Great to be able to get out of the house
Man, what a week. I started comming down with something Sat. night at the UKC Winter Classic. I don't know what it was, but it steadily got worse. I went to the Dr. Monday morning. He said it was not the flu, but he gave me a shot and pills for what ever it was. I never got out of the house until the following sunday other than feeding the dogs. Thanks to Chris and Clayton for keeping ole Tramp limbered up for me. I took ole Tramp out for a short run tonight. Turned him up an old slough down next to the river. He went in about 250 yrds and struck an old cold track worked it in another 200yrds and treed. Made my way in to him and he was treed up a large oak. I shined for a while, but never could make him look. I walked back to the 4-wheeler and loaded Tramp up and went around next to the river. Turned Tramp loose up river headed west. He went in about 800 yrds and struck an ole cold track. About an hour later and over 800 yrds deeper he treed in one of the worst cutover/briar patches that we have around here. I went around and got as close as I could to him, but he was still about 150 yrds out in the cutover. If I would have had good sense I would have just called him in, but I always did hate for one of my dogs to do their job and me not do mine, and I can tell you now that that frame of mind has got me into some bad places through the years. anyway, I got my rifle and sling blade off the 4-wheeler and started toward him, having to cut briars and bushes all the way in. I figured maybe when I got into the tree it would be a little cleaner around the tree. It wasnt it just got worse. I had to cut briars ffrom above my head just to look up into the tree. It was a pretty big tree at the bottom, but it was only about 20' tall. It was some kind of evergreen tree, but it was so wrapped up with vines and briars that I couldnt really tell what kind of tree it was. I could see a big hole at the bottom and I could see that if I was going to look from any other position I was going to have to do a lot more cutting, so I just petted ole Tramp on the head and told him we would get him another night when we had Clayton and Chris along, so we came back out to the 4-wheeler and called it a night.
