Care of yourself and Good luck with your hounds.
Scott

Thank you

guys for the congrats on Tramp. I think he will be ready to go, but me, might be a different story. Even without this back problem I have gotten to where I don't travel good anymore. Just the thought of a long trip like that makes me shutter. Thank you Ron for the offer to help. That was real nice of youand the reason I don't send Tramp up there has nothing to do with you, because I know that you are a good dog man, but to send Tramp up there would be like putting one of my kids in strange hands. I'm sure you understand, but Thank you for the offer to help, it means a lot to me. -----------Jack

Congratulations Jeremy and Shadow

Jeremy and Chris took Shadow and Tramp and traveled up to Forest, Ms. to their 2015 Dixie National Championship. Shadow won his Nite Ch. Cast Friday night, but another Nite Ch. cast came in with a better score. Shadow won his cast again Sat. night and this time he was high scoring Nite Champion. He missed out on winning the overal high scoring dog by 25 points. This was Shadow's third Nite Ch. win. Chris said Tramp did good, but they didnt win anything.

Gin and Doll 1V

Chris came by last night and picked up Gin and went up and picked up Clayton and Doll 1V. He said the coons didnt seem to be moving good, but they did manage to tree two. The first one was a cold track the dogs worked up an treed. The second one was a good track and they ran it and jamed the tree on it, but he said that the fog was so thick that you could only see about halfway up the trees. Chris said they would probably get after them again tonight.

WEATHER

Mr. Jack this weather is going to be frigid the next couple nights again. 85 yesterday and high of 38 today. I saw a cotton mouth moccasin in the yard on edge of river Tuesday evening. This cold should run them back in the ground for a few days. Hope your getting better and able to get around a little more. Take Care.

Tramp, Sheba & Doll V

Chris came by last night and picked up Tramp and Sheba and went on up and picked up Clayton and Doll V. Chris said they had a good hunt and the dogs all did a good job. They made 3 trees and saw the coon in the first two trees and the third tree was a Den tree. After they
made the third tree they came back and put those three up and picked up Doll 1V and Claytons puppy and went back out. Chris said that they hit a good track and treed it and they looked at this coon also. After this tree they decided to call it a night. When Chris brought Tramp and Sheba home we sat out on the back porch and talked for awhile. While we were sitting there talking I could tell that the wind was picking up and the temperature was dropping. 80 degrees yesterday, 33 degrees and raining last night. I think maybe its suppose to get up to about 35 degrees today and windy and raining. I think the chill factor suppose to be about 20 degrees today. This Mississippi weather is something. Take care.

Congratulations Jeremy & Shadow and Chris & Tramp

Jeremy and Chris decided to split up last night, so Jeremy and Shadow went to Ovett, Ms. to their UKC hunt. Jeremy won the Ch. part of the bench show with Shadow. This win gave Shadow his 4th Ch. win so he only likes one more win on the bench to be a Grand Show Champion.

Chris Took Tramp to Meadville, Ms. to their UKC Slam Event. Tramp won his cast and 3rd place. The top 4 dogs in these hunts receive a 1st place win. So this win finished Tramp to A Nite Champion with three 1st place wins.
