I took Zeus and Joe out again last night for a short hunt. First drop, hot track. This was the first time Joe really opened much on track. He sounded good, very good, loud screaming bawl. Zeus and Joe smoked the track a little over 600 yds before coming treed. This was also the first time Joe has treed a coon with another dog. I just sat back at the truck were they stuck the track and listen to them tree. Joe has an awesome mouth IMO, it was a joy just to sit back and listen. Joe and Zeus did more bawling on the tree than chopping. But this is common for Zeus if he is out of shape and not hunted up. When in shape he is about a 70 bpm tree dog. Joe is just really starting and it's hard to say for sure if he will bawl or chop at the tree. Either way I'm sure it will sound good. It was hot so, I headed to the tree. I was able to drive within 150 yds of them. Joe meets me as I get to the tree, so I tie him back. I find the coon as soon as I get to the tree and look up. I let them tree a bit longer, they are getting bad hot so we lead out back to the truck. Next drop didn't go so well, Hunted a small section that is usually full of coon. This drop ended with no barks, catching them at the road. We headed for the house. Joe's coming along a little more most every time out. He is showing that intensity thats got me excited and looking forward to his next time out. I have been patient with Joe and it's starting to pay off. Below is a pic of Zeus treed on the 1st drop. Joe is tied back next to me at the tree.

ZEUS TREED, WITH COON SEEN.

Went to the North Fork Coonhunters in Casey, IL this last Saturday. They had a wiener roast along with several side dishes and desserts. I would like to thank Casey Coon Club for the good food and hospitality, I had a good time.. They also had a buddy hunt afterwards. I went along with Harold Johnson and the Dixie female. Also in the cast was Russ Vernon and his Dew female, John Bishop and Avery Plummer handling Sonic. It was a hour hunt. We hunted 30 min. called timeout caught the dogs and said heck with it and went back to the club. We never seen a coon in that 30 min. but heard a fairly good race. I believe everybody enjoyed each others company and had a good time even though our hunt didn't go that well. I had brought a pup along to take hunting after the Casey hunt. I met up with John Bishop and Sonic to hunt the rest of the night. I had my pup I call Joe. 1st drop Sonic gets in a couple hundred yards and just falls treed. I get to the tree about the same time Joe gets there and I tie him back. Joe thens decides to share in on the treeing some. Tree is hard to shine, but John finds a couple kitten coon setting up a few trees over. Everything is tied together. We walk them off this tree a little and cut them again. Sonic gets treed again and Joe puts in with him. We get there and the have treed a litter of week old kitten coon in a old stove that is out in the middle of this woods. We lead out and move on down the road. We cut loose again, Joe ends up coming back out to the road and I put him up. Sonic hits a track and moves it within 100 yds of us and trees. I can see the coon from the road before we head to him. We decide to call it a night. Below are a couple pics of Sonic treed that night.

Hunting some.

Well, my hunting has not been very consistent, I have lost several of my hunting spots this year to heavy logging and some spots completely wipe off the map. Most the larger timber tracks around here are leased up by out of state deer hunters that don't want anyone on the ground. I guess I need to get out and try to find some more hunting ground. I have run the hounds a little and have been out with friends to see their hounds go. Recently, I was able to hunt with Dave Mcginnis, Riley Floyd ,John Steber and Brandon Duncan. I also took John Bishop and Avery P. out for a short hunt. Also had a good hunt with Harold Johnson and Waylon. I need to hit it harder and probably will now that the weather has cooled off some. Zeus is out of shape and it shows, but he still manages to get a coon treed. Below are some pictures of my hunts.

LAST NIGHT, NICE COOL NIGHT

Went for a hunt last night. I took a young male hound out of Harpeth River Blue Jack x McGinnis' Blue Thunder. It was only the second time I have had a chance to hunt with the dog. I took him out by himself. Dropped him 4 times, treeing 3 singles and one of the drops picked him up 1/2 mile away crossing the road on a bad track in a bean field. Little dog did a good job for the most part, except for that bean field deal where he had trouble. May try and go again tonight. Below are a few pictures of last night's hunt.

