Tramp 11 and Gin
Took Tramp out for a run last night. We went up the river a ways to a place where I use to hunt his ole dad from time to time. Turned him east up the swamp. He went in about 500 yrds and struck a cold track. It was an old feed track. He trailed the coon south and made a circle and came back toward me a ways and then headed back east again and treed. I moved to about 250 yrds of where he was treed and walked on in to him. He was treed up a large oak den tree. I shined for a while to make sure that he wasnt on the outside, he had made it home. I leashed Tramp and came back to the 4-wheeler. We moved on up the swamp aways and turned Tramp into the swamp headed south. He went in about 300 yrds and struck a good track. I knew that he was getting into a rougher part of the swamp where there is a lot of water. He moved the track on in a couple hundred yrds and treed. There was an ole woods road headed in his direction so I went down it until I came to where a slough crossed it and it looked deep, so I left my 4-wheeler there and found a place to cross and walked on in to Tramp and I was right there was a lot of water in there. I made it to him and he was treed up a large water oak. The tree went up about 25' and the top half of the tree leaned real bad. I knew this was some of the work of Katrina. There was also some big oaks still laying on the ground in there that had been clay rooted by the mighty storm. I found the coon pretty quick laying on the forks of a large limb. I walked in and petted ole Tramp some and we headed for home.
When I got to the house I put Tramp up and fed him, loaded Gin up and headed back to another part of the swamp. The first drop I turned her down a small branch thar ran through the swamp. She went in a couple hundred yrds and struck a cold track. She worked it in there a few minutes
and got it straitened out and started moving it back up the swamp. She had started moving the track pretty good, but she was headed into some bad country that I didnt want ti get into this time of night, so I picked her up on an ole woods road that she was crossing. We moved back down the swamp a ways and turned her into an ole slough bed that was almost dry. She didnt go far and struck a hot track, moved it on in about 100 yrds and treed. I walked in to her and she was treed up a pretty good sized gum tree. It was pretty thick in there I shined a few minutes and didnt see anything. I walked back under the tree and shook a vine, and then walked back out and found an opening where I could see the top of the tree and there he sat right in the top. I walked back under the tree and petted Gin and we headed for home.
