Meeting

It was an absolute pleasure meeting you as well Mr. CW. Sorry I wasn't able to hang around and speak much we were pushed for time. White Boy didn't look great but managed to tree a coon. I would still like for us to get together soon and see what the old blues will do. Good hunting and be safe.

Old Photos

Hope you enjoy seeing photos of these old dogs and even old people. What may be old to you may be relatively young to some of us. As I have said before our history is not that old. We were separated and declared a breed in 1946. Each year we lose a few more of those individuals who were hunting back then. If you approach these people with respect they can share with you a wealth of knowledge about our sport as well as life. This sport has changed a lot over this short period of time. We should be able to enjoy it as much or more than they did back then.

If you have any old photos share them with us here. If you have problems posting them let me know and I will try to help. Good hunting CW

Rowdy-On my Face Book page under C W Eldridge, Jr. Send a friend request if you like. Ken Herman is always posting great old photos and I want him to share them with us on here.

Need to dig through more of the older pictures and come up with shots of hunters and dogs some people have never seen. Mr E K Malcom's son and I just became friends, Mr Malcom, who was from Madison, Ga. owned Sandy Creek Warrior. I am going to dig thru some of the Mountain Music Magazines for ads and articles on him for his son.

Feeling sad today. Received a letter concerning the Reunion. Looks as if the Reunion is going to get messed up again. Shame, shame. One of our best hunts and most successful over the years. Profitable too. The Associations do not need a contract to put this hunt on, just an agreement of understanding and cooperation. Over the years each association has been guilty of messing the hunt up. The Reunion is designed to bring us all together not to create division. John Vanderbeck and I signed an agreement to protect the Reunion and so we thought prevent this very thing from every occurring again. History is bound to repeat it's self and it appears to be happening once again. Sad indeed. I hope that things will get worked out and we can all benefit from the capable leadership entrusted to our present officers. After all that is what you took an oath to do!

Hello CW

Just don't understand why the two clubs don't join together. What the heck is the difference you have the southern bred bluetick hounds (blood lines) in the north and the northern bred hounds (bloodlines) in the south. They are all intertwined. So why not join together become a bigger and stronger club so that bigger hunts can be held. We are in a new day and age and if we don't join together and protect what we have coon hunting will be a thing of the past. Just think of the nice bluebook we would have. Just my thoughts and opinion.

Iv heard people mentionin joinin the clubs before. I thought it was a good idea at first. But the more i thought bout it the more i think competition is best. Like business. Each one of the club wants to top the next. And bbcha is independent from registries. While bboa is strictly ukc. Im a member of both and dont mind payin 2 dues. Honestly i prefer bbcha. Just my 2 cents. But i havent been in this long either. Lovin the history lessons.

Good to see you at AO for a short visit. After looking at this pic, I sure wish I would have brought Anne (GRNTCH Jo-anne) over for a joint pic with Jack, as he is the probable dad of her litter of pups planned for this winter. I stopped by to talk to the Minn. Ed, but never did get that done when he was at the campers. I still plan on a trip north to hunt with him & Jack this fall, so maybe can get one then for you to post. Take care, Ron.

They did it by being Bluetick Coonhounds--not acting, sounding or doing anything like a Walker either. (I despise seconded handed attempts at compliments from Walker folks saying-that's the best Blue dog I ever hunted with.)

In direct opposition to that train of thought I feel we could have more success if people were concentrating more on maintaining distinct lines. I invite you to weigh in on this regardless of your opinion(s). To people who simply want to have a winner on the end of their leash, all this other stuff does not matter. Some in their efforts have actually gone so far as to breed to different breeds-that is known as hybrid vigor. Some have indicated that-because none of the Bluetick lines have done it before, they cannot be expected to do it in the future. Think about it, collect your thoughts and then respond if you wish. A constructive exchange can benefit us all or at least get you to perhaps think differently-or even renforce what you already believe.

For conversation I'm curious as your thaughts on this....I have never met you CW but allways had much respect for you and your accomplishments as a bluetick breeder....

I'm curious on your thaughts and reasonings for feeling as bluetickers that we need to concentrate more on distinct lines?
My opinion on this differ from yours and I'm perfectly fine with that as I'm sure you are to as I don't believe anybody can or will ever be sucsefull unless they have an open mind..
I'm very curious to hear your thaughts and knowledge on this...thank you!