Last night's hunt

I took Krypt out for a hunt last night. First drop, 10 yrds and less than 30 seconds later treed on a small Hackberry that goes up into a big den tree. I have treed here before. Next drop, Krypt gets struck in the beans shortly after cutting him loose. He does a good job warming it up, takes track across the road into another bean field and runs it in to a old barn. Krypt is treeing around the barn as I see 2 deer 30 yds from the barn just sitting there watching us. Next drop is in a spot that has been logged. Krypt, makes a short loop around and then heads out to the creek. He gets 400 yrds in and strikes moves the track on deeper another 100 and across the creek where he comes treed. It was so thick in there I had to get 10 yrds away from Krypt before I could see him. Anyway he has the coon and done a nice job. I head to the coon club and visit for a while. Riley Floyd comes in from the hunt and we decided to go for another turn loose or two. Riley was hunting a female of Ed Mauney's. Our first drop together dogs get stuck and treed shortly less than a 100 yrds in. We couldn't find the coon. Tree had those low hanging branches that went way out the fields edge. I'm guessing the coon gave them the slip on that one. We recast from there. Dogs get stuck across the road in a big cornfield track gets lined out and they tree 600 yrds in on the tip of a fence row out in the corn. we shined but couldn't find it. I thought Krypt did a nice job and was sure the coon was going to be there. but I couldn't find it. Still I was happy with his overall performance last night. I enjoyed getting to hunt with Riley again and our 1200 yrd round trip through the corn. Krypt has been laid up since last coon season. He is not yet 2 years old. Krypt is out of Harpeth River Blue Jack x McGinnis' Blue Thunder. Thinking I may have to buy the dog. Below are a couple pictures of last nights hunt.

Fall Round Up 2013

Had a good time. Thursday night I took Trey Melton from OK, Philip and Rick Whitley from KY and their friend from South Dakota. I took Hardware and Zeus, and the man from South Dakota hunted his hound. Then on Saturday night it was just me and Trey. We hunted a young hound I have called, Krypt and Zeus. Over those two nights we seen several coon. We treed a few and made a few trees we couldn't find the coon in. We had mostly easy walking and nice weather which made for a pleasurable hunt that weekend. It was also nice to meet Steve Perryman there at the Round Up. My biggest highlight of the Fall Round up weekend was when I heard my good friend John Bishop won 1st place registered Friday night with his nice young hound Bishop's Blue Super Sonic. I have a few pictures from my pleasure hunts during the Round Up weekend. Thanks Trey, Philip, Rick and the man from South Dakota for the enjoyable pleasure hunts Fall Round Up weekend. Maybe we can do it again next year.I will post a couple pics later.

11-19-13 hunt, Hardware breaks his back leg.

Took Hardware out for his first night of the season. He treed 2 coons. First tree was about 400 yards in with a coon treed with Krypt backing. Second tree was 1000 yards in through cutover treed with a coon. When we got to the tree I seen Hardware not using his left back leg. I looked closer and seen it was either broke or dislocated. I had to pull him off the tree. Then lead him back to the truck. I made an emergency trip to a vets office. Vet said it wasn't good. Hardware had broke his leg high above the knee. It will take surgery and a couple pins to repair his leg but won't know the full extent of it until tomorrow morning. All I can do is hope for the best for him and get him the best care I can at this point. I have tons of respect for this dog. Hardware has always been a dog with a lot of heart and drive and he showed it once again tonight treed with a coon with a badly broken leg and still had to be dragged off the tree.

Beautiful night here in Southeastern Illinois. Hunting by myself tonight. Young dog has been busy tonight. Treed 2 singles, with one of those being a bad bad boar coon , a hole, 2 dens and is hammer down treed again. I'm headed into him now.

Well he had the coon , but the son of a gun bailed out when I got to the tree. Young dog heard him hit the ground and is now in hot pursuit. Dang the luck, I was ready to go home.

The bail out ended 800 yards further in across the creek with a Bob tail sow coon treed. We are headed home.

Pictures to follow sometime tomorrow.

Tony, Thanks for asking about Hardware. Hardware seems to be doing fine. Physically, he uses his leg quite a bit, which I wish he wouldn't. I try to limit him on the use of his leg.Mentally, Hardware has never acted like he has a broken leg, which worries me.I truly believe if I dropped the tailgate and told him to load he would try to load. I still wish I knew how he did it. Vet said it would have taken a tremendous amount of force or pressure to break his leg where he did. He is now into his 2nd week of Recovery. Leg was pinned and wired. 4 more weeks then Xrays again to see if bone is healing. Thanks for the well wishes.

Chris

HARDWARE

Well we got some good news yesterday. I had to take Hardware to the Vet for Xrays of his broke leg. The Vet was kind of skeptical of with the healing of Hardware's break, because of were it was at and it being a straight break. But happy to say the Vet was very impressed with how well Hardware has healed. It has been 6 weeks since surgery. Vet expects a full recovery. However, I expect there to be some long term affects. Like Hardware not wanting to leave the house. He has adjusted and become quite comfortable as a "House dog". I believe my daughter also has plans at seeing him excel at being a "House Dog" He is a "Natural" By the way for those interested, Hardware is a 2014 Performance Sire. He has been known to tree a coon or two and has done a little winning.

I told Hardware that I had posted on this thread that he has really got this 'HOUSE DOG" thing down and is a 'NATURAL" at it. After telling Harware that, I explained to him I was going to take a picture of him to post it on here. As you will see in the picture of Hardware posted below, I believe he was embarressed and maybe a bit ashamed to be seen like this, "A HOUSE DOG"

HARDWARE THE "HOUSE DOG"