Thanks for the comments and questions Treeddoggmafia. You agreed with me on the first post you copied but state that you have different opinions than mine on the 2nd. Please let me know how your opinion differs from what I posted. Perhaps this will enable us to talk about this and I can then better explain why I feel we could all benefit from these type breeding methods.

Had a great time at Autumn Oaks. Saw a bunch of old friends and met some new ones. I appreciate the concerns expressed to me about the Bluetick Associations by many good Bluetick men. Special thanks to my longtime friend Tonya Raab and her UKC crew for another fantastic event.

Ron-good to meet you too. Wish you had brought her over, I would have been glad to take the picture. Jack's littermate brother is now at my house-gonna find out how much he likes it down south. Hope you and Ed get this cross made.

I agree 100% on this
am saying we as a breed can all benefit from dedication to building stronger more closely bred SELECTED individuals capable of the type of performance and reproductive likeness we profess to desire.

In my eyes line breeding you keep getting the same traits...possibly even slowly watering them down after time..

Now remember I am no breeder and haven't accomplished much these are no more than my thaughts and I am anything but closed minded and allways wanting to more and peoples reasonings so as to improve myself and future...

I feel like breeding dogs is kinda like making a cake...it takes several ingredients to make it if you leave one out it could ruin it...if you keep making the exact same cake and win baking contests with it in time others are gonna keep baking cakes changing up the recipe and will get better cakes..

I feel every line has its strengths and weaknesses and they all have very good traits to offer..

Why limit yourself to just one thing?
Please don't feel I'm downing your thaughts in any way cause that is not my intention..just trying to learn ..
Thanks for the reply!

As space permits-it has been proven that any desirable trait(s) can be strengthened or weakened by utilization of line breeding or in breeding. Through proper selection and hunting you will be able to determine if you are on the right track quicker-the offspring from matings will either have it or will show their faults. Your ability to recognize what constitutes an outstanding individual will directly effect what success you have and how far you and your line of dogs can go. Within each breed of Coon hound and each line within that breed their are a few individuals dedicated to producing TOP dogs. These TOP dogs in some cases are FREAKS OF NATURE and are blessed with so much natural talent seen only once in a lifetime. If these individuals are produced by outcrossing chances are it is hybrid vigor and these dogs, males or females, are far less likely to reproduce their likeness. If these rare individuals are from judicious linebreeding it is far more probable that their offspring will be blessed with these same desirable traits.

So bake that cake-practice, practice, practice. And if you find that missing ingredient find a way to incorporate in the cake mix without ruining the cake. Progress make be incremental but will be across the board and extremely rewarding.

Kenny Herman is trying to find out who the 1st grand night champion was of the Bluetick breed and on what date and year that took place. I am going back through old books and magazines to see if I can locate the exact time. Any help would be appreciated. We know or think UKC did not come up with the title until the early 1960's. Our history is not that old and should be easy to document.

Friday Night's coon hunt took place in a swamp where I first went to around 1966. Friday night I took two young females, one of which is Abbey (Rejet x Joleen) who is about 16 months old. She was loaded in the dog box with Baby (Jet II x Lady)-all line bred Jet 6 Again and Jet 6. The dog box was in the back of my 1966 Chevrolet 3 speed on the column 6 cylinder truck with body by Fisher and manufactured for economical transportation. Daddy had one of these 50 years ago and I had a learners permit and was coon hunting then in these same swamps. Did not know then that in 2016 I would be hunting in the same places with the same year model truck.

The conditions were perfect, the young bitches worked a good track and treed up a large Oak tree. Took me a little while of looking and shaking a muscadine vine until I found the coon. Sure felt good thinking back on prior hunts and how fortunate I am to be doing this.

Hope you are enjoying yours. Who knows if your lucky, you just may be looking back 50 years from now and enjoying your memories.

Happy Thanksgiving

Wishing all of you, your family,s and your Blueticks a Happy Thanksgiving. As a Nation we all have so much to be thankful for. To those of you on active duty in the country's military I hope Uncle Sam comes through for you with some wonderful chow today. We said the Marine Corps had the finest food in the world. It was what they did to it trying to cook it that messed it up. God Bless you one and all!
